Cassel - Cracked rib (1 Viewer)

Per Nick Wright on 610 sports in KC. Todd Haley is going to catch even more flak for using week 4 instead of week 3 of the preseason to run his starters out for most of the game. This can't be good for Bowe or Charles if true.

Chiefs look like a mess. I'm glad I have no part of them on my fantasy team. Haley is going to scuttle the 2011 season before it starts. Losing their starting TE and injuring the starting QB in a meaningless week 4 preseason game is ridiculous. Haley won't last the entire season.

Cassel should play week 1 vs the Bills, I'd guess with a jacket. They are just going to feed Charles, Jones and Mcculster, 40 times vs the Bills.

I avoided the stank of Todd Haley's Chiefs in all leagues but one, where I have Cassel as a backup. It's gonna be entertaining watching this circus over the course of the season.

I'd think very few are starting Cassel so this is more about Bowe and JC. The Bills aren't a great team but I think JC isn't going to get MORE touches although they may run more ... with McCluster, McClain, and TJones. It likely means less scoring opps barring a long run against a DEF less likely to fear the pass.

So let me get this straight. The QB1 is hurt, so the Chiefs are going to run the ball more, but not with their best RB, but with a scatback, FB, and a 33-year old guy past his prime? Actually, since Haley is the coach, you may be right.

ESPN and Sports Illustrated both report Monday that Chiefs QB Matt Cassel will likely play in Week 1 against Buffalo despite dealing with a potential broken rib, which he suffered in the final preseason game at Green Bay. While neither report cites an official source from the team, Sports Illustrated columnist Peter King writes "I think I'd be very surprised if Matt Cassel doesn't start Sunday despite his bruised or broken ribs. That's a pain tolerance thing, and I'm sure Cassel will fight the doctors to let him play."

Chiefs coach Todd Haley characterized Matt Cassel's (rib) participation in Monday's practice as "full," strongly indicating that the quarterback will start Week 1 against the Bills.

Cassel will play through a cracked rib. While it's a positive that the Chiefs won't have to trot out Tyler Palko or rookie Ricky Stanzi, the game plan should remain heavily run-oriented. Buffalo annually fields one of the league's worst rush defenses, and it wouldn't make sense for K.C. to put Cassel in harm's way more than necessary. Expect big doses of Jamaal Charles on Sunday.

Matt was just on 810 WHB radio here in KC. He said he is 100% with no pain and no lingering effects at all and is ready to go for Week 1.
