BTTF 2017 : Scoobus wins World Series (3 Viewers)

C - Mike Zunino (232/311/481, 339 WOBA in 347), Manny Pina (282/328/442, 334 in 318)

Should make a solid duo.  I have 198 PAs of Derek Norris if someone is absolutely desperate for C PAs.

1B - Miguel Cabrera (253/339/406, 322 in 469 PAs), Sam Travis (279/380/395, 351 in 50 PAs)

WHOOF on Miggy.  Only 14 HRs too.  Just a bad season for him.  That hurts.  May need to upgrade here.

2B - Starlin Castro (310/347/473, 354 12 HRs in 354 PAs), Carlos Asuaje (279/338/385, 320 in 230 PAs)

Little short on the PAs, but should be able to make those up with my upcoming SS depth.  Castro has been good and is a likely middle of the order hitter for me.

3B - Alex Bregman (284/359/486, 362. 16 HR/14 SB in 499 PAs), David Freese (258/370/371, 330 in 413 PAs)

Good combo here, although not much pop.  May need to use Freese at 1B quite a bit.

SS - Orlando Arcia (274/318/413, 310 in 454 PAs), Dansby Swanson (228/309/33, 274 in 431 PAs), Ahmed Rosario (247/271/452, 306 in 96 PAs)

Would help a lot if these 3 young guys closed well.  Swanson huge disappointment for 4 months, but has been better since being recalled.

OF - Andrew Benintendi (275/353/438, 337 18HR/15SB in 528 PAs), Manuel Margot (270/312/427, 319 12/12 in 418 PAs), Domingo Santana (271/367/471, 364 w/ 21/11 in 501 PAs)

Solid trio here.  Clint Frazier and Rajai Davis can provide some depth.

My team is going to be so bad it doesn't even make sense to trade.  I have 61 quality starts which I thought would be dead last, but actually seven teams have less. 

The only excess I'm gonna have is about 150-175 plate appearances at SS (Dixon Machado).  I have 64 starts with guys with ERAs above 5.92, :lmao:

From WIS:

As most of you know, WhatIfSports recently changed ownership. As part of that transition, we'll be transferring the games to a new environment. Due to the seriously outdated technology that the SimLeague Baseball Live is built in, it won't survive that transfer. The plan is to eventually rebuild it in new technology and re-introduce it to the SimLeague Baseball game.

What this means is that at some point in the next few months, Live will go offline. I'm not sure yet when that will happen. In preparation, I've disabled Live-related settings for theme leagues. Until the actual shutdown, leagues are free to continue using it.

Since I was drafted into the BTTF Basketball, I've been all over this news.  First I've seen the snippet on Live (thanks @jfranco )  which is awesome. Sounds like they at least plan on bringing it back... seems like such low hanging fruit in terms of providing a different user experience, so lets hope they follow through.

Should be covered here. Various Gattis injuries mean I won't have any surplus.

Belt and Cron will make a passable platoon. Hoskins is probably my only good trade chip.

Hopefully, especially with new ownership (and the expected infusion of SOME resources, which has to be more than FOX Sports provided WIS) we get the ratings just after the season, as has usually been the case.

Overall, not an awful squad.  My offence is much better than my pitching and I am hopeful it is better than most teams.  I do have 4 SP, sadly they have 1.2-1.3-1.4-1.5 WHIPS.  I need 1 more SP to add innings (maybe NV trade?).  My RP are good, not a lefty in the bunchm, but the SIM doesn't care about LOOGYS.  I might be able to cobble a SP 5 between Santiago, Asher, Romano and Gossett by the time this is over using AAA.  MY RP is goodish.  Vincent, Strop, Norris, Neshek and Brach are a solid 5 with nice peripherals.

Moreland, even with the HRs, is just about at replacement level for a 1B. Wasn't expecting Gonzalez to be huge, but this season for him was a disappointment. Fortunately, I can slide Trey Mancini over here and get much better offense.

Both guys are better-than-average hitters at 2B, and should be at least B+ fielders. Very similar to each other, so I could move either one to someone needing a lot of 2B  at-bats.

