Cedric Peerman, Detroit Lions RB (1 Viewer)

I'm looking for opinions and insight into the potential (if any) value of RB Cedric Peerman now that he is with the lowly Detroit Lions. With Kevin Smith's knees, and the Lions lack of depth at all positions, does anybody think he has a shot to stay on the squad and contribute? Is he a great sleeper candidate?

I seem to recall lots of love for him last year coming out of college. All shark opinions welcome. Bloom? Lammey? Waldman? What is the consensus?

Doubt it. I was intrigued by his size/speed combo when he was a draft prospect, but he fell deep into the draft and was cut by two teams. I just don't think these organizations would've been so quick to let him go if they had felt he had a real future in the NFL.

I doubt Mo Morris returns, so unless the Lions draft or sign a free agent, I think Aaron Brown would be the guy to gamble on.

I think he's a nice hold at least through TC in 2010...

According to excellent Lions' reporter Tom Kowalski on Jan 6:

Running back

The Lions likely will try to upgrade their No. 1 spot, but they like Kevin Smith and Aaron Brown in backup roles. Fullback Jerome Felton will have to show improvement in camp.

* Who's in: Smith, Brown

* Who's on the bubble: Maurice Morris, Felton
No mention was made of Peerman, who was added after Smith went down but never got into a game. I suspect he'll go onto their practice squad. I added him in a couple leagues when he landed on the DET roster but have since dropped him. At this time I can't see him as anything more than a remote sleeper possibility.

I think Ryan Grant was cut several times by a few teams, before finding a place in GB.

He was signed as an UFA by NYG, spent time on their practice squad, then traded to GB....

Giants signed him as an undrafted FA, spent 05 on the prac. squad, missed 06 with a non-football related injury, then traded in 07 for a 6th round pick. IIRC the Giants quite liked Grant, but had Tiki in his early years/Jacobs, who had shown a lot as a backup and had just drafted Bradshaw, with Droughns a supposedly capable depth player. We had been carrying Ward since 04 as well.Fair to say Grant was just in the wrong place, competition wise.

Nope.Grant was signed out of Notre Dame as a UDFA by the Giants in '05. He didn't make their roster so he was waived and immediately placed on their practice squad. He stayed there until he went on their non-football injury list in '06 (IIRC, he cut his hand in a bar.. maybe a fight? Not sure). Grant was really liked by the Giants. They thought he'd either play for them at some point or have some trade value. They were right. From there he was traded to the Packers for a 6th round pick a couple games into the '07 season.

ETA - I was out-quicked by not one but two guys.

More specifically, why would Maurice Morris not return? He signed for 3 years last season. With Smith likely out for the start of the season, it seems they would want him around still.

I have never seen anyone getting so much "juice" based on nothing. Poor Rashard Lee is probably rolling over in his grave right now...

Peerman keeps getting signed quickly by other teams after release.

There's something that makes them want to give him a test drive, but there's also something that makes them give up at some point.

Don't know if the flaw is his, or if he's simply had bad luck with the numbers game.

If the former, what is that flaw?

...Seems like a nice all-around RB.

Just waived by detroit yesterday, Waldman have you given up on him yet?
LOL - Looking pretty grim right now, but not yet.
He gets one more training camp imho, he hasn't gotten a chance to show whether he's improved yet or not. He only got released by Detroit because they drafted Best.
:lmao: And they drafted Best because Peerman stinks.
They drafted Best because he could be great, Peerman didn't have anything to do with it.

I'll be watching camp this summer. If he sticks with Cincy when my drafts roll around, I might stick him on the end of the bench.

Not a whole lot of proven talent there after Benson and he'll play special teams so I think he might stick. Could still get COP touches if Benson goes down even if B.Scott looks serviceable.

He could be one of those "injury away" guys that shines when given the chance. IIRC, he's one of those high character guys so I'm rooting for him.

He may yet prove to be great; how many years did it take Austin to show his stuff? Harrison? Priest Holmes? But the reality is that his value for this year is so low that he isn't worth owning. Let him sit on waivers and if there are injuries then pick him up.

I never understood the hype surrounding this guy. He was NOT a great college running back. My opinion is that he was a multi-dimensional type guy who could do a lot of things okay, but nothing particularly great and wasn't overly explosive on the field.

He had a excellent 40 yard at the combine which many people held in higher regard than his college career.
