BTTF 2017 : Scoobus wins World Series (1 Viewer)

Where I stand with one month to go...

C - Mike Zunino (232/311/481, 339 WOBA in 347), Manny Pina (282/328/442, 334 in 318)

Should make a solid duo.  I have 198 PAs of Derek Norris if someone is absolutely desperate for C PAs.

1B - Miguel Cabrera (253/339/406, 322 in 469 PAs), Sam Travis (279/380/395, 351 in 50 PAs)

WHOOF on Miggy.  Only 14 HRs too.  Just a bad season for him.  That hurts.  May need to upgrade here.

2B - Starlin Castro (310/347/473, 354 12 HRs in 354 PAs), Carlos Asuaje (279/338/385, 320 in 230 PAs)

Little short on the PAs, but should be able to make those up with my upcoming SS depth.  Castro has been good and is a likely middle of the order hitter for me.

3B - Alex Bregman (284/359/486, 362. 16 HR/14 SB in 499 PAs), David Freese (258/370/371, 330 in 413 PAs)

Good combo here, although not much pop.  May need to use Freese at 1B quite a bit.

SS - Orlando Arcia (274/318/413, 310 in 454 PAs), Dansby Swanson (228/309/33, 274 in 431 PAs), Ahmed Rosario (247/271/452, 306 in 96 PAs)

Would help a lot if these 3 young guys closed well.  Swanson huge disappointment for 4 months, but has been better since being recalled.

OF - Andrew Benintendi (275/353/438, 337 18HR/15SB in 528 PAs), Manuel Margot (270/312/427, 319 12/12 in 418 PAs), Domingo Santana (271/367/471, 364 w/ 21/11 in 501 PAs)

Solid trio here.  Clint Frazier and Rajai Davis can provide some depth.

SP - Marcus Stroman (3.11 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 3.83 FIP, 139 K in 170.2 IP)

Justin Verlander (3.9/1.3/4.05, 167 in 166)

CC Sabathia (3.82/1.26/3.36, 90 in 115.1)

MIke Foltynewicz (4.84, 1.51, 4.37, 130 in 137.2)

Jon Gray (4.18/1.42/3.32, 73 in 75)

Need them to close healthy but I should end up with enough innings out of these 5.  Jesse Chavez (5.03/1.37/5.04, 103 in 125) to back them up

RP - Roberto Osuna (3.46/.86/1.48, 72 in 54.2)

Juan Nicasio (2.85/1.11/2.95, 60 in 60)

Zach McAllister (2.52/1.17/3.72, 57 in 53.2)

Brett Cecil (4.39/1.43/3.41, 53 in 61)

A.J. Schugel with 22 good IP so far, he should be usable.

Michael Feliz and Wily Peralta with innings ife absolutely necessary.  Will likely be looking to trade a SS for an RP.

Rhys Hoskins is having what may end up being an all-time WIS cookie season. Since most of my starting pitchers died, I'll likely be forced to trade him. To any of you lucky bastards with 7 or 8 healthy SP, please take note of this unique opportunity.

Is a 1.236 OPS considered good?

Related. I have probably the best closer Kenley Jansen and nobody who owns a SS glove if anyone sees a trade there.

As we close out the season, trade situation:

Needs:

- 3B (full or 1/2 season)

- Ace/#1 Pitcher and/or upgrade to starting staff (have decent to pretty good guys I could send in return)

- OF Upgrade

Potential Chips:

Can deal one of my 2B for comparable 3B or upgrade in OF (or P, is it's a rotation upgrade)

                              PAs    HR    AVG OBP SLG

2B       - Schoop    557     30   .306  .354  .542

2B       - Lowrie     534     12   .269   .346  .438

If I can get a half season SS, I'd trade Freddy Galvis, if not, could trade Semien

SS       - Galvis      551     11   .254  .304  .396

SS       - Semien    258     50   .258  .345  .387

If I get a 3B from one of the above, can trade 3B PAs for P or OF Upgrade.

3B      - Devers       134      8    .289  .358   .537

S/2/3  - Tomlinson 180      0    .265  .348   .310

CATCHERS:

Elias Diaz, AJ Ellis and Miguel Montero  150-230 PAs each

My team is going to be so bad it doesn't even make sense to trade.  I have 61 quality starts which I thought would be dead last, but actually seven teams have less.

The only excess I'm gonna have is about 150-175 plate appearances at SS (Dixon Machado).  I have 64 starts with guys with ERAs above 5.92, :lmao:

I could send you Miguel Sano and an OF for some starting pitching.

