Can the Lions win Saturday? (1 Viewer)

Calling Saints fans arrogant because they're backing a good team is ignorant- you'd probably say the same about Packers fans, 49ers fans, or Pats fans.
I think several Saints fans on this site are arrogant because they have an arrogant attitude, not because they back a good team.
And for a couple of them, calling them arrogant is being way too kind. If you called them for what they have been in this thread, you would get banned.

In Metro Detroit, my work's playoff pick em has 4 out of 24 people picking the Lions. But you know us crazy Lion fans, thinking our team has a chance in hell

Lions fan here and there is not much chance they win unless Drew Brees gets hurt. They also couldn't cover Graham at all in the first matchup and they forced zero turnovers. I think the Saints only punted 3 or 4 times the entire game.

If this game was in Detroit, I would pick the Lions but I don't even think the Packers or Patriots could beat the Saints in New Orleans at this point. They are looking unstoppable at home.

Brees career playoff is record is 4-3, so yes he can be beat. The lions need to approach the game the same way as the saints did against the vikings in the NFC championship game, hit

Brees hard and low. I still think the saints win, but since the saints have never won a road playoff game, I don't see the saints going any further.

I am betting on the Lions. The last game was closer than the score. Suh did not play and the defense was dinged up. The defense will not be 100%, but it is as close as they have been all season. If the Lions stay disciplined and the D shows up. Lions will win this game.

I think this game is gonna be great. I have the feeling the lions are either going to win or get smoked. The first ten minutes will probably say a lot for what kinda game it will be.

As a previous poster mentioned, I'd really like to see a Fitzgerald like performance from megatron this playoffs. Nothing better than when a great player takes their game to the next level in the biggest of moments. Even as an Eagles fan, it was hard not to appreciate what Fitzgerald was doing when they made their run to the super bowl. Part of the reason Fitz is prob my favorite player

The 11 point line is ridiculous. Take those points and enjoy your winnings.
 The Saints won't punt on drives when they are trying to score.*

*Not including the last four minutes of the game when they are running out the clock while up 52-24.
Would have been 52-28 if the Saints didn't show class by running out the last two minutes.Detroit played well for awhile. That was a nearly impossible spot for them to win.

In a league of "On any given Sunday", it is still overwhelmingly likely that the Saints win and probably win by 10-20.

Yes, this is the same saints team that lost to the Rams this year. And, yes, this franchise lost to Seattle last year when they were heavily favored.

But if you have been watching the Saints at home this year and especially over the last month, you know this team is firing on all cylinders in a way it really never has.

I honestly expect this to be a 45-27 type game.
:) . Won pretty good money on this one.

How many have they actually played? I can think of three off hand... Vikes, Bears and Seahawks.

Lions played well early. But when dealing with NO in the dome you have to play nearly perfect and get a few breaks. They didn't.

Can't argue when the better team won. Fun game.

I'd have liked to have seen the game unfold if the refs don't blow that whistle. I think the Saints are the better team, but they got some huge breaks by the zebras.

:goodposting: I hate when teams have to play in the Saints Dome in the playoffs. I swear it seems like the refs are on the Saints payroll. It's annoying that the Lions should have had a defensive TD if it weren't for the incompetent ref blowing the whistle. The no call holding was awful. Giving the Saints a 1st down when it was obvious they didn't make it, etc. I was very impressed by the Lions. The Saints are an inexperienced veteran team, but these inexperienced young Lions kept right up with them (as much as the refs would let them). With a better running game, experience, and some fixes on defenses, the Lions are going to be scary good.

Well well..I said the Lions had to knock Brees around, and they didn't even come close. I can only remember one time the Lions got to Brees. Saints OL played outstanding and totally neutralized Suh and VDB. It seemed like the Saints converted dang near 100% of their 3rd downs..

Agreed. Suh was invisible in the game last night. That's a huge credit to the NO Oline and you're right it's the main reason NO won. On the other side, NO was able to put pressure on Stafford on several occasions. This game was won in the trenches, where NO dominated both sides of the game.

