Car Guys. What is going on here? (1 Viewer)

can't get it out of park...
is there a little plastic cover next to the shifter. You pry off this cover to access the little button that lets you shift out of park

or make sure you have power before shifting.  Not sure how toyota work but I need to put my car into "accessory" mode to get the sifter to work if the car is not running

Sorry to spoil your fun, but it's not like I was fixing it even if you had diagnosed it, I just wanted to know what the hell it was

DO YOU NOT OWN JUMPER CABLES?

WHAT A TRAVIS MONKEY
I do have cables...but nothing to jump from at the moment.  And frankly, I had no idea that it was the battery with that sound.  I would have expected crickets if battery was dead.  Everything else electrically in the car was working fine.

Push-button ignitions are really finicky with low batteries.  My last car was an LR2, and if the battery was low, it'd throw all sorts of error messages and make clicking noises and just generally sound like it was dying.  Every time I was convinced it was the CPU board going out or something.  It would display Transmission Faults, O2 sensor errors, all sorts of things.  My wife's RDX did something similar.  In both cases, charge or replace the battery, and it was fine.

It's likely not dead, just too low for the car to let the push-button start actually try and turn it over.

Basically there is not enough juice to turn the starter over.  You should buy one of these Jump Starter to have around the house.  Cheap peace of mind.  I keep one in the trunk so that i don't have to pop my hood if i am helping others.

I am still confused by the OP. The car was actually driving and just died? I didnt know a dead battery would do that.
Sounds like the battery was weak but strong enough to start the truck the first time when he moved it a short bit, he then turned the truck off and when he tried to re-start the truck the battery didn't have enough juice for the second start

The battery should charge in 15-20 minutes of regular use.  If this is not happening it is your alternator.

I am not a car person, but this is the 1st thing I thought of, because it is the only thing I have ever helped replace on my truck.

This is the case with my Genesis as well. Weird electrical gremlins surfaced once when my battery was low.

***HIJACK***

bought a new (to me) car 2 years ago. put about 15k miles on it.

when i filled the tank the very first time the meter read 408 miles. that number has ticked down over time to when i filled up this morning and it read 371 miles. the last... many times i have filled up that number was floating somewhere between 385 - 395.

no problems with the car (yet) other than this mysterious deterioration in the number of miles the meter says i can drive on a full tank.

only thing that has really changed is the temps.  we went from 75 two weeks ago to 9 degrees this morning. does the cold weather impact mpg that much??

Weather does.. also blend of gas.. they use a different blend of gas for Winter and doesn't get as good of mileage as the Summer blend.
