Car Guys - need a diagnosis on a bad sounding engine (1 Viewer)

Explorer is right around 5K towing.  What do you have that is 5500+ lbs?

my fictional boat with trailer, gas and gear is around 4800 lbs.  and so i've never felt comfortable with the idea of a 5000 lb. towing capacity SUV..  figured I needed a spare 700-1000 pounds to feel comfortable.

Makes sense.  90% of the SUV market in unibody construction now, and limits towing capacity.  I'm driving a 2017 Expedition - it could handle it.  It also get 15.6 mog and stickered for over $65K.  I'm getting an F150 in September - really looking forward to that truck.  If you don't need a 3rd row seat it is the perfect vehicle.

Yes, this is the problem.   When I've shopped for SUV's i've always been disappointed.   It felt like I either needed a Dodge Durango (but i hate the idea of Dodge),  a huge hulking thing like a Expedition or Tahoe,  or something super expensive like a Lexus GX460 or Land Cruiser or Range Rover or something that of course I don't want to afford.

Does it have to be an SUV?

My friend picked up a nice USED Toyota Tundra that is bad ###. I'm not sure how much it tows but I'm sure it's quite a bit.

no, i'm just not a pickup guy and i have 2 kids so i need a nice back seat..  tundras are yuuuge

i'd get a sequoia before that.. it's yuuge also i suppose tho

2004 Trailblazer.

Started sounding pretty bad at idle from the belt/fan system.. car is running good, but i've been driving this car 13 years so I know when it sounds weird.

Anyone have any thoughts on if I'm over-reacting or if there's an impending problem I need to address?

Sorry for the low res video,  my phone sucks..  the audio is what's important though.

Thanks in advance.
Not seeing a video - but if it sounds like a jet engine taking off, it'll be the fan clutch.

2 daughters - both with Trailblazers, 2003 and 2007.  Bought them both the same vehicle since I know that motor pretty well.

That's one that I actually took it in for.  ~800.

Those inline 6's are rock solid engines.  Little stuff here and there, but the fan clutch and the rack were two that I took it in to the mechanic for.

When you retire, will you enrich your life with creature comforts such as a car manufactured within the last dozen years and a phone that can record decent video?

i told you i had it on the wrong setting when recording..  the phone is a name brand samsung..  it's an s4 mini, it's not awesome, but not complete garbage.

As for the car, I feel like I won't care when I'm that old,  I barely care now

nice car, no towing power.

I need something that tows at least 5500 lbs.. and most SUV's don't have that capability anymore
My next vehicle will be a Dodge ram diesel crew cab. That engine is bullet proof and will tow anything easily. If you put a bullydog chip in it, it's faster than virtually all production cars.

Wait until it is out of warranty before you chip it.  The Cummins inline 6 is a puller.
