Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (1 Viewer)

Seems theyre really moving quickly, calling back within 24 hours to get deals done today...there might be something to the deadline date.

I called Friday and set a cancellation date of 6/3. Didn't get a call or email but called the 877 number anyway. Told them I got the new deal email. Received $43 credit for 12 months and the $200 visa. I didn't haggle for Sunday Ticket or movie channels because I don't use them. Thanks dudes
Hmm, I may just call later this afternoon then.

Awesomeness.
Id do it ASAP...if it doesnt work you can just cancel the cancellation. Youve got literally NOTHING to lose.

Missed call at 9:30am this morning from Loyalty Team....
Bingo. Called back just now before the FBG site went viral and used up all the promo. The initial offer when I called back was only $43 off per month, movie channels, and genie installation. I asked if there was anything else he could offer to sweeten it a bit and then he kicked in the visa card and ST Max. Very similar offer to the others other than adding the genie mini to the deal with free installation. (before they wanted $99 for the genie mini).

$40 off/month for 12 months - bill went from $126 to $83

free $200 Visa GC (receive in 6 - 8 weeks)

Free movie stations 3 months

ST Max

Genie Mini added free installation

Total call was 34 minutes.

Thanks guys for the information.

this was the only question i asked and it required a 2 year commitment. it would have been free though. but that's been available for a while, for me at least. my receivers are ancient too.

I'm tempted to call later this afternoon, even with only calling to set up the cancellation here this morning.

I had just switched our contact email from my wife's to mine.... maybe set it up by saying she got the email, gave me the number and told me the code.
Thats what I did, I called two hours later.

I just placed the cancellation call - took all of 5 mins (simply confirming details). She made sure to verify my phone and email twice during the call. Will call back in a couple of hours with the rest of the script to see what happens.

It would probably be a good idea to have the OP put this in the first post

Call 1-800-531-5000Get to retentions departmentConfirm you are in retentions departmentDon't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks outConfirm cancellation dateWait to receive "We won't you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 codeIf you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the emailYou may get turned down for "not being in their system" yetIf that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the systemNo matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try againYou may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the startIf all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later
doing this now as we speak.

I'm sort of at the point where I wouldn't mind cancelling. If I did that and let my cancellation go through, is there a good chance they'd offer an even better deal to bring me back?

ok, cancellation set for June 10th

then again I may just let it cancel, I'm only looking at a $30 cancellation fee and I can now get all the soccer games via appletv and movies on netflix/hbo go.

You have to love their security. Wife and I have the same phone number, except the last digit, and I can never recall which one is on the account. So I give her mine.

"Can you verify for security purposes the phone number associated with this account?"

"555-555-5544"

"It's 43."

"Uh, OK. Thanks for verifying my number for me?"

Just called & set up my cancellation date for 6/10.

Have been a customer since 2003. Currently have $5/ mo discount from Choice package I think, and $5/ mo for 12 mos for auto bill pay, and free HBO/showtime/cinemax for 3 mos (expires in mid july). They couldn't offer anything else other than some free additional sports channels for a limited time.

10 months left on contract, $200 disconnect fee.

Will be keeping an eye out for what they send my way & keep y'all informed.
Just got off the phone for the 877 number. I did my first call last night, and had not received any promo email or phone call from them - but called anyway & said I had an email & mentioned the "newdeal1". I was not showing up in their system at first & then they said, yes I was eligible.

$41 off/mo for 12 mos

Free ST MAX

$200 gift card (had to ask for this)

no free HBO/SHO/Max (I was already getting this offer, so it wasn't available to me).

I'll need to call back before Sunday to get HBO added back to my account for GOT (a la carte most likely), since the free HBO/SHO/MAX went off of my account when I accepted the new agreement. My previous agreement was due to expire April 2016, now I am under contract until May 2016.

Just checked my online "recent activity" and the discount is processed as a $31/mo "instant rebate - 12 mos" & a $10/ 12 mos credit CHOICE.

Good luck to all, great thread.

ETA: 2nd call took about 20-25 minutes

Just spoke to Wendell in retentions and set up cancellation for June 9th. I also owe an early cancellation fee ($125).

He stated that Directv values my business as a customer since 2002, and they will have an outstanding reconnect offer if I choose to return.

Spock now waits...
Got the email this morning and just got done talking to them.

$41/month off for 12 months

$200 Visa gift card (will be mailed out within 4-6 wks)

Free Sunday Ticket Max

No go for me on the 3 month HBO/Starz, but the guy said to call back in a month or so and it shouldn't be a problem.

Spent less than 15 minutes on the phone with zero hassles.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Very happy!!!

