Dan McGwire was also pretty bad, but was not a can't miss prospect.Dan McGuireI remember people saying he was gonna be a better version of Dan Marino. He sucked.
Based on talent, Phillips may have been a can't miss, but his character issues should have made it pretty obvious that he was more of a probably will miss prospect. Of course, you have to love the competitive drive of a guy who will try to run over teenagers because of a dispute during a pickup football game.Lawrence Phillips, Rams
Art Schlichter, Colts
Johnny Rodgers, Chargers
Archie Griffin, Bengals
Keith McCants, Buccaneers
Would you guys consider Russell Erxleben a can't miss prospect? For a kicker to be drafted with the 11th pick of the 1st round, he had to be viewed as a "can't miss". Can't remember too many kickers ever taken with that high of a draft pick. His pro career was pretty dissapointing.
Solid only because the bar at that time was very very low. At the time just starting was considered a success. Steroids got him to the NFL but when he got there he sucked.FTRWRTR said:IMO he doesn't qualify because he came back to the NFL and had a few solid seasons with IndyTony Mandarich....
He actually played pretty good those yrs he started in Indy. Not Pro Bowl worthy of course, but a solid starting guard on an NFL team. I don't believe he belongs on this list. Yes he did not live up to expectations coming out of college, but he still managed to have a few solid yrs in Indy.Solid only because the bar at that time was very very low. I am a little confused about the definition of a "can miss" prospect. If you are quite stringent, does this year's draft have no "can't miss" prospects?I very much disagree with everyone's definition of "can't miss." You guys are basically listing busts. I think nearly all of these players had questions about them coming in.
At the time of his draft, I heard the Redskins were not interested in him becasue they viewed him as a safety. And this is a team that has shown no hesitation drafting safeties high. I think there were questions about Rolle at the time.Antrell Rolle

Where did you get a copy of the NFL teams draft boards? Just curious as that would be an interesting read.LHUCKS said:Marvelous said:At the time of his draft, I heard the Redskins were not interested in him becasue they viewed him as a safety. Marinovich was never considered a 'can't miss'. The rest of the league was stunned when Al took him as high as he did.Darren McFadden, ooops, I am getting a little ahead of myself. How about Todd Marinovich?![]()
Blair Thomas?KiJana Carter?Neither of them had much in the way of question marks coming into the league at all.Not Mandarich. He's was a once in a decade offensive lineman who had the perfect combination of size, strength and agility. Many said he should've been the #1 pick ahead of Aikman. Mandarich was definitely a can't miss prospect who missed badly.I very much disagree with everyone's definition of "can't miss." You guys are basically listing busts.
