Greg Cote's blog | The chorus for Beck grows louder

The Dolphins' quarterback of the future will have to wait until, well, the future.

Coach Cam Cameron announced Monday that Cleo Lemon will remain the starting quarterback indefinitely, putting the highly anticipated start of rookie John Beck's career on hold for at least another week.

Everything appeared to be in place for Beck to take over, given the extra time to prepare because of the bye week, as well as this week's home-field advantage and a suitable opponent in the Bills.

Beck and Lemon will continue to split repetitions with the first-team offense during practice, Cameron said. That decision suggests Lemon's leash could still be short, but Cameron insisted Lemon earned the right to start this week's game.

In his three starts since Trent Green suffered a concussion, Lemon has completed 58.4 percent of his passes and has a passer rating of 70. He has passed for three touchdowns, fumbled twice and thrown four interceptions.

Beck's not getting any younger!

I can't keep all of these "arguments" straight - is Cameron an idiot for drafting Beck instead of Quinn or is he an idiot for not playing Beck? As someone persuasively argued in at least two of the Clemens-Pennington threads, it's not about Lemon, it's about when it's right for Beck to take over. Maybe that's this year after a bye week. Maybe that's week 1 next year. Who knows?

Low expectations if that's the criteria for "earning the right to start".

Get used to the idea of Lemon as the starter this week

The chorus of fans and consensus of media opinion-makers has been that John Beck should be Miami's starter Sunday when the Buffalo Bills visit Dolphin Stadium.

Sorry, but coach Cam Cameron has gone with Cleo Lemon. Fact is, Lemon today, right now, remains Miami's starting quarterback. Cameron confirmed this about an hour ago. And unless something changes between now and Sunday, Lemon will be the starter versus the Bills.

So Cameron has heard your opinions, weighed all the facts, and ignored sound thinking. And his is the only opinion that really matters.

Seems the Dolphins coaching staff has convinced itself into believing Lemon is getting better as a player. You hear stupid, ridiculous things like "Cleo is starting to do some nice things with his feet," as one reason for keeping Lemon as the starter.

Never mind that Lemon is a free agent after this season and all Miami is doing by giving him more playing time is giving him an opportunity to showcase his nice feet for some other team.

Also part of the decision-making process is that the coaching staff apparently doesn't think John Beck is quite ready yet. That the second-round pick, at 26 years old, is not ready for action after nine weeks is kind of disappointing.

But disappointment is something the Dolphins have mastered this season.

It's just getting so hard to root for this team. When you see last night's game and see Pats/Colts and their entire organizations it makes me cringe. What is going on here? Is Beck really not ready to take a snap just to see. He's a 26 year old who has no pressure to save the season. Us fans just want to see some glimpse of the future. He can throw 4 picks his first game as long as he shows potential.

Plus you'd be able to better judge if you need to use your #1 or #2 overall pick on a QB or if you could waste another one on a 2nd or 3rd round kick returner.

As a life long Dolphin fan this makes ZERO sense.

In that article he did mention that Lemon & Beck will continue to split reps with the 1st team. This tells me that Cleo will be on a VERY short leash this Sunday vs Buffalo. I would not be surprised to see beck start the 2nd half of the game vs the Bills and then take over from there.

I sure hope so ooofffaaa. I really don't care if we win or lose at this point. let's just make moves that make sense for the future (like Beck playing).