I'm on the phone with them now. Basically where I am after canceling, what, 2 hours ago? I didn't bother with the, "I got your e-mail" shtick. I just told him after I canceled I talked to a buddy who got this deal, and if he could hook me up I'd stay.

First Fail!!

Don't know if I was singled out but just got off the phone with them. I called yesterday and set the disconnect date for June 11, the rep did nothing to keep me other than lecture me on why I should stay and what a good deal I was already getting (not really ...).

Hearing that things may be tightening up, I called the 877 #. The first lady (Linda) couldn't find our account with my wife's number or my phone number and I had to give her our DTV acct #. We then got disconnected. I called back and got Bill - same routine but when he found our account he said he had to go check and returned to say that they would call back soon but had to call my wife. (I called and told my wife not to answer but that we would get back to them ...she is at work and doesn't deal with the bills and doesn't know what all to ask for).

I get the call at 6:45 CST after they call her number. Forty-five to fifty minutes later I told them if that is all they could do I would wait and see if their policies changed - that I knew others were getting significantly better deals. I worked with the guy patiently and played the "good guy" role to the end. I did get other offers (like 3 free genies, but that is BS ...causes 24 mo. commitment that he didn't mention until I asked). I have been with them since 2005.

The deal I turned down this evening (may wish I had it back ...but ok with risking it).

- Must upgrade to the Ultimate Choice pkg at $86.99/mo. from the Choice Xtra in order to get a $47/mo. discount (12 mo.)

- Sunday Ticket

- No VISA card and no 3 mo. free HBO etc.

- $86 total bill for 12 months (compared to the $103 below)

FYI - I currently have:

- Choice Xtra - $79.49

- free HBO (at end of 3 month trial from previous "every 4-6 mo. negotiation)

- 3 TVs - $13

- Advanced Receiver Svc - $10

- Protection Svc - $7.99

- Advanced Receiver DVR - $0 (2 months left of full credit of $10/mo)

- Discounts - $20 ($10 and 2 $5 credits)

- Regional Sports - $2.14

- Taxes - $7.27

Total - $102.89

Can you really not get by with a stb on every tv?

Am I too late to do this? Also what package do you guys have? I have choice xtra classic which I'm told is an old one but they keep me on it because it's cheaper.
Choice. I pay $100/mo, basically. Discounting $41 monthly for the year.
They upgraded me from Ultimate to Premier package (top tier) for no extra charge.

$40 off/month for 12 months - bill went from $124 to $84,

4 TVs with Genie DVR and minis in each room

Similar to people here.

Free ST max

$200 GC

with 12 month renewal.

No gift card or free movie channels for X months?

So no idea if this is a fail or not...but I'm in my last month of the initial contract where I'm currently getting a "win back" discount (I only currently pay $39.99 for XTRA package)...so he said the system is not letting him renew it until June 1st.

Said to call back June 1st (my 1st 12 months "win back" deal expires on May 31) and specifically ask for him and he can see what's available to give me. But he's 99% sure the $200 gift card won't be there.

I may or may not call back again tonight just to see

I just can't dial the numbers. Petrified to make the call. Afraid that no matter what happens they'll disconnect on the cancel date and we'll lose everything on the dvr.

You can cancel the disconnect if worst comes to worst and just remain exactly as you are. It may not matter though if the deal expired as was mentioned earlier today.

Just a heads up. i was told that they would disconnect for up to 24 hrs before they could have me in their system to give me the package, and that they would call me when it was reissued (with confirming eamil to follow). They did so around midnight. will see where things are when i get home tonight. but no surprises yet.
Push back on this. I was originally told that too, but when I was transferred to the account manager to go over my offer she told me that they would NOT disconnect my service. They'd simply add the deal to my account. So it's definitely possible.
this was last night. too busy at work to deal with this until this evening.
done deal.... 5-10 min call.

Got $43/mth discount plus a $10 HD discount added.

Sunday Ticket Max free

All movie channels free

GC

Call took 7 mins of talk plus 5 min on hold waiting for sup to confirm. No service interruption and no contract extension.

Good looking out TheMeanMachine!!

I canceled at 4:30. Still have 7-8 mos left.

Just called the 877# got a nice girl, said she sees that I'm eligible but not sure for what as she can't see the offers. Told me to disconnect at midnight and call first thing in the morning. If there are still no offers they will reconnect me until my cancelation date.

I did not receive any email or call,I just called.

So I'm in limbo for now.

Right no risk to give it a try. See what happens for a week. Set cancel date for 2 weeks from today.

If you hear nothing cancel the disconnect.

When they set that cancellation it's just like a hotel setting a wake up call. Anytime something is automated there's a chance it still goes through and you lose the whole dvr.
