"Can't Miss" Draft Prospects... (1 Viewer)

Lawrence Phillips, Rams

Art Schlichter, Colts

Johnny Rodgers, Chargers

Archie Griffin, Bengals

Keith McCants, Buccaneers
Based on talent, Phillips may have been a can't miss, but his character issues should have made it pretty obvious that he was more of a probably will miss prospect. Of course, you have to love the competitive drive of a guy who will try to run over teenagers because of a dispute during a pickup football game.

Would you guys consider Russell Erxleben a can't miss prospect? For a kicker to be drafted with the 11th pick of the 1st round, he had to be viewed as a "can't miss". Can't remember too many kickers ever taken with that high of a draft pick. His pro career was pretty dissapointing.

:wall: I was going to mention him as well.

Tony Mandarich....
IMO he doesn't qualify because he came back to the NFL and had a few solid seasons with Indy
Solid only because the bar at that time was very very low. At the time just starting was considered a success. Steroids got him to the NFL but when he got there he sucked.
He actually played pretty good those yrs he started in Indy. Not Pro Bowl worthy of course, but a solid starting guard on an NFL team. I don't believe he belongs on this list. Yes he did not live up to expectations coming out of college, but he still managed to have a few solid yrs in Indy.

I very much disagree with everyone's definition of "can't miss." You guys are basically listing busts. I think nearly all of these players had questions about them coming in.
I am a little confused about the definition of a "can miss" prospect. If you are quite stringent, does this year's draft have no "can't miss" prospects?

Antrell Rolle
At the time of his draft, I heard the Redskins were not interested in him becasue they viewed him as a safety. And this is a team that has shown no hesitation drafting safeties high. I think there were questions about Rolle at the time.

Mike Williams (WR) was Kiper's TOP pick on his big board . . . Hoge was ripped by everyone on ESPN's set for dissing Williams . . .

Call me a biased dynasty owner (go ahead) but Matt Leinart can't be a considered a bust ... yet. He'll probably start for the next two years with the new offense and that'll be more telling than losing the starting job to a seasoned veteran who's previously won a Super Bowl.

My bust votes go to:

Troy Williamson, #7 pick in 2005 - BOOM!

Joey Harrington, #3 pick in 2002 - KAPOW!!

David Terrell, #8 pick in 2001 - BAM!

Akili Smith, #3 pick in 1999 - WTF??!?!?!?

:thumbup:Guy was top 10 on almost everyones draft board...didn't even start last year.BUST!!
Where did you get a copy of the NFL teams draft boards? Just curious as that would be an interesting read.

Not Mandarich. He's was a once in a decade offensive lineman who had the perfect combination of size, strength and agility. Many said he should've been the #1 pick ahead of Aikman. Mandarich was definitely a can't miss prospect who missed badly.
Blair Thomas?KiJana Carter?Neither of them had much in the way of question marks coming into the league at all.