From WIS:

As most of you know, WhatIfSports recently changed ownership. As part of that transition, we'll be transferring the games to a new environment. Due to the seriously outdated technology that the SimLeague Baseball Live is built in, it won't survive that transfer. The plan is to eventually rebuild it in new technology and re-introduce it to the SimLeague Baseball game.

What this means is that at some point in the next few months, Live will go offline. I'm not sure yet when that will happen. In preparation, I've disabled Live-related settings for theme leagues. Until the actual shutdown, leagues are free to continue using it.

@Koya is gonna be pissed

or maybe he found some cash and bought it himself
Since I was drafted into the BTTF Basketball, I've been all over this news.  First I've seen the snippet on Live (thanks @jfranco )  which is awesome. Sounds like they at least plan on bringing it back... seems like such low hanging fruit in terms of providing a different user experience, so lets hope they follow through.

c - Wolters, Knapp, Centeno, and a couple of slugs should get me lackluster stats and average defense

                  OBP/HR/SB

1b - Wil Myers 332/24/17

2B Altuve  415/21/31

3B Rendon   401/23/7

SS Simmons  339/14/19

OF1 Blackmon 405/33/13

OF2 AJ Pollock 324/18/9

OF3 Kh Davis 323/37/4

BU OF/IF MArwyn 366/21/7

Util - Teoscar hernandez and Tyler White might get a few callup ABs to ude lightly

              INN/ERA/WHIP/K

SPSantana .184/335/114

ANnibal Sancheez, Brad Peacock,/ Lance McCullers/ Amir Garrett /Graveman / Musgrove / Devinski

Maybe can cobble these together and avg. 6.2 innings each and hand off to relievers

RP

Giles/ Herraera/Rosenthal/

Desperate arms to complete the season

Reynaldo Lopez/David Paulino/Vance Worley

All the offensive players except Pollock have put in a full season with lots of offense. Marwyn can back them all up (except catcher. which will sucK)

Speed power and OBP should keep me in games, the pitching staff should struggle to keep me there

My sucky team looks like this right now...

Catcher: Evan Gattis 276 PA 269/319/470, Cameron Rupp 305 PA 221/305/432

Should be covered here. Various Gattis injuries mean I won't have any surplus.

First base: Brandon Belt 451 PA 241/355/469, C.J. Cron 284 PA 255/311/456, Rhys Hoskins 110 PA 319/436/758

Belt and Cron will make a passable platoon. Hoskins is probably my only good trade chip.

Second base: Neil Walker 373 PA 269/352/446, TJ Rivera 231 PA 290/330/430

Rivera hopefully will get a passable 2B rating because my other options here are not good.

Third base: Nolan Arenado 583 PA 305/363/579

One of the few picks I nailed, even if it was an easy one. Rivera can cover any PA shortage.

Shortstop: Trevor Story 459 PA 226/303/425, Erick Aybar 305 PA 231/298/359, Danny Espinosa 282 PA 166/233/277

Admitted Story was a gamble when I took him, and I lost on it. Aybar will pass as a UTIF. Espinosa hopefully won't make my roster.

Outfield: Curtis Granderson 460 PA 212/324/460, Jackie Bradley 425 PA 259/338/424, Robbie Grossman 383 PA 244/366/372, Albert Almora 285 PA 286/332/397, Austin Jackson 251 PA 311/375/495, Hyun Soo Kim 221 PA 234/305/294, Derek Fisher 121 PA 219/307/371.

An exciting collection of mediocre outfielders that I will have to creatively rotate somehow. I might be able to trade from here but I'm not optimistic.

Starting pitcher:

Aaron Nola 142.2 IP, 1.22 WHIP,  0.95 HR/9

Kenta Maeda 120.1 IP, 1.13 WHIP, 1.42 HR/9

Jharel Cotton 114 IP, 1.46 WHIP, 1.89 HR/9

Mike Clevinger 100.1 IP, 1.27 WHIP, 1.17 HR/9

Edinson Volquez 92.1 IP, 1.419 WHIP, 0.78 HR/9

Joe Ross 73.2 IP, 1.466 WHIP, 1.95 HR/9

Nate Karns 45.1 IP, 1.191 WHIP, 1.79 HR/9

That's 688.2 IP so far, and only the top 4 are still pitching. Pretty sure I'll have to trade for at least one full-time SP to have a staff and ideally 2 to move some of the above crap to the bullpen.

