Buffalo gnats/Black Flies (1 Viewer)

Man, these things are absolutely relentless right now.  I don't ever remember them being a problem like now.  I didn't even know what they were until just now trying to figure out what keeps swarming me every time I go outside.

It's apparently due to all the river flooding around us but it seems to be affecting other areas as well.  Unfortunately, normal insect repellents don't seem to work against them either.   While out at the pool yesterday with my little ones, a couple of them followed me around the entire time, constantly going for the nose and neck and ears.

There's one bug spray that seems to work called Buggins that I'm going to give a try.  Anyway, for those of you affected by these, good luck trying to keep them away.

I hear you, brother. I was out at a nearby school on the blacktop shooting hoops with my second oldest a couple days ago and they mobbed me. I had some deep woods Off in the car and gave my head a good spray, but that had little effect. Sprayed a second time and nothing. They were relentless.

I stopped swimming in the summers as much as I used to because of these ####ers. Even if you dip underwater for a minute or so they'll still just sit there and wait for you to come back up. Hate em.

Had read that it worked well also. Curious to see if it works, because they are awful here.  I've also read Victoria's Secret's Amber Romance spray works so well, the LSU baseball team uses it. I had also read vanilla extract supposedly works, and I've tried that (just dabbed some on my skin) and it did nothing. But I've since read that you should use it in a spray bottle to mist it on, so might give that a shot.

Growing up in up state NY spent many memorial day weekends in the Adirondacks... They always said the last week of May and first week of June were there worst for black flies.

I don't see why you have to bring race into this...  BLACK FLIES MATTER!

While we're on the topic of flies that are a##holes, what level of hell gave birth to horse flies?

If you've ever been bitten by one, you know what I mean.

I’m in WNY and black flies are bad here. Horseflies freak me out though. We get some of those bastages that are like 2 inches long. Freaking mutants. We have a sliding glass door at the back of a garage and they seem to like to congregate there. At least they’re easy to smack when they’re on a window.
