BTTF 2017 : Scoobus wins World Series (1 Viewer)

Draft all position players in the first 8 rounds: Pretty much dead last in every offensive category

Scrap the bottom of the starting pitching barrel for 8 rounds after that: 4 starters with ERAs under 3.00 with 10 QS out of 18 starts.

Hey I just noticed that I have the wrong Luis Perdomo on my team.  The guy I am supposed to have pitches for the Padres, the guy on my team is some guy who used to be in the Twins organization.  @Doug B

I wouldn't complain but I'll probably need those ####ty innings.

Fixed.

What are the odds of that name popping up twice? Especially being one of them hasn't been in the majors for 5 years?

And hey ... the new Luis Perdomo has decent stats so far. Good looking out for your squad

Since both Matz and Richards are dead, I have three starters plus Perdomo.  Ouch.

Thanks for the fix!

I have seven starters and shockingly none of them have gotten hurt.

:knocks on wood:

I didn't realize how thin my hitting was until I looked at my roster on Fantrax. I am going to need to make trades or I am in trouble.

I'm doing much better than I would have thought. As long as I stay injury-free, I have a shot. I have ZERO depth unless the minors open the floodgates.

My offense is last in runs, RBI, SB, runs created and fielding percentage.

Luckily my pitching is second last in ERA, FIP, DICE and OPS against.

Fantrax "standings" have me in last by 38 points :(

I still don't completely hate my team though.

i am in good shape.  4 guys over 30 innings and maybe a sanchez gets a finger transplant.  need kendry's to qualify at 1st.  decent pen.

I'm going to have an interesting team.  26 of my 27 position players have plate appearances, with 11 full-time starters and 11 more high use reserves.  12 of my 13 relievers have innings already, ten of which are in pretty regular roles in their team pen.  I have four starters on the DL, 3 more in the minors, and one in the bullpen leaving me with exactly two current starters.

I am leading our league in plate appearances by almost 500.  I'm eighth in innings pitched.  22nd in IP/G, and 16th in Quality starts which is going to go down in a hurry.

Pitching coming back to Earth, but hitters starting to work towards mediocrity.

Only stat I'm crushing (Innings pitched per game) is one that doesn't help much in WIS, if I remember right.

@Doug B

Hey my team in fantrax is the actual Dr Detroit team, not the Greco team which I have editing rights to at the moment.  Can you assign my team to me please?  Thanks!

So ... nobody 'owns' the Dr Detroit team at the moment? Or ... no one can edit the Dr Detroit team? But you can currently edit the Greco team?

I am not sure how to do what you are asking, but I am looking.

Good news: I lead the league in PAs by almost 1,000 and have 11 relievers with 20+ innings already.

Bad news:  I only have two starters currently in rotations, and their WHIPs are 1.41 and 1.84.

I have the least innings pitched, a 4.65 FIP, and all the good relievers I drafted (Oh, Diaz, Watson, and Boxberger) either suck or are dead.  My hitting is a little better than the standings reflect (.802 OPS and 14 RC/27), and I'll have the PAs needed, but the pitching looks to be awful unless Matz and Richards can contribute going forward.  I think I would consider Luis Perdomo (Not the Twins one) my #2 starter at the moment.  :bag:

Yeah, this is going to be a very interesting season to play out, given the awfulness of the starting pitchers. Unless you're Arsenal, who has already got 70 QS from his starters.

My team is 3rd in IP and 2nd in DICE, but we are 4th worst in IP/G.

It's both fascinating and frustrating to watch a club slowly unravel on FanTrax. I know baseball is a streaky sport ... just don't expect a bunch of negative streaks to coincide all at once.

And I can fill out a decent batting order just using my guys on IR :kicksrock:

Anyone know this?

From FanTrax's point of view ... what is the difference between a Green Flag (Minor Leagues) and a Gray Flag (Inactive)? Is that a reflection of some quirk in MLB's team/player rights assignment scheme? Like are the gray-flag guys free agents, or 'restricted' free agents, or something else?

hey @Frostillicus

nice pick!

31.3 [723] Frosty OF STL Tommy Pham

Guy is on a 34 HR, 36 SB, 106 RBI, 128 R pace!
I have Pham in NEWZA.

My offense has come around nicely - damn Schoop!

Pitching? My rotation starts with three #3 pitchers and very thin on IP. Do have the workings of a solid pen though.

gonna have to move one of my MIs probably as I have depth at 2nd. Could move Edwin Encarnacion as well.

gray means they are not affiliated I believe............

so, I have 4 guys with over 100 innings pitched, sadly 1 is matt moore.  1 is Jason hammel, though he is trying to get to the 1.3 whip range.  aaron sanchez decided to die this year, but I almost had 5 actual starters.

Gray flag guys aren't with an MLB or MiLB team at all (like a retired Billy Wagner or Jason Kendall, for instance, or Derek Norris currently after he was cut by the Rays at the end of June).

ETA:  Looks like there may some ambiguity with this.  Tyler Naquin is showing with a gray flag, but he was just sent down, not released.

1.5 months to go.  Let's see!

