I realize that this is the weekly Gumble critique corner, but the guy is is showing spats of dementia I believe.

It seems he gets several calls wrong. The missed yardline spots, contested reviewed calls and fumble recoveries to the wrong team. I mean "AL GORE" for cripes sake. Bring back Pat !!

Beg your pardon....

He called Jordan Babineaux (Bab-in-oh), Jordan Babinex! BABINEX!?!?!

I didn't even take French and knew it was Bab-in-oh!

It's these guys' jobs to know the players and tendencies but it's like they are totally clueless as to who some of these players are.

Then you have Collinsworth calling Kwame (Qua-mee) Brown, Kwam (Quom) Brown! If I were a player I'd slap these guys upside the head after the game!

It's truly painful to listen to those two clueless guys. And they have absolutely no chemistry between them.

The dream is still alive!

(Collinsworth: "I just assumed maybe you thought this drive was more important than I did.")

Al Gore ran the ball at least twice last night in relief of Frank Gore. It allowed Frank to have fresh legs in the 4th Q and wear down the Seattle D.

Gumble was an embarassment last night. Between Al Gore, the dream is alive, his constant yardage errors, not knowing Heitman was injured even though we could clearly see his #, calling the playoffs "the tournament", etc.

I said it last week, and I'll say it again. Back in the day before he went to the news he was a pretty damn good announcer.

This is just atrocious though.

Muscle atrophy of the football brain? I guess it IS possible!

Last night he kept calling quarters 'periods' and I read that he was talking about a '3 minute warning' last week.

It's easy to take shots at announcers for minor gaffs but Gumble is making it way too easy.

The dude is a media whore. He left the NFL back in the 70's or early 80's for 'bigger things'. Now that the NFL is bigger than ever, he is back whoring himself...and looking like a jackass at the same time.

He was good back then, but now he's just an idiot.

I'm in the minority here but I don't mind Gumbal.

I think Collingsworth does an O.K. job

Gumball is pretty easy to "tune" out, unlike Maguire or Theismann.

Al Michaels does that all the time.
The words "period" and "quarter" are basically the same in broadcast and print media. Some of the other complaints about BG in this thread are valid, but not this one.

Politics aside, you have to admit that Al Gore ran pretty well last night for a guy almost 60.

Let's not give to much credit to Al Gore, even if he is 60...he was playing against the Seahawks. :sadbanana:

Yeah, where did that come from? Please tell me this isn't some new trend...
I've heard this from a lot of people recently and I don't get it. I don't like it. It needs to end.
Parcells calls it a tournament as well and has been since he's been in Dallas.
He was using tht term long before he pulled into Texas.

This week: "Persnickety"
That is classic. How about "the rain is abating" What the ... There is no abating in football, no Persnickety in football and the WR isn't getting in a "warm and comfortable position" when they go to the turf. What a chump.I would love to see the NFL match him up with John Madden. They would have no idea what each other was talking about.

The NFL network really needs to improve on both TV and radio.

Jerry Rice is absolutely BRUTAL to ummm, yaknow, uhhhh, listen to, uhhhh on, ummm, yaknow, Sirius radio, uhhh yaknow?

if they put any of you guys in that booth, you'd suck even more nutz than gumble.leave him be
And if they put Gumble in my chair and had him coding MVS internals your bank account might mysteriously evaporate. I am not paid/trained as an announcer and he is not paid/trained as a software developer. Apples and oranges.

I was trying to remember what phrases / vocabulary he was using last night. That was not a good choice. Masterpiece Theatre this is not. Note to Gumbel - Yes the game was in Seattle, but Frasier Crane is NOT listening.

To be fair - there is an "abating" in football. Ever hear "unabated to the quarterback" when a defender jumps the snap? Still - in any other context - leave the "word of the day" calendar at home, Poindexter.Lastly - you may have missed this one - he said that the game would be over once "Alex Smith genuflects once" and runs out the clock. Um, what? Amen? Say a prayer that this guy is gone next season. I'll gladly sign up.

Last night he called the goal line the end line. I've hesitated to pile on thinking he would get better with a few games under his belt but I guess not.
