Carson Palmer = Value in redraft? (1 Viewer)

but you can get a top 10 QB in the 10th round.

btw, who do you have in mind for this year?my usual drafting strategy is to wait as long as possible for qbs, so i'm curious who you're looking at.
Warner, Bledsoe, or Brad Johnson in the hizzie!!!
of those three, i'd say Johnson has the best chance of flying under the radarWarner just got Edge, and Blesoe just got T.O.
I still think guys that you could pick up later. How about McNair?

are we just naming QBs at random now?

McNair doesn't even really have a team.

I seriously doubt Plummer is undervalued this year.

Carr maybe, but probably more as depth with possible upside.

Brunell might be a good one. But how high is his upside?

I mentioned Plummer because his 2005 numbers (3366/18/7) have much less fantasy sizzle than his 2004 numbers (4089/27/20). If his 2006 numbers are somewhere in between, he may indeed be undervalued in drafts this year.

fair enough. i just wanted to get some discussion going.in general, i find QBs who were in the playoffs last year to be overvalued in my drafts.

what changes do you see that Plummer will improve on last years #s?

Carson Palmer is John Elway minus the wheels. Palmer has the best arm I have seen since Elway played. I don't see the Bengals rushing out to get a QB to replace Jon Kitna as his backup...so I wouldn't be overly concerned here. I expect Palmer to start the 2006 season and this makes him (at worst) a 4th round pick in redrafts. :banned:
So you ignore injury risk completely?
As of right now I would say you have to. Now if you are involved in a redraft next month and Palmer has a setback, and this leads to the Bengals getting a Joey Harrington or another QB with NFL starting experience, then you obviously must reconsider. But for right now, follow suit with what Cincy is doing here and ignore the risk. The Bengals are currently a playoff team with Super Bowl aspirations. They would be foolish as an organization to pass (NPI) on getting a QB if they had any doubts about Palmers ability to start the season healthy...
Why do I have to? It's a very serious injury even for a QB and something that could get re-injured very easily if he's not careful. Cincy is certainly not ignoring the risk and they will sign a veteran QB, most likely Harrington. If you really think there's any chance of the Bengals going into 2006 with Krentzel and Doug Johnson as the top backups you are out of your mind.

Obviously they will sign another QB...but the point being made is that if they had any doubts about Palmer right now, then they would have already went after and acquired a Harrington. The difference implied between signing a Harrington versus a Jamie Martin or Tommy Maddox is huge when applied to the Carson Palmer injury factor.

How many games is Palmer going to miss?

The only thing head coach Marvin Lewis can tell potential signees and their agents is that he believes Palmer will be back for the opener, but that he’s not sure, the team has to have protection, and Palmer is the guy no matter how good the other guy’s start is.
No one is denying that Palmer should return to 100% eventually, but it may not be this year. Whoever they sign is going to have to understand that it's basically a one year deal unless they want to remain a backup. Harrington is likely because he could use the job to audition for a starting job somewhere else in 2007.
