Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (2 Viewers)

I did a terrible job...so focused on the move was not even thinking about my normal August move. I basically led out saying I want to move and don't mind locking into a contract.

As it tends to get lost with so many pages, I'm posting the script for newbies that most here have found to work..

*note... some have found that they had to actually go through the cancellation before getting the deals, while others just the threat to cancel was enough :shrug:

Call 1-800-531-5000
Get to retention's department
Confirm you are in retention's department
Request a cancellation 2 weeks out - they might try to entice you with sweet deals.. But if it isn't what you should get politely refuse.and Confirm cancellation date
Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 855-407-3110 number and "BigDeal"
If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.

If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 855-407-3110 number anyway and tell them you received the email
You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet, If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system
No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again

You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start

 
Called to cancel, set the date for the 25th, before I got off the phone they offered Free Sunday Ticket Max with Redzone, and a $100 GC for a 12 month renewal.

Total bill will be $82 with 3 receivers for the next 6 months then drops to $38 once Football is over and has 3 month HBO and Showtime and I think I'm on the Entertainment package.

I was happy with it.

 
Just saw you guys were getting $200 giftcards, I only got offered $100, what a ripoff  :rant:

Wonder if I can call back at this point for a 2nd GC.  Even though I already agreed to the new 12 month contract..

 
Stay on top of your GC. They seem to have lost mine and after speaking to three people I ended up in the right department but the CSR computer had issues.

 
I just called 855 407 3110 and finally got through to someone.   He did the standard why did you cancel ordeal and let me see what we can offer you etc.  He then came back with "We have no offers for you at this time."  I asked if my account shows as fully disconnected and he said yes.

Why am I the only guy in here that has had zero success?  I swear I followed the script to a tee.

Just tell them you had a friend cancel two months ago and they called and offered the BigDeal.  and ask them why you aren't being offered that?

I told them I received big deal email.  I just called 866 284 2816, they told me my account is still pending cancelation until noon today.  They will call me at noon with supposed promotional offers.  Meanwhile, I have been without tv for a day and a half......

this is truly mind boggling after what I went through yesterday.  My online statement showed all the new activity and credits from yesterday when I checked last night, including the gift card,

I called ebcause I went here, clicked "Get started" and received a message saying I wasn't eligible.

After 2 calls and 5 people, I finally got a hold of retentions. They verfied that I was due for a gift card.  They said they are going to escalate it and I should hear from somebody in 3 to 5 business days.

Set my disconnect date two weeks out. Day after i did that i received the email. Called but wouldn't do anything until i actually disconnected so set me up that night with a call back with my offer next morning.

I called to set up disconnect for future date. I got the email either late that night or early the next day. 12 - 24 hours after call, well before diconnect

I never even got an email.  I was in retention department and telling them I want to set up a cancel date, she transferred me to someone else that just started throwing offers at me.  This was about 3-4 hours ago this morning.  My contract didn't even end til mid October and they waved the early termination fee and started me a new 1 year contract that starts tomorrow.

Easily the easiest experience I've had with DTV, and still no idea how it was that simple.

I don't see one on my online statement either... but I just did it this morning so who knows.  And my value was different ($100 v $200), so not sure if it's a different promo now then what you guys got earlier.

I reconnected on 8/11 and just received an email on 8/17 that I had to login and redeem my GC. Then 6-8 weeks. 

 
I have never had trouble in years past.  Apparently some idiot reactivated my account yesterday and again today when I called in, now showing disconnect for tonight.  Service out for 2 days though

 
Called to cancel.  Gave me same deal as I was already getting.  Current deal ends in 5 days.  Didn't know it but they finally offer att Internet in my neighborhood and it's half the price of what I pay freaking Comcast.  So 114 a month for dtv and Internet.  Waved $99 installation for Internet.  Free Sunday ticket.  And get this.  Contract still ends in 5 days and I don't have to sign a new contract on TV package.  Did have to sign 1 year contract on Internet.  Didn't have to cancel.  Didn't bother asking about gift card since they didn't out me through the cancelation deal or a contract. :moneybag:

I get the feeling the reason they're actually making people go through with the disconnection even though they never did in the past just so we'll all lose our longtime customer status. Then when we call next year, they'll know we're annual callers and they'll shut us down.

You are putting to much value on being a longtime customer. They don't care they just want another year commitment.

I've done this 3 years in a row now and have disconnected every year, thats how you get the max offer and usually pretty easily. I've never had a problem, loyalty doesn't matter to DTV. Keeping you as a customer when you say you are leaving, does...especially when lots of people are cutting the cord and they know they are charging way too much for TV. Luckily most people pay full price which allows DTV to give deals like this to us guys that know how to get the deal.

really interested to see how this plays out. Brand new contract, as of June.  Chick on the phone tried to get me to stay, but offered nothing. I mentioned the big deal, she was shuked. I said, cancel then. We shall see. I'm pretty happy with the above deal. I just want the $200 and STMAX and I really need new equipment.  In that order. :)~

 
called, first rep offered $40 off a month no contract.  $9 off sunday ticket with the max portion free.  plus i'm eligible for a free genie upgrade.  i declined.  i forgot to set a cancellation date, so i called back.  this guy gave me $50 off a month for 12 month with a one year contract and we downgraded my package, saving another $7/mo.  he said to call back once direct tv is on the bill and at the very least, i'll get what the other agent had offered.  so far so good.
God the quote system is ####ed on this board now a days

Maybe I'm calling too early, or just getting Noonaned. Service just shut down at midnight last night. No email. No calls to come back.

I called the 855 # just now and got stonewalled. "No offers for your account." Nothing. I then had them verify my account as being cancelled - apparently it was not showing that, so they changed it to showing cancelled as of tonight (wtf - it was shut off last night).

Hope I can wait this out the next couple of days. Wife and son = not happy.  :rant:

Crap... wrote the first one off as a fluke.. but now a 2nd person running into the same issue... :oldunsure: on my play on 8/24...

Each time you call and it's their fault something is wrong ask them if there's anything they can do for you. They failed to turn my service back on and messed it up and I asked if they could go to 12 months on new equipment. They said no but came back with an extra $30 off above everything else. Free money. If they did that three times in a row I would politely ask for more each time.

 
I am not sure I should call in today or just wait and see if they call me.  This is the 3rd straight day I received an email from Directv saying my service had been disconnected.   
Jesus, I feel like I owe you a beer somehow for how easy my transition was.  I never even had mine disconnected.  I wonder if I can find the lady's name that helped me and just have you call her directly.  It's gotta be an in email somewhere.

Does anyone know if Dish has the Redzone channel?  Is it basically the same thing as the Directv redzone channel?   I may have to switch to Dish.

Is it that hard to visit their web page?  That info is on the first page you see. You suck at this.  Can't wait til you call Dish and they turn you down.