C:  J. Castro (318 PAs), Y. Molina (407), K. Smith (194), and K. Suzuki (200).  Looks like I'll have both a starter and a back-up to trade.  All hit kinda the same like, not totally ####ty but kind of ####ty.

1B:  J. Mauer (413).  Will end up a back-up for me, since I'm going to end up playing Sano over here.  Could be a good trade to someone who needs 1B ABs.

2B:  J. Harrison (446), R. Goins (302).  Good to go.

3B:  M. Sano (450), M. Machado (491), M. Davidson (324).  Sano will mostly play first, but with E. Escobar around with plenty of PAs Davidson is totally expendable.  I think he's basically played DH all year so might not have 3B eligibility, but he does have 22 HRs and a .780 OPS, so even if I keep him he's a good bench bat.

SS:  A. Diaz (288), E. Escboar (304).  Hopefully Diaz can get back up and get a few more PAs, but I think I'll be ok here.  Even if I'm short I should have enough total PAs to pick up some cheap SS at bats - assuming I don't need all that excess for pitcher trades.

OF:  N. Markakis (480), S. Souza (462), N. Mazara (435), E. Rosario (394), T. Pham (363), A. Altherr (336), G. Hernandez (266), L. Garcia (257), E. Carrera (248).  Tons of PAs.  This is where I have to make good trades.

SP:  J. Quintana (134ip/1.26 WHIP), K. Gibson (105ip/1.70 WHIP), C. Hamels (92ip/1.04 WHIP). J. Ramiriez (138ip/1.33 WHIP).  This is, um, not good.  The guy with the most innings wasn't even assured a roster spot in spring training.  OOF.

RP: R. Tepera (59ip/1.07 WHIP), A. Miller (54ip/0.76 WHIP), C. Knebel (52ip/1.20 WHIP), H. Hembree (50ip/1.39 WHIP), P. Baez (48ip/1.15 WHIP), C Whitley (47ip;1.00 WHIP), R. Buchter (45ip/1.21 WHIP), T. Rogers (44ip/1.24 WHIP), R. Bleier (43ip/1.22 WHIP).  That is quite a solid bullpen.  If I try to keep just 6 relievers, that gives me three guys between great and good to trade.

So basically if I can trade my expendable catchers, outfielders, and relievers to somehow come up with a decent rotation I'm going to destroy you all.

What it seems to be is that when a player is "designated for assignment" (= a form of waivers?), their flag goes gray for a few days. Then, when the same player gets sent to AAA, their flag goes green.

I'd buy that, but Naquin was never DFAed.  Another team would have for sure claimed him if that was the case.

After just an awful first third of the season, looks like I might have at least a shot at a decent season.

Offense looking pretty solid so far. Will need some PA's at 3B, but could play a 2B out of position. Likely trade opportunity there though as I have 2B depth, and may have some CA PAs to trade.

Pitching, my usual strength, is weak on innings (may have enough to get by, but no guarantee even on that), and no top flight starter.

If the SIM continues to skew to offense, perhaps I can make a few minor-mid trades and be in decent position... not sure I want to give up the requisite value for a #1 pitcher though.

I'm trying to think of what it would take for me to move Chris Sale. Hard to imagine.

Catcher (meh): Bruce Maxwell 158 PA 216/323/284, Mesoraco 165 PA 213/321/390, Phegley 127 PA 205/246/346, W Ramos 123 PA 205/250/366, J Sucre 153 PA 255/281/383

Yes, Jesus Sucre is probably my best catcher. Depth to trade though, and some guys with decent pop.

First base (awesome): Votto 534 PA 316/448/601 and VMart 408 PA 256/326/373

Too bad VMart hasn't played a single game in the field.

Second base (yuck): Brad Miller 298 PA 193/332/316, Brett Lawrie DFA'd, Raul Mondesi only 42 ABs, Alen Hanson 161 PA 220/255/313

Save me, Alen Hanson?

Shortstop (pretty good): Correa 375 PA, 320/400/566 but may not play any more, Wilmer Difo 244 PA 278/342/380, Jhonny Peralta 58 PAs and DFA'd twice

Save me, Wilmer Difo!

Third base (pretty good): J Turner 393 PA, 345/434/567, Jacoby Jones 57 PAs and sent down

Going to be short PAs, need a healthy September

Left field (blah): Keon Broxton 376 PA 226/303/460

Center field (yuck): Joc Pederson 292 PA 214/329/415

Right field (meh): Mark Trumbo 475 PA 240/301/410

All 3 of these guys are way worse than expected

Reserve OF (OK): Bradley Zimmer 275 PA 245/316/400, Nori Aoki 239 PA 267/315/373, Peter Bourjos 149 PA 230/277/403

Not as good as I hoped.

Rotation (OK I guess?):

JA Happ 96.2 IP, 1.30 WHIP, 1.40 HR9

Ivan Nova 155 IP, 1.21 WHIP, 1.28 HR9

James Paxton 119.2 IP, 1.08 WHIP, 0.53 HR9

Eduardo Rodriguez 93 IP, 1.26 WHIP, 1.16 HR9

Miguel Gonzalez 113.2 IP, 1.48 WHIP, 1.27 HR9

Who wants to trade RPs for SPs?

