Chad Johnson to the Bucs? (1 Viewer)

Anyone heard the rumor that the Bucs are talking to the Bengals about acquiring C Johnson? Someone at my work said its on NFL.com but I figured if it was there it would have been mentioned here...

I have no link.

Haven't heard it, but if anything at all were to happen with Chad, IMO it'd be with the Bucs who desperately need a #1 WR and have tons of cap space.

The Bucs were helpless on offense vs. the Giants with a banged up Galloway and you can't expect him to continue to play at the high level he has for very much longer.

chad could possibly lead the league in receptions again if this would happen. when Jeff was throwing to TO years ago he like set records for targets to TO. Jeff is a good west coast QB but if he does have a elite Wr he will lock onto them and throw to them allday.

That was when Garcia was in his EARLY 40's.

This is only my speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Bill Parcells dangle that No.1 to the Bengals as part of a trade offer that includes Chad. The only concern would be if Bill sees Chad as a TO-type; if so, never mind.

Chad is not that bad. He gets an incredibly bum rap. Guy practices and plays harder than 99% of the league.
I don't doubt that one bit, but you have to take his other garbage with the package.Ex: Putting on the yellow "Future HoF" jacket on the opening Monday night was a total bush league move.

But on a more positive spin he would take a whole lot of media attention off Vince Young.

i thought it was fun :hophead:
I can't stand any player who draws so much attention to himself. Let him go out and play 1-on-11 if he feels it's all about him.

Do you watch any Cincy games? CJ quit on his team NUMEROUS times this year. He is always pouting on the sidelines if he is not the focal point of the offense. He reminds me of another Bengals WR from a few years ago that wanted to leave and was so "unappreciated." How did that work for you CARL PICKENS?Hopefully CJ comes to Tampa with a case of Pepto for Gruden.

He looked like a complete idiot. Then as the season went on, his clown act week 1 stuck out like a sore thumb and he knew it.

I don't think CJ thinks it is all about him. The players know him and like him and don't have a problem with his stuff. It's the fans that don't know him that have problems with him. He's just having fun and making the game more entertaining for us fans. The dude's one of my favorite players because he talks trash and has fun with it...like when he sent Pepto to the Browns' defensive backs. Those guys weren't pissed. They thought it was funny because that's just who Chad is. Then they went out and shut his butt down!

Garcia can ball, folks. I seem to remember CJ doing just fine for us fantasy players with Kitna at the helm. And I put Garcia above Kitna every time. Garcia can scramble and buy time...time for CJ to slip deep and get some nice breakdown production.

The only problem with CJ is the same problem Moss has, and to a much greater extent TO. These guys all hate to lose so much that they tailspin when their team is tanking. I don't know what went wrong in Cincy this year, but CJ could make the Bucs offense SCARY. Imagine CJ and Galloway stretching the field on both sides. Open things up for Graham and whichever of the 18 above-average tight ends the Bucs have in the lineup that day. Then all they would need is for Gruden to keep them from underachieving and it's lights out.

The aura of negativity surrounding Chad really gets on my nerves. All of his "antics" are seemingly in good fun in an attempt to entertain. CJ is an amazing football player and I think some people forget how consistently great he's been for 7 seasons.Following his rookie year, his "worst" season was 1166 and 5 in his sophomore campaign. Since then, Chad has never done worse than 1274 yards and 7 TD's while playing in EVERY single game since 2002. That's right, he hasn't missed one game since his rookie year. I don't see how people can paint him in a negative light as being detrimental to his team. This guy is a model of consistency. If Tampa can trade for CJ I would be ecstatic. Then make an attempt at signing a DT, Albert Haynesworth would be nice if he doesn't get franchised, then throw some money at Michael Turner, and the Bucs could be looking at making a run in the NFC. I'm wondering what Cincinnati would requre in a trade for Chad. A 2nd rounder and a player?

my main problem with chad is that he absolutely disappears in big games and racks up a bunch of stats in 2 or 3 games that don't really matter.

Nah. He's just a competitor who doesn't like losing. Maybe that rubs some fans the wrong way, but most fans (and coaches) want that hunger in a player.

Bill Belichick has gone on record saying that Chad is one of his favorite players in the league. Don't think Bill likes cocky arrogant players by any stretch of the imagination. I think that's more of a ringing endorsement for Chad than anything else that could be said.

Bucs fan here...and would love it.

I also like the rumors circulating re: the Bucs and WR...sounds like Gruden is going to get a spark for that offense...and any of CJ, Fitz, Stallworth, RoyW, etc...would certainly provide that.

They were certainly interested in the other C.J. in the draft last year but just couldn't make it happen. This team seems well aware of how much better the offense could be w/ another legitimate WR.

And that 1 % of the league might include Terrel Owens. No one is questioning Johnson's (nor Owens') work ethic. I am questioning his effect on a team, chemistry wise. The guy is not a team player. Gruden would be smart not to make any offers. It was cool with MArvin Lewis when Johnson selfishly cost his team 15 yards by doing "hey! look at me!" dances in the endzone, I don't think Gruden want's that.

As a fan, I enjoy his antics. They are not malicious or degrading. As a team owner/GM/coach, I'd like to include a clause that suspends him for the following game & paycheck if he is hit w/ a celebration penalty.

Yeah, I'm not seeing anything here other than some guy thinking out loud.
Exactly. And now Chad to the Bucs possibility is somehow a "rumor". Just a name a reporter put into his story.
