Estimated time for him to be out is four months. Even though this happened in the off season, this is still very, very bad for the Broncos as he will most likely miss most if not all of the preseason. It's just not wise for 325 pound linemen to be playing recreational basketball.

According to Footballoutsiders.com's injury database, no player in NFL history has missed less than six months with a torn patella tendon.

Curious, do players have clauses in their contracts pretty much stating they won't get paid if they get hurt doing this sort of thing?

I seen that too, very bad news in there. The glimmer of hope is that he only tore it 50% so the healing time should be much quicker than the guys in that article.

Clady's season is a wash.

Denver will take the field in 2010 without 2 of their 3 best football players -- Clady and Marshall. Only Dumervil is left. Actually their best player left for Chicago last year. Josh McDaniels is tearing apart the winning fabric that Shanahan took years to sew. Fantasy implications aside, this is a 7-9 football team at best. Maybe 5-11 if they drop a couple to KC or Oakland.

Change can be good sometimes. It's not like Shanahan was doing all that spectacular in recent history... 2005 was a great year, but other than that it was just a bunch of average teams that either missed the playoffs or were easy pushovers early on in the playoffs.
