Burress shoots himself in the leg (1 Viewer)

Man if I were a Giant fan I would hate this guy with a passion. They are doing just about everything as perfectly as an organization can these days, and this loser is trying to single-handedly eff it up.
I hope Giant fan memories aren't so short.

Yeah you can't hate on a guy who burned the Pack last year in the NFC championship game to help 'em get into the superbowl. If he wants to waste his career after that it's his call, but atleast he shot himself after he helped the Giants get a ring.

Trying hard not to hate on the guy too much considering what he did for the team and what he played through last season. Trying hard...

I'm not a Giant fan, but I've got to disagree with this sentiment to a degree. I'll use an example from my own team, the Redskins. John Riggins was as responsible as any single player for the team winning the Super Bowl against the Dolphins after the 1982 season. He even did it in typically grand fashion with that iconic 40-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-1 in the 4th quarter to put the 'Skins up for good in that game, and he'd been a horse all season. The following year, though, the night before the Super Bowl against the Raiders, Riggins and some of the linemen decided that that was a good time to go out and get absolutely gassed. They came out sucking wind and the Raiders absolutely destroyed them. That 1983 team was the best Redskins team ever, and it's not even really all that close. I'll never forgive Riggins for that even though I loved him as a player and he'll always be a Redskins hero. To me it's possible to respect Burress for his courageous play last year, and to also criticize him for handling that success so badly, especially when surrounded by a team that has been so single-minded in trying to repeat. He's pretty much who we thought he was, which was a guy with million dollar talent and a ten cent head.

It is interesting how trouble and problems always seem to follow certain people like Burris.

Everytime I think this guy can't get any dumber...he goes ahead and proves me wrong.

This one isn't.First, as TERRIBLE a year as Plax has had, it has not yet hurt them on the field in any considerable way, shocking as that is (gb Hixon). But you would be foolish to think that his talent isnt going to be missed at some point here.Second, the Giants had to sign him - had they not, it likely would have caused far more disruption than he has this year being signed and underpeforming.Third, while the guy is a flat out idiot, he has never to me seemed a "bad guy" - yeah, has had issues, lateness, all that, but doenst look to take down his teamates in any way.Fourth, its a long contract - cut our losses? Are you kidding? Ok, it's a lost year - but in a lost year the Giants are managing to do damn well. Just continue to work with him on his issues, understand he is not the brightest bulb but seems to be an ok teamate and look forward to a bounce back year next year. And about those memories - without him, we wouldne be SB Champs.

why is he carrying a gun  piece of ####
Why does merely carrying a gun make him a piece of ####?
A meathead with a history of domestic incidents carrying a gun that he can't even safely prevent from shooting himself is the very definition of a POS.
That wasn't what he said. He said carrying gun = POS. Domestic incidents and other stuff might make him a POS. Not knowing how to properly handle a gun just makes him an idiot.
You're reading too little into what he said, likely because you're a huge gun-owner's rights fan and you're paranoid about the slightest hint of anyone saying or implying anything negative about guns. Take your pill and count to 20.
:wall: First, he never said "carrying a gun = POS" He said, "Why is he carrying a gun", which he followed with a confused face as if to say that he doesn't understand it. Then he went on to make ANOTHER statement about him saying he was a POS. He did not say carrying a gun = POS. He gave 2 separate statements. 1- why was he carrying a gun. and 2- this guy is a POS

Second, you need to relax. Even if you are a huge gun rights advocate, you do realize that what Burress did was illegal? Carrying a concealed weapon without a license? Personally I think we need to get rid of handguns, but regardless of my personal opinion you can't be offended by someone calling a person who brings handguns to the club late on a Friday night a POS.... unless you frequent that habit yourself, for which yes, you are POS then.

Third, I do think carrying a loaded handgun out with you on a late Friday night/early Saturday morning (implying that he was out at the club or something) doesn't make you a POS. It's just one of the many characteristics a POS possesses.

Let me summarize...

Carrying a loaded handgun does not equal POS

Being a POS, or a sh it stain on society's underpants = possibly carrying a loaded handgun out with you to the club

Thugs with money. I am not surprised one bit.

All of the other Giants WR's are available in my league...who's the guy to pick up?
:wall:Steve Smith leads the team in receptions (and is 2nd in yards), but only has 1 TD.Toomer is 2nd in targets and has almost as many yards as Smith, plus 3 TDs.Hixon got 8 targets last week (first time he had more than 4). Hixon had his best game in Week 5 when Burress was out.None of those guys did anything in Week 1 vs. Washington.Washington's defense only gives up 192 receiving yards per game (2nd in league). They're #9 in TDs allowed. They're the #3 overall fantasy defense against the pass.I think Kevin Boss is the best pickup this week. After that I'm leaning towards Smith if he's named the starter.

If he is actually available, its Hixon. Most upside and thats what you need this time of year, in most cases.

You've got to admit...it's not as bad as the Jacksonville punter hitting himself in the leg with an ax. :goodposting:
I would only admit that if the Jackson kicker had chppped himself with an ax at a night club...now that would be even dumber than Burress taking a gun to a club.

There's a lot of space between "hate this guy with a passion" and "criticize him for handling that success so badly" in the love/hate continuum.

Hixon is starting this week per Yahoo Sports

Hixon is nice especialy in KRPR leagues.

---oh and at least we know that Burress is standing on the sidelines for a reason. Hammy must not have been bad enough.

Well, I am not surprised.

Raider fans should be happy, looks like Javon Walker's replacement has been identified.

I assume this club serves alcohol. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it a felony in all 50 states to have a firearm in an establishment that serves alcohol? By shooting himself he obviously can't deny he had a weapon. Tank Johnson was ridiculed for just owning weapons much less shooting them in a place of business. I'm curious to see how or if Goodell handles this.

hahaha. Had Hixon/ Steve Smith waiting to Emerge as soon as something like this would happen. Perfect my playoffs start this week. Steve Smith CAR Randy Moss, Hixon are my 3 starts

Fair enough, perhaps I over-reacted to his statement. Here's not the place for this discussion anyway.Carry on.

So Funny .........................................

He is so stupid its amazing...... The guy is one of the most gifted WR to come out of college ( Unfortunately only gifted phisically not mentally )..

Could hurt Burress in the pocketbook if they place him on the "non-football related injury list" instead of the IR. They wouldn't have to pay him for the time missed.

once all you women are done checking each other's panties and arguing over who called who what names, could you remember this is a football information forum and bring some relevance to the thread.....pathetic what people will do to become keyboard warriors.

any NY'ers have an update on this guy for this year would be great, or maybe career update.......it's not life threatening but could be career threatening.

if,if,if,if,if

We don't know- if Burress has a permit, If the club served alcohol.

What time was it?(not that big a factor) Who he was with, Was he drinking?

Still it screams "YOUR AN IDIOT" no matter what else we learn about this.

Settle down, Francis.

Just saw on TV (CBS) that Burress stayed in the hospital overnight, but that the injury was "not serious" Thats all I got.

yeah that article below says grazed his leg, so should be ok....hopefully this is a wake up call for this guy, his talent is ridiculous, but somehow I doubt this wakes him up.
