Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (1 Viewer)

Lol on a 3 way right now with retentions and the special number because rententions has no idea about this and doesnt understand why my number isn't in their system

I think I just talked to some really dumb people. The 3 way fixed it somehow as when the retentions rep talked to the special phone number lady she said I do now qualify for newdeal.

Didnt offer me $200 visa card until I started ummmming about dropping the bill and sunday tix Max.

Just got off the phone with them. Nice lady, but no attempt to offer ANYTHING to keep me. I said I needed to keep it under $100 and she started down the "what do you watch, etc." and "if you got rid of the insurance" you would be under $100. When I told her we weren't interested in down grading our programming she didn't go any further and just scheduled me for my requested disconnect date (June 11).

so did you get the total package others have received?

1) ~$43 off per month

2) Free Sunday Ticket

3) Free HBO/Starz for 3 months

4) $200 gift card?

since this is a DTV thread.....just a reminder to those of you that have extra innings...........mlb.tv is included with the subscription, you just use your DTV signin at the mlb site when prompted.

What's funny is I've been telling people about this, but they're all skeptical and don't want to do it. They're missing out on a great deal.

i used to get mlb. i noticed this year that i am getting the game mix (which is all i cared about at the time).... ch. 720.

I went to a BBQ over the weekend and saw their directv dish. I couldn't help but start telling them about this deal. They kind of looked at me funny and that was the end of it. lol

I don't get it. If someone told me I could essentially save $1,000 over a year, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

That's around what my bill was at always 89-95 a month now down to 78 for a year, didn't get HBO, they offered that and I asked for the GC instead.

Good Job!!!!! I'm almost as happy for others every deal than my own. almost..

I also don't understand why certain family or friends aren't trying.

Related, but a little off topic.

Have any of you encountered something like this: 7-8 years ago I moved. DTV installed at my new house, but allowed me to maintain my original address as I had yet to finalize my move (and this helped me get local channels). My account is still tied to the old address. Today, my current location has local channels so it's finally time to get my account correct. I've avoided any upgrade requiring an installer since I'd have to come clean about where I live. Think there is any chance their records will show an install under my name at my current address if I ask to "move".

As for getting a good deal, do I have more/less leverage in a moving situation? Do I play the game differently from the script you all have been rolling with?
Posted again to let the weekday crew see. Still looking for any answers.

Just called & set up my cancellation date for 6/10.

Have been a customer since 2003. Currently have $5/ mo discount from Choice package I think, and $5/ mo for 12 mos for auto bill pay, and free HBO/showtime/cinemax for 3 mos (expires in mid july). They couldn't offer anything else other than some free additional sports channels for a limited time.

10 months left on contract, $200 disconnect fee.

Will be keeping an eye out for what they send my way & keep y'all informed.

I'm not quite getting what you're looking for here. But I did a move (with a 3 month interruption of service), and my account goes back to when I first signed up (2003).

I would avoid any mover's deals - since those are usually ones that a prime benefit would be to installation of the new dish. Since you already have that, I'd to with the script if that deal is what you are looking for.

Just made the call from the script.

Confirmed I had retention dept, set cancel date for 2 weeks out (June 10th). She offered me half off HBO and Showtime for 6 months. I said no thanks. She then offered free Sunday Ticket. I said no thanks.

Found out Im under contract til November, so I have a $100 early cancellation charge (@ $20/month). I said fine since Ill be saving almost $100/month by switching to FIOS.

Got the whole "Youll need to send us equipment back, we will send you a prepaid label" blah blah blah.

Confirmed cut off date for June 10th. She said DTV will be there should I want to ever come back, and they'd give me a good price. we shall see.

End call. Now I wait. Will update progress.

Just spoke to Wendell in retentions and set up cancellation for June 9th. I also owe an early cancellation fee ($125).

He stated that Directv values my business as a customer since 2002, and they will have an outstanding reconnect offer if I choose to return.

Spock now waits...

