Cardinals name Warner Starter (1 Viewer)

Here's your link and story: Warner starts - Cardinals Site

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Saturday that Kurt Warner will be the team’s starting quarterback for the regular-season opener Sept. 7 in San Francisco.

Warner, who threw for 27 touchdowns in 2007 after taking over for an injured Matt Leinart, completed 12-of-17 passes in the preseason for 142 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions and a passing rating of 95.7. Leinart, playing significantly more, completed 28-of-45 passes for 354 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions and a passing rating of 73.8.

Leinart looked OK in three of the four preseason games, but struggled mightily in the third game against Oakland, throwing three interceptions.

He rebounded against Denver in the final preseason game and Whisenhunt praised Leinart for responding to adversity.

Yet Warner, who has a more defined track record, got the call.

so who has the stats/facts handy? Has Warner thrown more total balls to Fitz or Boldin? Who has most yards? TD?

ProfootballTalk is saying it's official.

It’s official: Kurt Warner is the Cardinals’ starting quarterback.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said he chose Warner over Matt Leinart because Warner “gives us the best chance to win.”

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has been reporting that Leinart would win the job, but Whisenhunt had previously denied those reports, saying no decision had been made. Now Whisenhunt has made his decision, and it’s the old man, not the 2006 first-round draft pick.

It’s hard to see how anyone could dispute that Warner gives the Cardinals the better chance to win. He’s been better in the preseason, and he was much better in 2007.

thanks Ken for making "official" what anyone with half of a brain has known for the last two weeks.

Big thanks to Mort for breaking the news early, pissing Whisenhunt off enough to delay naming a starter, allowing many of us to get Warner much later in the draft than we otherwise could have.

I got both Brandon Marshall and Kurt Warner way below their true value in the same draft and the good news surrounding both of them this week has me doing the banana dance. :peanutbutterjellydance:

Huge news for Warner, Boldin and Fitz owners.

With Warner playing against SF in week 1....Cutler and Hasselbach are definetly going to the bench.

I like Kurt for 320 yds and 2 tds in week 1

As much as I hate early draft's (had one last Sunday), being able to get Warner as my backup in the 11th was a blessing. Oh yeah, Perry in the 10th as well has made my day. Now, I have to deal with a few of my sleepers gone come Tuesday.
