Thanks Fat Uncle Jerry Buss!
We were hoping to get $1,500 for the Gibbons guitar, even though it's worth a fair amount more, because it appeals to a fairly narrow group of individuals and we didn't know who would be there. There was a bidding war and it ended up going for $7,000!Awesome on the Gibbons guitar. One of those moments that I wish I was a normal FBG with infinite meansOur first big fundraising event will be on April 23 in Houston - the Chance for Hope 80s Prom Party, featuring a performance by The Spazmatics.
Here is one of the items that will be auctioned off: Gibbons Guitar
If you're in or around the Houston area, mark your calendars for April 23rd. It's going to be a lot of fun (i.e., not a stuffy charity gala).

I've always wanted to support charity by doing coke off a stripper's back.!
Also, the theme for this year's annual fundraising event is STUDIO 54!
At last year's 80s Prom, we had a "Candy Bar" featuring a bunch of throwback 80s candy. For this year's event, I am strenuously arguing for the return of the candy bar idea, except this time with narcotic looking candy and a big sign over the table that says "THE PHARMACY."I've always wanted to support charity by doing coke off a stripper's back.!

Whoa. GREAT auction item.P.S. Our live auction will feature, among other great items, an EVH guitar autographed by the man himself!
We're still soliciting live auction items! Just need to check whether RHE's proposed item would be tax deductible.I read those two posts in rapid succession... must admit a little disappointed with what follows "among other great items" after reading RHE's post.
Thanks! For that guitar, I just need two people in the house that night who really, really want it. That's what happened last year with the BFG guitar.Whoa. GREAT auction item.P.S. Our live auction will feature, among other great items, an EVH guitar autographed by the man himself!
1,400 nights? You guys are crushing it, bb
I'll have to ask my wife as she tracks all the donations. Every bit helps!BB- Are you guys getting any significant benefit from Amazon Smile? Just curious if you get a decent bump around the holidays, or if it's even noticeable.
Interesting idea. However, I can't figure out an appropriate way when we're doing meal delivery or having a family stay in our apartments to ask them whether their child likes to draw. It would be easier if we had an art program (those exist) and could hold some sort of contest. We actually partner with two children's cancer art programs as art is displayed in each of our apartments. Perhaps a good idea for the future.Could you get one of the kids to make something for you? I get wanting something professionally done, but it would reinforce the point of the event.
Yes!!!Haven't checked the board in months, then I saw this thread. You can probably find someone better, but i would be happy to help.
Post the link again, this one is giving an errorFor those of you who have been following our Foundation, I thought I'd post our 2016 year in review. It's amazing how much we've grown in the two years since our launch.
Expansion of the Chance for Hope Residence Program
In 2016, our Foundation expanded the Chance for Hope Residence Program to four individual residences which together provide over 1,400 nights of free lodging per year. Our Chance for Hope Residences are fully-furnished apartments that provide temporary housing at no cost to children and their families traveling to the Texas Medical Center for pediatric cancer treatment.
Chance for Hope Foundation Awards $75,000 Research Grant to Texas Children's Cancer Center
This past November, the Chance for Hope Foundation Pediatric Cancer Research Fund awarded its second major medical research grant. This $75,000 grant will fund critical pre-clinical research and testing of new drugs designed to treat brain cancer, which is now the deadliest form of cancer in children.
Celebrating the Success of Our First Go Gold Cancer Awareness Event
As part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, our Foundation introduced its first major pediatric cancer awareness event - the Chance for Hope Go Gold Fun Run. Attended by more than 500 participants and supporters, this 5K/10K race combines family, fitness and fun for a great cause, and will now be an annual event!
Meal Delivery Program Doubles in Frequency
As part of its support services mission, our Foundation delivers delicious and healthy meals from Amazon Grill to patients and families on the inpatient cancer floor at Texas Children's Hospital. In 2016, we expanded our service to a now monthly delivery schedule on Sundays, when the TCH food court and many local restaurants are closed.
Third Annual Back to School Gift Card Drive Brings Smiles
This past year, the Foundation conducted its third annual Back to School Gift Card drive, collecting Target gift cards to distribute to children with cancer who are unable to attend school in their home communities. This was our Foundation's very first program and we are proud to report that it continues to brighten the days of these courageous cancer warriors.
And we have some exciting things planned for 2017. Stay tuned!
I want you all to know how much we appreciate your continued interest and support. We are in the middle of our annual fundraising drive and I know there are a number of FBGs who have made generous donations. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
If you want to see photos regarding the above programs and events, please visit (and like!) our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/chanceforhopefoundation
And if you know a family who may be in need of our services, please direct them to http://www.chanceforhopefoundation.org. Families from all over the country (and the world) travel to Houston (where we are based) for pediatric cancer treatments .

Many thanks to all of you for helping make 2016 an amazing success for our organization. It is only through the generosity of our supporters that we are able to serve these amazing pediatric cancer families.

The one to make a donation? Thanks for the heads up! That was a mobile link. Added a desktop link as well.
That's kind of you to say. I struggled at the beginning due to a combination of nerves and the fact that I still have great difficulty talking about Chance without getting choked up. It got better after that when we started talking about the Foundation.Very nice interview. You were both very well spoken.
Thanks fatguy. None of this would be possible without the support of our donors. So appreciate everything you all have done to get this charity off the ground and to where it is today. We've already raised over $750,000 in our relatively short tenure if you can believe it. And you can rest assured that the money goes to fund support services and pediatric cancer research as our organization does not have a single paid employee or an office.Yeah, great stuff biggie. I know a lot of folks here have donated to Chance for Hope in the past, listen the interview if you want to hear all the incredible things they are doing with your donations.
You both did very well, I thought I heard a catch in your voice in the beginning. Personally, I don't know how you are able to talk about it without choking up more. I think it helps that you are both so passionate about Chance's cause but I really can't imagine the emotional roller coaster it must put you on. I really wish I lived closer, I would love to go to one of the events like the run or the Space Ball. That's kind of you to say. I struggled at the beginning due to a combination of nerves and the fact that I still have great difficulty talking about Chance without getting choked up. It got better after that when we started talking about the Foundation.
