Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (1 Viewer)

I haven't received the call or email yet either. I will call either tonight or tomorrow after work to inquire about the deal1.
yahtzee!

edit:

1) ~$43 off per month

2) Free Sunday Ticket

3) Free HBO/Starz for 3 months

4) $200 gift card

5) -$10/month for 12 months on HD
So did you call? Tell us what you said, they said, etc.
i had not received a phone call nor an email from them. i called the 877 number and informed them that "i missed a few calls from them during the day telling me that they appreciate my XX years of patronage and that i should ask about thier newdeal #1, which in includes $0-50 off per month, free ST max, $200 gift card, and free movie channels for 6 months."

i was put on hold twice and disconnected by the first guy (got him both times). third call got a gal that just gave it all right up. spent about 40 min on the phone, but worth the time.
How long did you wait until you called the 877 number after you had set your cancel date?
1st call to the 800 number to cancel was sunday morning around 10a.

edit: they did not see me on their "list." part of what took so long on this call was them ensuring i get the deal, not being on the list yet.
cool thanks

I'm not quite getting what you're looking for here. But I did a move (with a 3 month interruption of service), and my account goes back to when I first signed up (2003).

I would avoid any mover's deals - since those are usually ones that a prime benefit would be to installation of the new dish. Since you already have that, I'd to with the script if that deal is what you are looking for.

.02
Thanks for the reply. My DTV account is listed under my former home. DTV did install for me at my current home, but we never updated the address. I wonder if when I ask to "move" that they will have record of doing an install for me 7-8 years ago at my correct and current address.

Equipment wise, what's the best stuff to have for the short term and the next few years? I've got a bunch of hr20 hd-dvrs and the 3 prong dish that was best for HD a long time ago. I'm guessing this stuff is pretty outdated.

I asked what the moving fee was and they said $19.95 and they install a new dish. Not sure if they surprise you with anything else, but you also get Sunday Ticket Max for the move. A friend of mine just did it.

Call 1-800-531-5000

Get to retentions department

Confirm you are in retentions department

Don't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks out

Confirm cancellation date

Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 code

If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.

If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the email

You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet

If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system

No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again

You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start

If all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later
For those of you that have received the email - would you please cut and paste it here? That way anyone that hasn't received it, but need to fake it, can accurately quote from it. TIA
I might be mistaken but I don't recall anyone getting the email. Most either got the phone call or called themselves.

Don't worry about what the email says though if you decide to call. If they ask, just say you already deleted it but it had the specific phone numbers and a code of NEWDEAL1. That should be more than enough to get going.

As the script says you might find resistance at this point but just follow the script and you should be ok.
Email was in my inbox less than 24 hours after cancelling.
Would you cut and paste it here?

Why are you all letting them call 3 or 4 times before answering? I don't see that as part of the script.
I did it because the first time I had no idea it was them calling me. Then when they called the 2nd time, I was in the middle of something. They call back a 3rd time shortly after the 2nd call and I answered that one.

Anyone on the entertainment package and still get the deal? I have a buddy whose going to try with that, but is skeptical. I have Choice Extra I believe.

I took 2 screenshots of the email as it's very tall. Here they are:

ETA: I got $43 off/12 months, Sunday Ticket Max and $200 gift card (even though it's not listed in the email). I also called before I realized I had received the email. If you have gmail, check your "Promotions" tab. That's where mine went.

Tks!

Just a heads up. i was told that they would disconnect for up to 24 hrs before they could have me in their system to give me the package, and that they would call me when it was reissued (with confirming eamil to follow). They did so around midnight. will see where things are when i get home tonight. but no surprises yet.

Push back on this. I was originally told that too, but when I was transferred to the account manager to go over my offer she told me that they would NOT disconnect my service. They'd simply add the deal to my account. So it's definitely possible.

this was last night. too busy at work to deal with this until this evening.

My wife's been buggin' about our hugh DTV bill... been meaning to do this.

Just got off the phone with them, set up the disconnect.

Now just gotta wait for the "BUT WAIT!" email or phone call.

Kinda sucks, though, that they suspend PPV access. I watch a few movies that way every month.