Having played 20+ games at all three positions, Solarte will have legit WIS defensive ratings. Decent pop. Needs ~150 PAs from someone else to ensure coverage for my squad at 3B. If I make no moves, that someone will be Yolmer Sanchez.

Guess I was expecting too much from Turner. His stats are fine, but about 10% than I thought I'd be getting. His SBs are pretty insane, though. Turner is probably a A-/B+ glove, too. Pinder cooled off considerably after a hot start, but proved he could slug.

Cain and Cruz were money all season ... couldn't have asked for much more. Mancini was excellent in his rookie season, as well. Schebler had a sizzling first half (22 HRs at ASB), but cooled off by August. Frazier will be a very nice bench bat at worst -- he can start for someone in WIS. Piscotty is usable due to his walks, but he was a letdown. Canha won't make the roster.

Sale and Gonzalez slipped a bit down the stretch, but will still be superb 1-2 pitchers in WIS. Anderson could've been the clear #2 but for a stint on the DL. Manaea is just barely good enough to slide in at #4. After that, it's pretty ugly. Adleman and Gallardo not only have weak stats, but both guys have a lot of relief appearances that eat into their IP/G -- I'll probably end up tandem-starting them 15-20 times unless a move for a #4-type starter is forthcoming. Koehler and Tillman won't make the team: 2016 James Shields says "Yeesh".

After Madson and Stripling, my relievers comprise a pool of mediocrity. Guys like Avilan, Britton, and Milner have nice ERAs with iffy WHIPs ... not sure how that plays out in WIS, but I'm not expecting a lot. Anyway, if anyone wants anybody off of my squad ... dangle decent relief pitching in front of me and let's see what we can work out.

From what I'm seeing above, my main trade pieces are at 2B and OF. I'd be hard-pressed to move Cain or Cruz, but I'll review any offer. Mancini would be more expendable, but I don't have another strong 1B ... so Mancini goes from a luxury to a need. The other offensive players on my team are easier to shake loose.

I don't have enough quality pitchers to offer one of them up without getting something back. Anything multi-player-type deal involving Sale, Gonzalez, or Anderson would have to include starting IPs coming back at not too much of a drop in quality.

Yes.

The downside for us is that it's grouped by salary cap, and we aren't building teams that are efficient relative to salary.

When we did a salary cap sim way back when, I believe Dr. Detroit actually won the champions league.

Different league... apparently if you make 5 or more WS, you are eligible for a full season of only folks who have done the same. Don't think I've noticed it until now.

 
And yes, DD did win it all once. Bringing true glory to our dark part of the world.
 

FWIW, I wouldn't expect player rankings to come out for a while. Apparently in a week or so there is a player update, but no commitment that '17 players will be uploaded.

or wait, maybe that makes me the loser.  In the old sims I went to 5 (won 4) in 20 or so seasons, lucky but not lucky in BTTF, two years, twice the bridesmaid.  Gonna be tough to get there with this team unless I can trade Schoop for both an ace AND a mid order bat. :coffee:  

when/if they bring back live and update engine, we should do another theme draft for ol' timey sake now that WIS is under new ownership

 
Rhys Hoskins finished with a final line of 259/396/618 in 212 PA. Will be eligible at 1B or OF. Could be the final piece for a championship team if you can spare some SP innings.

Took a look at my team for the first time.  What was I thinking James Loney and Brian Matusz were going to do this year?

I have no idea what's going to constitute a usable SP this season.

Ok, need to focus on some trades here.   My chips are in the post a few above this, but summary:

Have MI from decent to excellent:

2B Schoop - would need legit 3/4 hitter at 3B or elite OF

SS Freddy Galvis full season

SS Marcus Semien decent half season +

UT Kelby Tomlinson 

C Dias, Eillis and Montero all available and decent enough 150-225 PA guys

SEEKING: Top level bat at 3B or elite OF bat. Can send back CF Odubel Herrera or 3B Devers in a deal. Open to good starting pitching and can send IP in return, or very good relief.
