ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Carson Palmer's (questionable, elbow) status for Sunday's game against Cleveland won't be known for sure until pre-game warmups.

From Rotoworld:

Mort says the injury stems from contact, despite Palmer claiming otherwise, and that the elbow is swollen. It's strange, then, that Palmer was able to practice without limitation on both Wednesday and Thursday. Mort says Palmer could be yanked early if the elbow gives him trouble, or Ryan Fitzpatrick could start the game. Palmer is a risky fantasy play, but we'd use him if he's active. Sometimes you've got to risk big to win big and the matchup against Cleveland's banged up defense is ideal.

Palmer insists he's a go Sunday

Quarterback rests sore elbow

Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was added to the official injury report Friday as questionable, with a sore elbow, for Sunday against the Browns but said he will play.

"It was just a rest day," Palmer said Friday after practice. "I'm completely confident in what we're doing. The doctors decided the best thing to do was to be rested and fully healthy for Sunday, and I'll be ready to roll on Sunday."

He was sacked six times by the Giants in the overtime loss and has been sacked nine times and hit many more times this season. Was the injury caused by contact?

"This is just some soreness, but it will be fine by Sunday. It's from throwing," Palmer said.

Is it from overuse?

"Possibly," he said.

A questionable designation on the injury report means Palmer is technically 50-50 to play. During the week, the Bengals said in a press release, Palmer experienced soreness and inflammation in his right elbow (throwing elbow).

Said coach Marvin Lewis: "Carson has developed some carryover soreness from last week's game. He has told us he's going to be ready to play, but he (missed) some practice reps today, so he has to be listed on the injury report."

Bengals | Week 4 Inactives

Sun, 28 Sep 2008 08:44:54 -0700

The Cincinnati Bengals have declared WR Andre Caldwell, QB Carson Palmer, SS Dexter Jackson, SS Herana-Daze Jones, DL Jason Shirley, CB Johnathan Joseph, RB Kenny Watson, DL Pat Sims inactive for Week 4.

Fitzgerald's only career starts came when he was a rookie, so don't let that scare you off. He's been with Cincy for 2 years, he knows the offense, and he played well in preseason. He's the classic backup QB -- knows the system, doesn't make a lot of mistakes, but also doesn't throw a lot of TDs.

I think 200/1/1 is a safe bet, maybe 2 TDs but nothing more.

Fitzgerald played very well during the preseason with the second team, but liked to pull the ball down and run frequently. If he gets protection, TJ should be fine. We've all seen what a lack of chemistry does to Chad Johnson on timing routes, so this isn't great for him. Expect the Bengals to try to establish the run, then work in some underneath routes, including Perry and Utecht (who's active after practicing all week).

Exactly what I'm expecting as well. He can be sneaky on the scramble as well... I'd throw in about 30 rushing yards as well.

Any info on the chances that Palmer will be playing by next week?
Jake Delhomme's injury last year was an elbow and he started out week-to-week as well. Any chance Palmer is facing the same scenario here?
Anything is possible -- the Bengals reported Rich Braham's career-ending tibia fracture as a bone bruise for most of a full season, Chris Perry's dislocated ankle as a fibula fracture, Ahmad Brooks' torn groin as a week-to-week strain, etc, etc. We just learned that Dexter Jackson has screws in his thumb three weeks later.I don't think there's anything too crazy here -- Palmer practiced Wed/Thurs and apparently suffered the injury during the game last week -- but it's always interesting to see how a Bengal injury plays out.

I was just going to post that.
Didn't Delhomme have that "Tommy John" surgery? Clearly I don't know much about that surgery but it's always been "big news" when someone had it. Because of that, I'd guess no to Carson having the same prob

FitzPATRICK has looked good each time I've seen him. I've been wonderring why Martz didn't make a play for him in Det or SF for a while now.

I'm grrr about the Carson news but excited to see Ryan play.

Crazier things have happenned than a backup QB rejuvenating an offense. STL and CIN could perk up a bit this week. I'm not saying permanently replace the starter or go on that tangent, just...it might give them a little pep today

I don't think the cincy news outlets coverred this well then
If you've ever caught one of Marvin's press conferences, you'd give the news outlets some more slack.Marvin spends most of the time chuckling at his own wisecracks and berating anyone and everyone who dares suggest that perhaps he and his staff should take some of the blame for their horrendous performance.
