Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (1 Viewer)

Might have to give a shot this weekend then and see what happens. I pay $108/month right now, but it's set to increase about another $15-$25 in the next couple of months. So I'm sure they'd rather me pay $75-$90/month than to just throw down $120 and walk away.

So with this formula, will they upgrade your package? I have a very basic package that I went to about 3-4 mos ago hen my bill got rather high. My contract is up in June and I want to do this.

From what I understand, you need to be on a current package, but I don't think the tier matters.

My package was very old so they moved me to a current one that was very close to what I had (gained a couple and lost a couple of channels) that ended up being $4 less per month.

Huh, they didn't even offer me anything to stay. Just asked if I wanted to downsize my package and I said no and that was that. Back on hold again...

Well set my cancel date for 5 June. They didn't even try hard to keep me. Gonna try to call tomorrow and pretend I got the newdeal1 email.

If you give it a week, there is a much higher likelihood it'll be in their system. From what I gathered, I think this team acts independently of most of the folks on the general DTV number.

I had the same thing though, they offered me a few dollars off of the ST and that was that.

I thought they would offer me something. The rep just asked if I had thought about dropping down from the Ultimate to a lower-tiered package and that was it. Didn't offer me anything to try and keep me, which I thought was strange. They're willing to let me pay my $120 early termination fee and be gone. I'll give it a couple of days and try back then.

your phone call sounds identical to the one I had last year.

This year they at least offered a whimpy $15 off which I said no to to stay on the script.

Just did this. I even had 2 months left on my commitment from last year's call. Called Monday, listened to their offers and thanked them for their efforts but stated I still had to cancel purely for financial reasons. Got the email 2 days later. Called back today with the deal code and got 47/mo. off for a year, free ST Max and the $200 gift card. Had to do a 1 year commitment but that's no problem. $1118 in combined savings/gifts for spending 30 minutes on the phone with them.

I love that this is working for so many people.

If it was not for this thread I was so discouraged last year that I was expecting nothing again.

Ok going to try today.

Do the normal, cancel lines? and they don't offer anything worthy, set a cancelation date how far out? In how many days does the email come? Do you have to even wait for the email?

So they just called me for the 3rd time in the last hour lol. Answered this time...

$47 off/mo for 12 months

Free Sunday Ticket Max

$200 Visa gift card

You guys rock!!!!

Read the script below.

Call 1-800-531-5000

Get to retentions department

Confirm you are in retentions department

Don't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks out

Confirm cancellation date

Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 code

If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.

If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the email

You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet

If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system

No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again

You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start

If all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later

Fabulous! Not that it matters but did you get the free premium channels too for 3 months?

Don't forget to go to the website and fill out the paperwork for the gift card.

Didn't say anything about premium channels but we use a friends HBOGo so doesn't matter if we don't have it.

Told me I didn't have to do anything for the gift card. It would be in the mail after 30 days of service.

Hmm. They told me I had to use the web site to get the card. Interesting.

Yea, told me I would get the gift card in the mail too after my first bill on my new contract and I didn't have to do anything... Where on the website do you fill anything out?

The form for the $200 gift card is at the following link. It first checks if you are eligible and then gives you a simple form you have to fill out and mail.

www.directv.com/rebates

Interesting, said I wasn't eligible... I'll wait it out and give them a call in 6 weeks or so.

Not really worried, I'm sure I'll get it.
You are probably not eligible because they handled it already for you when you called. My rep must have not done that for me.
My rep must have handled it as well. Made my call 3 weeks ago or so, and received the gift card this week, did not have to fill anything out.

So can you get this if you have a few months remaining on your contract? Do you have to pay the cancellation fee before doing any of the other steps?

I just called and scheduled a cancellation 2 weeks out. There was minimal effort to keep me. I have 7mo left bc of the stupid Genie that I never use so there is a $140 fee pending.

I'm a little nervous bc I called 800-directv to cancel, but I did just miss a call from them. We'll see...

Called with the PIN number

Was offered $10 off a month and Sunday Ticket Max.

My bill would be $96 a month I'm used to paying $85-91

I declined and set up a cancel date for 6/5

I'll call back saying I got the email in. Couple days?? Was I stupid to turn down the max?

Will they call me back tonight?

They just called again. I'm doing yard work and don't feel like talking so i didn't answer.

When they make the offer and I do the 12 month commitment, is that on top of what I had already or does it start fresh?

After 4 more calls I answered.

My bill went from $120 a month to $68, free Sunday Ticket Max, $200 visa gift card and they added a few movie channels.

I went from 7 months left on my commitment to 12.

I love this place.

Jealous. I called at 4:30 waiting on my call. Hoping I get it.

What makes you eligible?

I assume what ever made you eligible for NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2. Must be some sort of re-signing bonus after you have cancelled.

We are killing it!

Does this mean you did not even have to pay any fee for stopping the old contract? If so everyone should jump on this before it goes poof even if you are under contract.