Relief pitcher (usable):

Mike Minor 66 IP, 1.015 WHIP, 0.68 HR/9

Bryan Shaw 64.2 IP, 1.253 WHIP, 0.56 HR/9

AJ Ramos 53 IP, 1.321 WHIP, 1.02 HR/9

Junichi Tazawa 43 IP, 1.372 WHIP, 1.47 HR/9

Cam Bedrosian 36 IP, 1.278 WHIP, 0.50 HR/9

Buddy Boshers 32.1 IP, 1.299 WHIP, 1.67 HR/9

Relief pitcher (garbage): Justin Nicolino 36.1 IP, Tony Sipp 32 IP, Jake Petricka 25.2 IP.

That's 295 IP I can use and another 94 I can throw out there if I just give up. If I don't shift some SP here I may need to make a trade.

My offense may be mediocre, but at least my pitching staff is terrible. I'm hoping that with a few trades and some miraculous luck, I can turn this into a .500 outfit.

CATCHER Sandy Leon 263 PA  228/290/354 Christian Vazquez 284 PA 287/331/400 Chris Herrmann 227 PA 171/269/271

Will be able to trade one of these guys. All should have good defensive rating. Herrmann will get a rating in the OF as well. Not terribly unhappy with these guys, but meh.

FIRST BASE  Ian Desmond 294 PA 279/325/375 Kennys Vargas 231 PA 245/303/420

Ugh. Should get enough PA out of these two, but that is some terrible production from 1B for sure.

SECOND BASE  DJ LeMahieu 583 PA 317/381/413

Hey! He seems pretty good.

THIRD BASE Todd Frazier 500 PA 209/334/413

Umm.

SHORTSTOP Tim Anderson 510 PA 247/268/398

Umm.

OUTFIELD Michael Brantley 372 PA 299/358/445, Kevin Pillar 558 PA 255/299/405, Yasiel Puig 493 PA 256/345/476, Jarrod Dyson 390 PA 251/324/350, Mitch Haniger 308 PA 258/345/443

Too many injuries here, which is unfortunate cause they are a decent bunch. Probably have enough PA from 4 of the, so could trade Haniger or Dyson. maybe.

UTIL Daniel Descalso 338 PA 243/340/408 1B/2B/3B/OF

Hopefully Anderson gets enough PA that Descalso covering the rest of the infield is sufficient.

SP1 Clayton Kershaw 147 IP, 1.95 ERA 0.1862 WHIP

SP2 Gerrit Cole 173 IP, 4.11 ERA, 1.243 WHIP

SP3 Taijuan Walker 132 IP, 3.42 ERA, 1.291 WHIP

SP4 Rick Porcello 181 IP, 4.67 ERA, 1.401 WHIP

SP5 Jeremy Hellickson 149 IP, 5.26 ERA, 1.275 WHIP

SP6 Doug Fister 67 IP, 4.18 ERA, 1.305 WHIP

SP7 Tyler Glasnow + Cesar Valdez, 85 IP of terrible stats

Kershaw getting hurt was a big time bummer. Fister pitching decently and often enough should give me enough starts from these 6 though. Have Glasnow and Valdez and their combined 15 starts and 85 IP for trade to a desperate team.

RP Addison Reed 64 IP, 3.25 ERA, 1.068 WHIP

RP Dan Otero 55 IP, 2.80 ERA, 1.226 WHIP

RP Fernando Abad 40 IP, 2.72 ERA, 1.160 WHIP

RP Santiago Casilla 51 IP, 4.21 ERA, 1.422 WHIP

RP Daniel Coulombe 47 IP, 3.80 ERA, 1.246 WHIP

RP Jorge DeLaRosa 46 IP, 4.47 ERA 1.338 WHIP

RP Ryan Pressly 52 IP, 4.85 ERA, 1.058 WHIP

RP Wade Leblanc 65 IP, 4.68 ERA, 1.194 WHIP

Will look to trade one or two of these guys. Solid but unspectacular bunch here

Just about to cross the 1,300 eligible IP plateau (excluding the 80 or so IP that won't likely hit the 25 IP minimum).

Hopefully, especially with new ownership (and the expected infusion of SOME resources, which has to be more than FOX Sports provided WIS) we get the ratings just after the season, as has usually been the case.

Main Chips to trade for 3B or major OF upgrade - or upgrade to front half of rotation

2B - Lowrie or Schoop

SS - Semien's 60% season or Galvis' full season

C - Will have 3 catchers to deal with 150-250 PAs each.