Just called the 877 number to see if the script works for me. He thanked me for calling, made small talk about what I watch, which teams I followed, then offered this:

-$43 off for 12 months

- Free Sunday Ticket Max

-$200 gift card mailed in 6 to 8 weeks, no form to complete on line

-No contract extension (ends in July)

When I pushed for free movie packages, it was not available for some reason.

Glad I made the call!

Just called and set my cancel date for June 5th.

I only have a month left of my contract so I would think I would get a nice offer.

I have never paid for ST before and I sure as hell don't plan to start now. :)

Throw in an monthly discount and $200 gift card and I will be glad to stay another year.
Took them only 16 hours to call me.

Got the $200 gift card. $40 off bill, ST max for free and free movie Chanel's for 3 months. 12 month renew.

Couldn't be more happy.
Update: Things got a little strange. So when I signed back up on Saturday morning they warned me that my service would go off and back on again at midnight. If for some reason my service did not come back on to call them Sunday. Well Sunday came and no problem. Then comes Monday morning I wake up and I have no service??? So I call them they have no idea what's going on and it shows I have canceled my service. Well after 3 people and 1 hour of phone time they found my original offer and had me all set up.

Strange but I thought I was all set at least. So today I call them to find my end contract date. Just want to make sure it's a year from now as I don't trust them. Tried 2 people and was put on long holds each time as they couldn't figure out what was going on with my account. They wouldn't tell me the problem. I couldn't wait so I just hung up.

My DTV still works find and I'm getting all the movie channels and ST is on my account. My guess is some thing is wrong on their side and I will be getting free DTV for life. :)

I told a buddy about it right after I did it. He says I still have 6 months on my contract. I told him it doesn't matter. He just shrugged his shoulders. I guess he is just lazy.

Customer since 1999/2000. I have had some great deals calling in "threatening" to cancel. My bill is 175 a month. We have every known channel ever made I think. I didn't even watch a full game of football this year, so the Sunday ticket was meh at best, and most shows I have to dvr to watch. I am serious about really cancelling Directv if I can get the wife on board. Over 2k a year on tv seems crazy to me.

what page is the script on??
Page 24.

Here it is again

Read the script below.

Call 1-800-531-5000

Get to retentions department

Confirm you are in retentions department

Don't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks out

Confirm cancellation date

Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 code

If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.

If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the email

You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet

If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system

No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again

You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start

If all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later

For those of you that have received the email - would you please cut and paste it here? That way anyone that hasn't received it, but need to fake it, can accurately quote from it. TIA

This script works like magic!

Nice job! The movie channels are by far the least important part of the deal.

Was anyone able to submit the $200 rebate online? I'm only getting the mail in offer.
Called again he said I will have to mail it in.

Also asked this guy what my contract end date is? He said 7/16/15 I have no idea why it didn't extend a year when I got this offer but I'll take it. He was even laughing about it. :)

Correct don't forget to cancel those suckers in 3 months as well.

I had to mail it snail mail as well.

Others on here had it done for them over the phone when they got the deal. That part appears to be variable based on what service rep you get.

I might be mistaken but I don't recall anyone getting the email. Most either got the phone call or called themselves.

Don't worry about what the email says though if you decide to call. If they ask, just say you already deleted it but it had the specific phone numbers and a code of NEWDEAL1. That should be more than enough to get going.

As the script says you might find resistance at this point but just follow the script and you should be ok.

I told an acquaintance and he flat out said "I don't believe you". His loss I guess.

God bless the FFA though! Another reason why this dysfunctional online family is really worth it :)

i had not received a phone call nor an email from them. i called the 877 number and informed them that "i missed a few calls from them during the day telling me that they appreciate my XX years of patronage and that i should ask about thier newdeal #1, which in includes $0-50 off per month, free ST max, $200 gift card, and free movie channels for 6 months."

i was put on hold twice and disconnected by the first guy (got him both times). third call got a gal that just gave it all right up. spent about 40 min on the phone, but worth the time.

1st call to the 800 number to cancel was sunday morning around 10a.

edit: they did not see me on their "list." part of what took so long on this call was them ensuring i get the deal, not being on the list yet.