Bullpen (pretty good):

Felipe Rivero 59.2 IP, 0.77 WHIP, 0.45 HR9

Joe Kelly 39 IP, 1.18 WHIP, 0.23 HR9

Scott Alexander 49.1 IP, 1.36 WHIP, 0.55 HR9

Shane Greene 52.1 IP, 1.26 WHIP, 0.69 HR9

Kirby Yates 41 IP, 1.12 WHIP, 1.76 HR9

Keynan Middleton 40.1 IP, 1.36 WHIP, 1.56 HR9

Jose Alvarez 36 IP, 1.25 WHIP, 1.50 HR9

Jim Johnson 48 IP, 1.29 WHIP, 0.75 HR9

Robby Scott 29 IP, 1.07 WHIP, 1.86 HR9

Carlos Torres 59 IP, 1.49 WHIP, 1.37 HR9

Daniel Hudson 45 IP, 1.47 WHIP, 1.40 HR9

Jhan Marinez 52.2 IP, 1.58 WHIP, 1.03 HR9

Daniel Norris 85 IP, 1.67 WHIP, 1.06 HR9

Robert Gsellman 81.1 IP, 1.60 WHIP, 1.55 HR9

Eddie Butler 54.2 IP, 1.43 WHIP, 0.66 HR9

I mostly like my team, need a shortstop (thanks Matt Duffy) and a couple outfielders to finish strong enough that I can mix and match/platoon (I have tons of PA's, just very mediocre). Overall injuries are going to mean I have a lot of guys finish in the 500 PA range rather than 6-700 which will be interesting. My rotation will be okay and a few strong relievers and a bunch of crap beyond them. 45 of my 50 picks have seen action this year, so that's something?

First Base: Eddie E. coming on after another slow start, would like to see him finish with a hot final quarter and get somewhat about .500 SLG if possible. Danny got his second start at 3B, would be huge if he became playable there.

Not yet eligble: Melancon may go surgery which sucks with him 1.1 IP away from eligibility, but it what it is. More important is to get Castro, Simon. Banda has a good chance to become eligible, if he can have a nice end of the season, maybe I get 60 IP from him. Maybe

Overall, not an awful squad.  My offence is much better than my pitching and I am hopeful it is better than most teams.  I do have 4 SP, sadly they have 1.2-1.3-1.4-1.5 WHIPS.  I need 1 more SP to add innings (maybe NV trade?).  My RP are good, not a lefty in the bunchm, but the SIM doesn't care about LOOGYS.  I might be able to cobble a SP 5 between Santiago, Asher, Romano and Gossett by the time this is over using AAA.  MY RP is goodish.  Vincent, Strop, Norris, Neshek and Brach are a solid 5 with nice peripherals.

Chafin   43 IP      10.72/3.71 1.351 WHIP

And about 300 additional innings of 1.5+WHIP

Pitching should be fun.  I have the innings but will be giving up close to 10 runs a game

C: Lucroy 379 PAs(245/317/345), Chirinos 231 PAs(255/348/530), Giminez 180 PAs(211/326/375)

Can't believe how bad Lucroy has been.  Chirinos at least has given me something in limited ABs.  Might have enough PAs to trade someone.

1B: Goldy 560 PAs(316/427594), J Bell 502 PAs(266/345/497), Bellinger 419 PAs(274/356/612), M Adams 331 PAs(271/314/523), Jaso 269 PAs(218/331/402)

Position of strength and I have a bunch.  Hopeful someone might need a good 1B

2B: D Travis 197 PAs(259/291/438), Barney 271 PAs(220/264/291)

Travis died.  Might have enough PAs to scrape by.

SS: J Mercer 479 PAs(253/326/398), A Escobar 516 PAs(235/257/316)

Very mediocre, but should have two full-ish seasons.  Might be able to include one in trade if someone needs a SS

3B: M Franco 520 PAs(224/277/391), A Garcia 163 PAs(247/282/351)

Franco has been awful, but Phillies keep playing him so will at least have enough ABs.

OF: Stanton 550 PAs(296/389/670), Conforto 440 PAs(279/384/555), JD Martinez 368 PAs(277/361/620), Choo 522 PAs(262/370/405), Ichiro 165 PAs(252/311/338)

Doing well here, plus Bellinger, Adams, and Jaso will all have eligibility.  Can hopefully make some trades to improve pitching or infield.

SP:

Severino 156 IP(1.11 WHIP/0.92 HR/9)

Gray 127 IP(1.18/0.71)

Leake 154 IP(1.33/1.11)

Berrios 111 IP(1.16/1.05)

Kuhl 129 IP(1.46/0.71)

Wainwright 121 IP(1.49/1.04)

Richard 167 IP(1.52/1.19)

N Martinez 87 IP(1.33/2.27)

Should have plenty of innings, but a lot of partial season.  Pretty big drop off after the top 3, might be able to swing a deal to improve here if teams need innings.

RP:

Have a few doing decent, but way short on innings right now and no one is elite.  Can hopefully trade some of the above to field a full/decent bullpen.
