Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (2 Viewers)

stick it to them, Willie. hope you get your Boom channel.
Did they through the whole spiel with you about cancelling? Gonna send an envelope, fees may apply, etc. Told me they were VERY sad to see me go. Also said if I wanted to reconnect would have great offers.
yeah, they did. but they don't send anything until after your service has been disconnected for at least a week because they know most people change their minds.

They never verified my number or email. Lady I spoke with was in Idaho. Very nice woman. We talked for a few minutes about my broken elbow.

She also offered me to keep my same package but only $7 off what I am paying now + sunday ticket. Said I already have $35 in credits and have one of the "cadillac" packages.

I've been with DirecTV for 15 years. I was on a discontinued channel package for a long time, but switched a few years ago. Now I'm on XTRA, which I was paying $77.99/month for. They lowered that to $34.99/month for 12 months.

It's possible some of the packages you guys are on left you ineligible for the discount, but changing isn't really that big of a deal imo. You can clearly see which channels are offered on their website by package.
I had to switch packages too, I was on a defunct one. I lost 8 channels I never heard of with the new one, so its basically the same.
You lost the Esquire Channel ...good shows on there - Friday Night Tykes, Short Game and a couple others I don't feel like looking up is on there. I didn't want to lose that channel and could care less about the extra ones they were giving.

not sure the Esquire channel is worth passing on $43/month discounts for 12 months ($516) plus a $200 giftcard and free Sunday Ticket and movie channels for 3 months, but if it is that must be the best channel ever.

ETA: Agree on the lack of overall importance of the Esquire Channel - its not that big a deal.

They also were not giving me

- the $200 GC

- or 3 mo. (some are getting more time) HBO/movie channels

- Also important, they were removing my current $20 in discounts and requiring a new higher pkg that was $7.50/mo. higher

* net discount = $19.50/mo. rather than the $43/mo. most all of you received

Did they take away your current discounts?

That entertainment package they offered me would have taken away so many channels including nfl network, cbs sports, nbs sports, big ten network. What an awful offer. Still no call or email and left ear is clogged.

Yikes - do you remember the name of the package they offered that doesn't include those so I can stay away from it?

Note: I have a $2.14 "sports network" charge - thought it just covered regional college sports ...but not sure.

Yes, the "Entertainment" package. Still no call over here. almost 1.25 hours.

not sure if this link will work or not.

Entertainment package is their 2nd cheapest at $59.99/month

Choice is next one up at $70.99/month

Xtra is next up at $77.99/month

from what I can tell, you lose these with Entertainment package:

Big Ten Network

CBS Sports Network

Cooking Channel

Comcast Sportsnet

Do It Yourself network

ESPNews

ESPN U

Fuse

Game Show Network

IFC

MLB Network

NFL Network

SEC Network

Didn't know they could break up Redzone channel. I had difficulty last year with it but ended up getting the Max, they almost didn't because I got it the year prior, but had to say previous reps promised me it and just called 4-5 times. This year way easier 10-15 minutes and done.
Yeah...they can do Redzone only.

Didn't have the stones to set a cancellation date last year and settled for a much lower bill and free Redzone on its own.

Hold on, you wrote this before:

my bill went from $110/mo to $68/mo or something like that.

$42/month discount for 12 months

Free Sunday Ticket Max for 2015

$200 Gift Card after 30 days of active service

Free HBO/Showtime/Starz for 3 months

pretty nice
so you're paying $35 or $68? I'm thinking because I was already getting $35 in discounts, that is why all she could do was offer me $7 more bring it to $42. No wonder they haven't called yet. I may have turned down their best offer.

they told me over the phone my programming would go from $77.99 to $34.99.

they told me my total bill each month would go from $110 to $68.

there are other fees in there like a fee for DVR, HD programming, a 2nd receiver, a regional sports fee, plus taxes I assume that take it up from $35 to $68.

My bill is only $75. Maybe that's why she mentioned $7 off only. Does the $68 include HBO? You get free movies for 3 months and then you pay for them or just don't subscribe?

yes, I'm getting every single movie channel free for 3 months. once that is up, they will start billing me for them until I call to cancel.

