Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (4 Viewers)

Wow, I disconnected my service as of last night at midnight.   I just called 855 407 3110 and said I got an email of the Big deal.   He said they have been trying to call and email me.  He asked why I cancelled,  I told him costs was the main reason, he told me to hold on.  He then tells me I do not qualify for free Sunday Ticket!  I said, I am no longer a customer, are you telling me I don't qualify for the big deal email I just received?  He said unfortunately not, I hung up.  I will try later.  Unreal 

 
Got the cancellation notice today, even though it was still on. So I called and told them got the email confirming today's cancellation, then got the Big Deal email. They gave me everything that everyone else got without any issue, although I did have to ask for the gift card myself. Cheers!

Congrats.  What number did you call?  Not sure why I was stonewalled.

 
Not 100% related but thought this was a good spot for it.

I have internet with xfinity.  I had a promotional rate that jumped up to a much higher rate per month for the same service.  Typically, I get a much lower speed than the advertised, especially at night.  There were no discounts to increase my speed except for a tv/internet combo.  I just wanted to increase my speed but to do that, I would need to add a tv service that I do not need.  So, I am going to be getting a cable box that will just be staying in its box in order to get the discount on the internet that I want.  So stupid.

Except I did exactly that and have called twice this morning after my service was cancelled at midnight last night.  No offers are available.   I think the system has not updated and still shows me in disconnect process.  I will call later today

Don't ask, TELL them you got the Big Deal email, regardless if you did or didn't.

If for some reason you end up being the only one I know of that doesn't get the deal, sign up with your wife's name as a new subscriber. Problem solved. But I have a hard time believing you'll be the only one.

I told them I received big deal email, no dice. 

 
Directv has been calling my house a bunch this morning, I told my wife to give them my cell phone.  They just called me.  Best offer they could do was Sunday Ticket, not Max.  And free sports pack.  

I told them to pound sand.  Not sure why I am the only one getting railed on this.  Maybe since cancellation was only 12 hours ago the system is slow to bring up the offers.  I will try again later.

I tried that last year.  tried to swap ticket for center ice.  apparently it doesn't work that way.  good luck, would love to see it work.  I don't use the ticket at all but they keep giving it to me.

Someone posted in here that they did just that. Swapped ST for center ice.

LOL.. It took 96 minutes for them to call after I set cancel date of 8/21.

Had Xtra package year 1 at $77.95/month.  Bill went to $118.95/mo year two and no ST Max.

New bill will be $71.98 with ST Max at no charge and same XTRA package  :pickle:

$200 gift card in 6-8 weeks. I had to ask for it and she had to get mgr approval.

I called 100 minutes ago and actually cancelled and set 8/21 date (I was paid through that date).

Spent 20 minutes on initial cancel call listening to crappy deals.  Did not mention Big Deal on that call.  Did mention on this call. Said a friend got that email after he cancelled two months ago. Used that to say he also got $200 gift card.

it did dry up around this time last year, at least the GC did.  Did you call the number listed in this thread?

I'm wondering if mentioning that Dish has $54.99 plan that includes Red Zone and that Red Zone was all I watched made a difference.

When they called, the gal was super nice and asked me what I liked to watch most.

When I called to cancel, that gal also asked me what I liked to watch and spent a lot of time telling me that Dish has a lot of hidden fees.  She could only come down to $98/mo with no NFL at all. I had to get her to stop talking and set cancellation and cancel date. She set it up to send me return boxes.  When they called, I made sure cancellation was being cancelled and she said she was taking care of all that and no cancel fees.  

 
Well, I am officially shuked.  I called again and spoke to a guy who gave a number to the department that can offer me the big deal, 866-284-2816.  I called that number and spoke with a very nice lady who said my account still shows pending disconnect.   I explained that my service was shut off at midnight last night and I even got an email from Directv stating my service had been disconnected at 2:30 a.m.  She said that it looks like the system will show total disconnect at midnight tonight.  She was familiar with the big deal but said she couldn't offer it because of the pending status.   She assured me another department could do it and tranferred me there.  I explained mywork situation and was told no discounts are available.   I may end up switching to Dish, this is torture.   I want the Pac 12 network anyways.  I will make one more call tomorrow and if that doesn't work I am done.

i just don't have the energy to actually cancel and wait for the callback.  i will meekly see what i can get for just getting redzone which is all i want anyway which i have received before.  should have done this when i moved last month and signed a 2 year contract.

I did a terrible job...so focused on the move was not even thinking about my normal August move. I basically led out saying I want to move and don't mind locking into a contract.

I'm hoping Directv screwed up on mine and for whatever reason full cancelation wasn't until midnight tonight.  I will reportback in the morning 

 
When i called to cancel i set it up 2 weeks out. Next day i received the big deal email. I called and they said they had nothing for me, perhaps because my date was so far out. They set me up to cancel that night and offered to call me back right away next morning. From what I experienced and read here it sounds like you have to be documented in their system as disconnected before they are allowed to offer you the best deals.

Based on this, I'd wager that @Don't Noonan didn't fully cancel to the point where they confirmed address to sending out equipment return boxes. Something is missing in his story.  The gal that called me back 100 minutes after I cancelled was set to give me the BigDeal from the get go. And my cancel date was set for four days from today.
