Can we talk QB in here and who/when you're targeting? (1 Viewer)

I love Flacco this yr w tresman as the OC. Maybe not as a QB1 but late round back up
I've been thinking the same thing. Though, his WRs and TEs are a big question mark outside of Steve Smith. But, if Perriman, Aiken, Brown step up at WR and Williams come along quickly, they could have an interesting offense.
I don't get this logic. I mean, sure, if Trestman was coming in to replace Greg Roman, but he's replacing Kubiak who is very QB friendly. I mean, Flacco just hit a career high in TD passes... and it was only 27. Now he's got a new system to learn and his only reliable target is Steve Smith who is on his very last NFL season. They replaced a mediocre Torrey Smith with a rookie who can't catch. This may not be a total disaster, but his situation is worse than last year.

Right and that's why I'm torn on it. Trestman could help the offense, but there isn't much to work with outside of Forsett and Smith.

Yeah, QB is deep this year. I will most likely get a two man combo of EManning, Romo, Bradford, Tannenhill, Roethlisberger, etc. Just depends on who falls. I won't be in a rush to draft one and in my ten team league, I may very be the last owner to draft a QB.

I'm not sure you read what I wrote. I said Kubiak was very good for Flacco, so Trestman might not even be an upgrade. There's nothing to be torn about. Flacco had a very good OC last year and decent receiving options yet he finished QB14. His WRs got worse, he made a lateral move at OC, and his ADP is QB16. I'm not seeing the point of drafting him this year.

Just to add clarity, neither coach ought to be considered a fantasy windfall for a QB on his own merits.

Kubiak: Over 20 years of coaching at the OC or HC level, his teams have averaged about 12th in passing yards, and 13th in passing scores. Considerably lower if we filter out the years where there wasn't a Shanahan heavily involved. Just 14th and 18th the last four years.

Trestman: Over 10 such seasons, his teams have averaged about 11th in passing yards, and 16th in passing scores.

Trestman certainly passes more often than Kubiak, his teams averaging about 9th in the league over his various tenures, while Kubiak's are around 16th. But that number is obviously buoyed by Trestman's well-known preference for using his RB's in the short passing game. (He averages more than 100 total passes to RB's each season.)

Neither guy is likely to give the QB a boost relative to the average coach, however. Now Forsett, that's another story...