Getting $45 off, ST and a gift card would be badass. Throw in the movie channels, even better.

We'll see what happens.

Everyone should take a nano second and rep this post at the link below. If TheMeanMachine did not post the original link to the script, so many of us would have missed out on this great deal.https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?/topic/537834-can-you-negotiate-with-directv/?p=18043177
Done. Thought you had posted the script. Thanks TheMeanMachine.
I have reposted it a couple of times as the thread grows so that new people can find it.

My buddy just called, he was in the entertainment package, He actually upgraded to choice package, went from $60 to $70 a month, but they gave him Ticket Max, $200 GC and the movie channels.

No problem, I'm glad it's helped so many FBGs!

Used to be you could "call retention" and get your bill significantly lowered - now you need to go to the next step and actually schedule a discontinuation. Would not surprise me at all if soon they make you actually go through with the discontinuation before offering the good deals.

Yes. Happened to me. It is how I lost my referral credits.

I've been through at least 8 pages of this thread... maybe I missed it.... but has anyone posted the contents of the "DON'T GO!!" email? Is it basically just the other 800 number and the code? Will they know you're full of ish if you give them the wrong code?

Maybe just calling the number in a few days will work if I tell them I accidentally deleted the email or something like that... :oldunsure:

I would say it's more important to use the word "NEWDEAL 1" then to know every word in the email.

It comes down to if you are in the system for the deal or not. Or if they can get you into the system.

Just made the call from the script.

Confirmed I had retention dept, set cancel date for 2 weeks out (June 10th). She offered me half off HBO and Showtime for 6 months. I said no thanks. She then offered free Sunday Ticket. I said no thanks.

Found out Im under contract til November, so I have a $100 early cancellation charge (@ $20/month). I said fine since Ill be saving almost $100/month by switching to FIOS.

Got the whole "Youll need to send us equipment back, we will send you a prepaid label" blah blah blah.

Confirmed cut off date for June 10th. She said DTV will be there should I want to ever come back, and they'd give me a good price. we shall see.

End call. Now I wait. Will update progress.
Called less than 24 hours ago, and missed a call from an 877 number while I was in the shower an hour ago. Called it back and got the following:

$43 off/month

Free ST Max

$200 Gift Card

Bill goes from $138 to $79 (plus local taxes, I figure the new total should be $90-95)

I didnt bother asking about the movie channels, I have HBO and Showtime already and feel $43 off per month is good enough.

I DID have to bring up the gift card...he put me on hold for a minute and came back with the $200 card and said "The good thing is you dont have to go online or anything, it wall automatically come in 6-8 weeks".

I also had to commit to 12 months.

Thanks FBG FFA...yall have done it again...I wasnt even gonna bother trying for discounts this year after the hassle that was last year....glad I checked this thread again!

:hifive:

$40 off/month for 12 months - bill went from $124 to $84

free $200 Visa GC

Free movie stations 3 months

Very happy.

It does say on my email that the offer is through 5/27/2015. I would call ASAP if you haven't already.

:wall: man, i just called a few hours ago.... i wonder if they'll have a similar offer going after today

I'm tempted to call later this afternoon, even with only calling to set up the cancellation here this morning.

I had just switched our contact email from my wife's to mine.... maybe set it up by saying she got the email, gave me the number and told me the code.

I called Friday and set a cancellation date of 6/3. Didn't get a call or email but called the 877 number anyway. Told them I got the new deal email. Received $43 credit for 12 months and the $200 visa. I didn't haggle for Sunday Ticket or movie channels because I don't use them. Thanks dudes

she went through all the promos and whatnot i had received over the last year. it was a lot, including free ST  very little attempt to keep me. very nice lady

length of call 18 minutes

now we wait.
EASIEST. THING. EVER.

they called twice today. i picked up the 2nd time. the rep just laid it out, st max, $200 gift card, $43.50/mo and all movie channels for 3 months. i said nothing, but ok, mmm, alright. took maybe 2 minutes. he transferred me to someone else and they confirmed and i was done. time of call, maybe 8 minutes. so less than 30 minutes on the phone and less then 24 hour turn around time.

this may be the best thread in fbg history
