Carson Palmer - Michael Floyd (2 Viewers)

Sorry if this is being discussed elsewhere and I missed it.

I read recently on CBS that it looks like Palmer is slated to play this week. Wanted to check in with Arizona locals to see how "true" those reports are.

Also, what kind of bump do you all think that gives Michael Floyd this week. It seems like he's been inconsistent but with Palmer in there and Washington's defense being a lot better against the run than the pass, it seems like Floyd could have a decent day.

Thoughts?

Local guy (Jurecki) was saying yesterday Palmer was throwing no more than soft 5-10 yard tosses yesterday and he'd be surprised if he played. He's flying to Denver to see the nerve guy today so we won't get anything else out of practice. Stanton will get the final test today for his concussion. He's been throwing.

So, Palmer being "slated" is way too strong a word right now.

Thank you for the update. That helps a lot!

Thoughts on what that does to Floyd's production? I know nothing about Thomas. Will he force the ball to his first read? Will he just go with short quick passes?

Just based on Floyd's up and down performances this season with different QBs, I would sit unless you don't have a better option. I have to start 2 WRs and a WR Flex and will be going with: Julius Jones, Percy Harvin, and Mohammed Sanu. Not a superstar lineup past Jones but I have more confidence in Harvin and Sanu to at least deliver decent points. Floyd to me is a wild card without Palmer.

At least Floyd has the wingspan to catch the awful throws. He will look at his first read and then start running around. Sometimes in circles, sometimes towards the 1st down marker. As a Brown owner, I am looking elsewhere for my #3 WR this week. Brown's only chance at big stats are a broken play resulting in no one covering Brown deep and a huge TD.

My hope is Arians taught Logan what a pocket was this week and how to step up in it

Wow..that is a fairly damming assessment. I guess the bigger question for us gambing-types is does Washington actually have a chance to win this week if Logan starts. Take the under I guess...

If Thomas starts, Washington will win. Too many injuries for the Cards they need a competent QB and Logan is 2 years away from that.

Good info. I read a couple of blurbs that Carson threw 40-50 balls the other day and felt fine. The blurbs didn't specify what type of throws they were (downfield, deep outs etc). I was really hoping Palmer would play this week and Floyd would capitalize against the Washington Def.

Carson Palmer Friday update from Rotoworld:

Carson Palmer "lobbed, emphasize lobbed" passes of roughly 35 yards during the portion of Cardinals practice open to the media on Friday, according to the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers.
Palmer also "lined up with the first team." Somers, however, admits he has no idea what it meant in regard to Arizona's Week 6 quarterback situation. Drew Stanton (concussion) was also at practice. We suspect coach Bruce Arians will leave this up to a game-time decision in Sunday's 4:25PM ET meeting with Washington. Arians is expected to speak after Friday's practice. Oct 10 - 2:24 PM

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Friday that Carson Palmer (shoulder, questionable) is throwing "at about 80 percent" and "had some decent velocity" on his practice throws.
It sounds like the Cards haven't ruled out the idea of starting Palmer Sunday against the Redskins, but he'd have to show a pretty significant amount of improvement in a short period of time to get the nod. "Honest to God, for the first time in 20 years, I really don’t know who’s starting," coach Bruce Arians said. Hopefully we'll get some answers Saturday or on Sunday morning.

At least it appears that the Cards will not have to go with Logan Thomas this week, which bodes well for us Cards WR owners....

Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton has been cleared to play Sunday, according to Fox Sports 910.

Stanton has been dealing with a concussion. He was reportedly cleared by doctors Friday, and it appears he'll be able to play Sunday. Stanton was able to put in limited work in practice during the week.

Rotoworld:

Drew Stanton (concussion) has been fully cleared to play in Sunday's game against the Redskins.
One piece of the Cardinals' quarterback puzzle for Sunday is now solved, but we still have a ways to go. Carson Palmer (shoulder) remains a true game-time call for a game that doesn't kick until 4:25pm ET Sunday. Logan Thomas took the majority of first-team reps at practice this week. Oct 10 - 10:14 PM

It doesn't sound like Arians is being honest at all. Or maybe it's wishful thinking? Until Palmer gets a couple of sustained practices under him, there's no way he's starting with Stanton cleared from his concussion, unless he goes into full panic mode.

Can we trust Stanton to Floyd?

I know it worked out great against the Niners in Game 3 (5 catches 114 yards) but it was terrible in Game 2 (1 catch 19 yards) and Stanton played into the 3rd quarter of Game 4 (1 catch 7 yards).

I guess hard not to play Floyd given the matchup at home versus Washington whether we trust Stanton or not. He isn't Logan Thomas and that's enough.

WHY would you say something like that? This was Friday afternoon before Stanton was cleared from concussion protocol and in Arians mind any of the three could and would be the starter. Palmer did throw in practice then got on a plane for another treatment in Denver and will be back for the walkthrough today. I suspect they are hoping he feels good enough Sunday to give it a go and if that is the case I suspect all three will be active. IF Palmer can't go it is not clear whether they start Stanton or Thomas - I could see them wanting to start Thomas see if he is good enough to beat Washington and give Stanton another week off or feel they need to get Stanton in the game. Obviously if all three are active and Palmer feels good in warmups he will start but Arians was being truthful at the point he made that statement - he didn't know who would be starting or even who would/will be active (The plan if Stanton wasn't cleared and Palmer couldn't go was to activate Dennis Dixon off the practice squad as the emergency backup to Thomas).