Just posting my roster to get it out there ... will add commentary later:

Overall, not an awful squad.  My offence is much better than my pitching and I am hopeful it is better than most teams.  I do have 4 SP, sadly they have 1.2-1.3-1.4-1.5 WHIPS.  I need 1 more SP to add innings (maybe NV trade?).  My RP are good, not a lefty in the bunchm, but the SIM doesn't care about LOOGYS.  I might be able to cobble a SP 5 between Santiago, Asher, Romano and Gossett by the time this is over using AAA.  MY RP is goodish.  Vincent, Strop, Norris, Neshek and Brach are a solid 5 with nice peripherals.
thinking my lineup may be;

Melky

Sal Perez

I have innings, many are awful, some decent relievers, good offence and nice bench.

LAST DAY!

Have about 8 potential trade chips from 200 catching PAs to half or full season SS up to Schoop, looking for 3B or OF upgrade - and always entertain pitching offers.

Once stats are final ill post.

  • Pos Player PA HR AVG OBP SLG FLD%
    2B Schoop, Jonatha 675 32 0.293 0.338 0.503 0.981
    SS Galvis, Freddy 663 12 0.255 0.309 0.382 0.989
    C Diaz, Elias 200 1 0.223 0.265 0.314 0.99
    C Ellis, A.J. 163 6 0.21 0.298 0.371 1
    C Montero, Miguel 213 6 0.216 0.31 0.346 0.986

    3B Devers, Rafael 240 10 0.284 0.338 0.482 0.906
    SS Semien, Marcus 386 10 0.249 0.325 0.398 0.976
    2B Tomlinson, Kelb 222 1 0.258 0.332 0.314 0.965
    OF Herrera, Odubel 563 14 0.281 0.325 0.452 0.994

Those are my chips... looking to deal Schoop for middle of the order 3B or stud OF. Can package galvis or one of the catchers with someone below the line for upgrade.

Could also deal Semien for half season 3B.

OK, season's done:

BATTING

CATCHER
Tyler Flowers  370 PA  281/378/445  12 HR
Stephen Vogt  303 PA  233/285/423  12 HR

Satisfied at catcher. I expected Vogt to be the better hitter, but this outcome works just fine.

1ST BASE
Mitch Moreland  576 PA  246/326/443  22 HR
Adrian Gonzalez  252 PA  242/287/355  3 HR

Moreland, even with the HRs, is just about at replacement level for a 1B. Wasn't expecting Gonzalez to be huge, but this season for him was a disappointment. Fortunately, I can slide Trey Mancini over here and get much better offense.

2ND BASE
Yolmer Sanchez (also 3B)  534 PA  267/319/413  12 HR
Brandon Drury  480 PA  267/317/447  13 HR

Both guys are better-than-average hitters at 2B, and should be at least B+ fielders. Very similar to each other, so I could move either one to someone needing a lot of 2B  at-bats.

THIRD BASE
Yangervis Solarte (also 2B & SS)  512 PA  255/314/416  18 HR

Having played 20+ games at all three positions, Solarte will have legit WIS defensive ratings. Decent pop. Needs ~150 PAs from someone else to ensure coverage for my squad at 3B. If I make no moves, that someone will be Yolmer Sanchez.

SHORTSTOP
Trea Turner  447 PA  284/338/451  11 HR  45 SB
Chad Pinder (also 2B & OF)  309 PA  238/292/457  15 HR

Guess I was expecting too much from Turner. His stats are fine, but about 10% than I thought I'd be getting. His SBs are pretty insane, though. Turner is probably a A-/B+ glove, too. Pinder cooled off considerably after a hot start, but proved he could slug.

OUTFIELD
Lorenzo Cain  645 PA  300/363/440  15 HR  26 SB
Nelson Cruz  645 PA  288/375/549  39 HR
Trey Mancini (also 1B)  586 PA  293/338/488  24 HR
Scott Schebler  531 PA  233/307/484  30 HR
Adam Frazier (also 2B)  454 PA  276/344/399  6 HR  9 SB
Stephen Piscotty  401 PA  235/342/367  9 HR
Mark Canha  187 PA  208/262/382  5 HR

Cain and Cruz were money all season ... couldn't have asked for much more. Mancini was excellent in his rookie season, as well. Schebler had a sizzling first half (22 HRs at ASB), but cooled off by August. Frazier will be a very nice bench bat at worst -- he can start for someone in WIS. Piscotty is usable due to his walks, but he was a letdown. Canha won't make the roster.