It's all beginning to make sense now. I already had $35 in discounts. I think many here were paying full price or close to it. Bye-bye directv for me. Should have just stood pat.

If you want to stand pat just call up and cancel the request to stop your service. Nothing will change.

If you want to leave Direct TV and go some where else, then let the request to stop stay in place.

DO NOT HAGGLE ON THE INITIAL CALL

JUST CANCEL

Wtf is so hard about this? They are going to try and stop you, it's their job. Just say, no thanks and cancel. Set the date for 2-3 weeks out. You have plenty of time at that point to make an informed decision. Wait a day or two and stick to the script. Buncha ninnies in here.

This is what i did but what I am saying is that many in this thread were not getting the deal i was already getting. I was paying only $76 total WITH HBO before making the call. I'm going to get $42 off on top of that? i doubt it. Sunday ticket is no problem because I just call and ask for it every year.

I give up

My bill is 8 dollars cheaper now. I have every movie channel, had zero before. Free st max. And a $200 gc

I had a good deal before I called. Why not see if I can get a better one. If you don't discuss any changes on the initial call, no changes are made. And you can call anytime and cancel the cancellation and simply continue with what you have. If you don't follow the script, it's on you.

I couldn't be following the script better.

On the phone now. Cancelled Wednesday afternoon and never got the NEWDEAL email or a call from them.

$43 off per month (Xtra)

All movie channels for 3 months

ST Max

12 month contract

I then said "So after 12 months I'll be paying what I pay now"

She said "Minus $10. We'll give you a $10 credit per month for months 13-24 of this promotion"

Confirming with line by line now

I was 91 but likely 110 when my credits wore off, They got me down to 78, I must have another TV etc

We have the same tv tier package. I wish I could save the extra $8.00 a month and go from extra to choice. You lose CBSsports, NBC sports, and Fox Sports 2 with that which stinks. NBATV too but I don't care.

You'd think NBC Sports would be pretty standard.

I guess there are those of us who are following the script but the script doesn't apply to us. We're already getting the deals you're trying to get but we didn't realize that we did because we didn't realize what some of you guys are paying. Now we're waiting for a deal that doesn't exist. Some of you guys are throwing out numbers talking about base package prices. Who cares about that? i only care what the final amount is. Almost 4 hours and no call or email. When do i call back and lie some more? Monday?

At this point I think he is almost trolling us.

We should have been clued in when he started pretending how hard it was to determine what channels are in which package. That was an obvious dead give away I missed.

I followed it! I'm saying I was already getting the deals that others were seeking. i didn't realize that because I didn't realize people were paying top dollar to begin with. I was already getting $35 off plus other stuff. My total bill was never over $75 and that was with HBO. You guys were paying 110 a month or something? Outrageous. Of course they offered you a deal. I'm not going to get that deal and I believe i've turned down what will be their best offer. The GC deal is over. I'm getting Sunday Ticket no matter what. Maybe they'll call back and offer some movie channels but hearing I have to call and cancel that in 3 months or be billed, That is always a turn off.

People might want to double check if they got the $43 credit. They might have it as well. It broke down to a $33 for 12 and $10 for 24

Maybe I'm wrong but I felt that way yesterday. He asked the same question about losing shows off his DVR multiple times.

You need to be patient for the call back. No reason to worry until a couple days before your cancelation date.

Strangely I received my boxes from DTV today to return equipment. I hope that it was just sent out before I recommitted.

Being patient here. All i said was i realized they basically offered me $43 off (36+7) and free sunday ticket and I turned it down. Maybe they call back and throw in movies. Again, the disconnect was the $43 off part. Some of us won't get $43 off because we already get most of that. I'm not going to get my package plus HBO for $32 a month (less that even because I'll get 3 free months of HBO). And my dvr has been reset by them over the phone before. i just asked if people who went through a cancellation, if the dvr'd content stayed as is. Legit question and I got an answer.

I was paying 72, with good discounts. Now I'm paying 65 with free st max and $200 gc and free movies for 3 months. I will have to call back mid August and cancel the movies. Oh noes!!!!

So you didn't get $43 off your bill for 12 months? that's all I was saying. Some of us aren't going to get $43 additional dollars off our bills.
