Chances that Manning goes for his 5th MVP? (1 Viewer)

He looked amazing, and if he keeps playing this way he could maybe be MVP again.

I know it's a little early to make assumptions like this but he looked absolutely phenomenal.

Your thoughts on his performance tonight?

Stellar performance for sure, but there were several QBs with amazing opening day games. Romo, Brady, Cutler, and Sanchez all had pretty spectacular showings today, and a few other QBs compiled nice stats with either low completion percents or high turnover numbers. Peyton was exciting to watch though for sure.

I know the announcers kept referring to the Steelers #1 ranked defense.

First of all, that was last year. More importantly, the Steelers played without James Harrison and Ryan Clark. Harrison is not the DPOY caliber linebacker from 2008, but he's still a difference maker (if he can get and stay healthy) and helps LaMarr Woodley on the other side get less attention. I can't recall even seeing Woodley make a play tonight. Clark is clearly a better safety than Mundy, brings a lot of intangibles and also seems almost telepathically linked to Polamalu and allows Troy to be far more aggressive and seek game-changing plays.

Just to keep everything in perspective that the Steelers were not anywhere near at full strength on defense.

Lots of credit to Peyton on his return. Even as a die-hard Steeler fan, it was good to see him back playing at such a high level.

I'll let the coach types in the Shark Pool tell me what if anything appeared to be different in the Peyton offense, compared to his Colts days, but I'm wondering if slight tweaks to what was expected may also have been part of the reason for his strong start, and which might be less effective now that there is at least one game of Peyton as a Bronco for future opponents to study.

Peyton doesn't have his velocity anymore. He didn't look amazing by any stretch. You sure you weren't watching a game from 2010? 70 yard td was all d Thomas after the catch.

It was odd hearing people doubting Manning.

In the playoffs some years was about it. He was like automatic or assumed quality for such a long time it seemed odd to hear doubt associated with him.

I understood the injury concern and it made total sense. The change of a new team, yep there's more to find fault in there, but it still seems foolish to have thought anything negative about Manning's play.

Oh I doubt MVP we are used to Manning.

RG3 got my attention today. I doubt he can live up to the enormous expectations though.

I think we fall in love with a bunch and start widdling the list down in week 6 or so. There's still a lot that needs to develop.

I know this is trolling, but for anyone else thinking that about that touchdown, Peyton's manipulation and recognition of the defense is why Thomas was able to take that bubble screen the distance.

Peyton looked great, but I don't see how he's going to be able to take it away from RGIII at this point.

You make a fair point, but I don't care if it was 11 rookies, somehow the Steelers are always very tough on D. They're as predictable as...Manning playing well at QB. There's gotta be some give N take there.I'm curious how his teammates will handle him this week. He's infamous for his film room work and offering corrections and being so intense about it all. I wonder if they'll appreciate that or if it can come across as a bit much as the season wears on. I'm curious if he and Elway compare notes at all or Elway stays away. That could be an interesting dynamic.

Yeah I'm with you. I'd rather have Teblow than Manning any day... Did you watch the game? WTF are you talking about? He was like a surgeon. FYI, Manning was never known for his cannon.

Manning wasn't too shabby, but that Pitt D was slow and had no pass rush. His success will make it all that much sweeter when the Chargers bury him this year!!

As a long-time Colts fan this is pretty much true. He always had a good arm, but it was all about placing the ball into the hands of a receiver that didn't see possible. The guy had the most accurate arm in the NFL. He can tear apart defenses with ease. It felt weird seeing him in another uniform for me, but being my favourite player in the NFL, it's impossible to not cheer for him. It was great to see him back on the field doing what he does best. His spirals weren't quite as tight as they were before, but he was making the plays as always.