PITCHING

STARTERS
Chris Sale  214 IP  2.90 ERA  0.970 WHIP
Gio Gonzalez  201 IP  2.96 ERA  1.179 WHIP
Chase Anderson  141 IP  2.74 ERA  1.090 WHIP
Sean Manaea  158 IP  4.37 ERA  1.399 WHIP
Tim Adleman  122 IP  5.52 ERA  1.431 WHIP
Yovani Gallardo  130 IP  5.72 ERA  1.515 WHIP
Tom Koehler  72 IP  6.69 ERA  1.624 WHIP
Chris Tillman  93 IP  7.84 ERA  1.892 WHIP

Sale and Gonzalez slipped a bit down the stretch, but will still be superb 1-2 pitchers in WIS. Anderson could've been the clear #2 but for a stint on the DL. Manaea is just barely good enough to slide in at #4. After that, it's pretty ugly. Adleman and Gallardo not only have weak stats, but both guys have a lot of relief appearances that eat into their IP/G -- I'll probably end up tandem-starting them 15-20 times unless a move for a #4-type starter is forthcoming. Koehler and Tillman won't make the team: 2016 James Shields says "Yeesh".

RELIEVERS
Ryan Madson  59 IP  1.83 ERA  0.797 WHIP
Ross Stripling  74 IP  3.75 ERA  1.184 WHIP
Luis Avilan  46 IP  2.93 ERA  1.391 WHIP
Drew Storen  54 IP  4.45 ERA  1.463 WHIP
Tyler Clippard  60 IP  4.77 ERA  1.293 WHIP
Zach Britton  37 IP  2.89 ERA  1.527 WHIP
Bryan Johnson  27 IP  4.33 ERA  1.481 WHIP
Hoby Milner  31 IP  2.07 ERA  1.468 WHIP
Sammy Solis  26 IP  5.88 ERA  1.346 WHIP
Joely Rodriguez  27 IP  6.33 ERA  1.926 WHIP

After Madson and Stripling, my relievers comprise a pool of mediocrity. Guys like Avilan, Britton, and Milner have nice ERAs with iffy WHIPs ... not sure how that plays out in WIS, but I'm not expecting a lot. Anyway, if anyone wants anybody off of my squad ... dangle decent relief pitching in front of me and let's see what we can work out.

...

From what I'm seeing above, my main trade pieces are at 2B and OF. I'd be hard-pressed to move Cain or Cruz, but I'll review any offer. Mancini would be more expendable, but I don't have another strong 1B ... so Mancini goes from a luxury to a need. The other offensive players on my team are easier to shake loose.

I don't have enough quality pitchers to offer one of them up without getting something back. Anything multi-player-type deal involving Sale, Gonzalez, or Anderson would have to include starting IPs coming back at not too much of a drop in quality.

Has there always been a Champions League in WIS?
Yes.

The downside for us is that it's grouped by salary cap, and we aren't building teams that are efficient relative to salary.

When we did a salary cap sim way back when, I believe Dr. Detroit actually won the champions league.

Different league... apparently if you make 5 or more WS, you are eligible for a full season of only folks who have done the same. Don't think I've noticed it until now.

And yes, DD did win it all once. Bringing true glory to our dark part of the world.

FWIW, I wouldn't expect player rankings to come out for a while. Apparently in a week or so there is a player update, but no commitment that '17 players will be uploaded.

Whoa, pretty cool.

I think I've only been to 2 or 3 WS  :kicksrock:
LOSER.

or wait, maybe that makes me the loser.  In the old sims I went to 5 (won 4) in 20 or so seasons, lucky but not lucky in BTTF, two years, twice the bridesmaid.  Gonna be tough to get there with this team unless I can trade Schoop for both an ace AND a mid order bat. :coffee:

when/if they bring back live and update engine, we should do another theme draft for ol' timey sake now that WIS is under new ownership

Rhys Hoskins finished with a final line of 259/396/618 in 212 PA. Will be eligible at 1B or OF. Could be the final piece for a championship team if you can spare some SP innings.

:goodposting:

It's been long enough that I don't feel like we've been beating it to death anymore. Bring back the glory days!

Took a look at my team for the first time.  What was I thinking James Loney and Brian Matusz were going to do this year?

I have no idea what's going to constitute a usable SP this season.

Ok, need to focus on some trades here.   My chips are in the post a few above this, but summary:

Have MI from decent to excellent:

2B Schoop - would need legit 3/4 hitter at 3B or elite OF

SS Freddy Galvis full season

SS Marcus Semien decent half season +

UT Kelby Tomlinson

C Dias, Eillis and Montero all available and decent enough 150-225 PA guys

SEEKING: Top level bat at 3B or elite OF bat. Can send back CF Odubel Herrera or 3B Devers in a deal. Open to good starting pitching and can send IP in return, or very good relief.