I agree that the refs made a couple of questionable decisions, but the fumble recovery by Detroit was not contested by any Saint except for Colston. Go back and watch it again; the line judge on the bottom of the screen is the one that blows his whistle and Meachem who was right next to him just started walking back to the huddle because he heard the whistle. The Lions players kept playing thus making it look like a definite TD. I'm not saying he wouldn't have scored but Meachem would have been right there if not for the whistle. As far as the holding call, if a network wanted to focus on the O Line the entire game, you would see that type of blocking all game long. Was it a hold.......yes........was there holding on other plays during the game that didn't get called.........yes. The only reason this one was magnified is because a TD was scored and Collinsworth pointed it out on the replay.Detroit has a chance to be really good in the years to come. If they add a couple of free agents/draft picks to the secondary and find some healthy RB's, they will be a force next year.

Don't come in here posting stuff that makes sense! You'll ruin it for Lion fan wanting to blame the loss on something. It's also funny listening to guys complaining about playing in the dome and the Saints getting calls there. Saints have had the whistle go against them for 40 years. I wouldn't feel sorry if the Saints got a few calls thier way once in a while. The above poster was right, when the whistle blew right away the Saints players just stopped, none of them went towards the ball. By the time the Lions had recovered there were no Saints even near the ball because they had all stopped from the whistle like you are supposed to. The Lions played a terrific game and if I were a Detroit fan I would feel pretty good about the direction my team was headed, but I'd also be embarrased about all the  going on. You guys blew the season when you lost to Green Bay with thier best players resting. That was a must win game that would have kept you guys out of the dome. I love what the Lions have done and I look forward to seeing them have success for many years to come. Don't taint your season by foolishly blaming the refs for this loss.

I know you have no idea why this is so funny, but :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

If the Rams can beat them, the Lions sure as #### can beat them.
This
Yeah, because a mid-season trap game on the road is the same as a playoff game at home.
Nobody said it was the same. The OP asked if they CAN beat them. Sure they can. This Lions team is superior to the Hawks team that beat them last year.
Again, vastly different situations. Last year's Saints team was struggling with a Super Bowl hangover all year, was missing 6 or 7 key players in the playoffs and took a long West Coast road trip to a very tough place to play.I guarantee the Saints beat the Lions by 14+.
Well with the 11 point spread it seems to me you are staring at free money. What will you do with your winnings? Kegerator? New TV? Speaking as a fellow Star Wars fan I think this 1:1 scale R2-D2 replica deserves some consideration.
So Luke you gonna go for the R2-D2 or what?!? :)

The NFL is pushing for a Packers-Saints Championship game. You can tell by the bad calls against the Lions the last two weeks that the league had no intention of letting them win. It's a shame that it's getting almost as bad as the NBA.

Come on, man.Really??The Saints won that game handily last night. The second half wasn't really close. The Saints didn't punt all night. The regular season game was far closer. You really think the couple of calls that you think were questionable would have had that big an impact??Of course, the implication that the New Orleans Saints, of all teams, is getting preferential treatment from the officials is hilarious in and of itself.

Saints fans really showing their true colors now. The o-line was only allowed to hold on every play. Real hard to convert when the rules aren't being enforced in a one-sided fashion. The league knew they had to do something extra to stop the Lions since they had a healthy defense. Brees threw 4 INTs yesterday and was exposed for the fraud he is, but the refs were there to bail them out when it was needed.

I agree... I swear I saw a few of the refs putting grease on the Lions' players hands when they weren't looking causing them to drop those INTs!!! Damn the NFL!!!

Its time to leave Fantasy land. Holding every play? 3 of the 5 Saints OL are pro bowlers. I seriously doubt that was the case. The Lions lost because their defense couldn't make plays. I seriously doubt you will find many who agree with you that Drew Brees is a fraud. This is not the only game in NFL history that had a few calls go against a team.

Yeah but the only reason three O linemen made the pro bowl is because the NFL let's them hold every play! It's been a GB/NO setup since day one!

The Saints, the refs, and the league conspired to steal the Sunday paper off my porch this morning.
