I hope Bob Sac, bigb and scoobs write a song about him.
In time, I think this needs to happen.
I believe the building blocks are there, from Smoo's request to write a song that included a tribute to the bend in shiny's member. Pompadour Hair to Living on a Prayer, IIRC.

I didn't "know" him as well as some of you, but may I suggest a separate tribute thread where we can celebrate his iLife? I'd really enjoy seeing a portrait of his thoughts and humor, through some of his old posts.
I think that's what this thread was meant to become.

Also liberals are by and large smarter and more morally robust than conservatives. See, conservatism is actually evil, and deep down conservatives know it. Since humans are intrinsically good, embracing the conservative ideology of warfare, death, hatred, and starvation creates a deep cognitive and moral dissonance in people. So they need to be hectored into maintaining their perverted philosophy by propogandizing loudmouths on the radio. And notice how the conservative talk radio gets by mostly by bashing the opposition. Want to know why? Yep, you guessed it - it's because of the subconscious realization that conservatism is blighted perversion of the human spirit, so they need to insult other people instead of focusing on themselves.I'm not trying to be insulting here, just telling it like it is and trying to get a sober and well-reasoned discussion going. Of course some conservatives will probably get offended and start calling me names. But they'll just be succumbing to the mind-devouring effects of their twisted conservative evilness, which makes them incapable of rational discourse. It's all bomb-throwing and overheated rhetoric with them. I'll love them just the same, while at the same time hating their disgraceful, murderously insane conservative sickness.

Wow, just WOW. I'm really shocked. A guy that I would have loved to have a beer with at some point. Witty, funny, articulate and the creator of the Russian Bride Draft. A FBG's legend. He will be missed. I know that I will have a beer in his memory today. RIP Shining Path.

Great quoteSorry to hear this newsRIP Shining

Wow. Incredibly sad news. He will be missed and he made a lot of people smile here. Words never seem enough for times like these.

Man. I don't usually see stuff that's pinned, so I'm just seeing this now. This is so heartbreaking. shiny was such a patient and respectful and generous presence in the FFA. I'll really miss him.

I couldn't find the direct quote in the FBG archives, but when Yankee23Fan and ***la were negotiating the ground rules for their Civil War debate, shiney commented, "This has Lincoln-Douglas written all over it, except with dumb people."
:excited: Sad day for the FFA. RIP

HA...yep, I think that was the quote verbatim.

Thoughts and prayers to SP's family and friends.

Godspeed, Shining Path. You'll be missed.

I just got online for the first time in 2 days (on vaction) and this was the first thing I saw. How terrible! This was a person I always enjoyed reading, always admired. There's nothing I can add to what's been written here except my own sadness and regret.

I'm so sorry to hear that his life was cut short. He was an outstanding individual. Thoughts and prayers to his loved ones.

:(

I'd hate to think it was something to do with renting the Bobcat. Can someone please clean up that thread anyway - Link. A few touchy lines/comments in there.

RIP SP from a fellow FBG and fellow Alabamian.

I am so saddened to see this news. Shiny was one of our best. A perfect representative of all that I enjoy of the FFA.

Scooby, your tribute was perfect. Nothing more for me to see than I'll miss him terribly.

May I ask...how did you find this out???
Someone noticed that he hadn't posted in awhile, and did a google search for his name and city of residence.
I think it would be nice if his fiance and family could somehow see this thread.

I wish I told Shining Path how much I appreciated his posts earlier.

Don't make the same mistake with your other favorite posters.

Doctor Detroit asked me to post this on his behalf (while he's on timeout).

This is like losing a family member, one of my favorites at that. When I had to go up against him in voting earlier this year I really did vote for Shiny because he was he was in his own tier of posters. Smart on politics, history, science, and college sports he was something of an oddball at FBG because he just made every post count. He was especially good at the funny, always having perfect timing and relating to almost any personality or posting type. He was always one of my favorites from the Moon needs a new name thread to the Russian bride draft to posts about canned meat. We exchanged many pms over the years and he was always gracious and entertaining as well as being an extremely intelligent person who always weighed all the variables in any argument. To say he'll be missed is an understatement, he is irreplaceable a one of a kind guy that we were all privileged to know even at a distance. I knew his first name and once sent him a pm with the Charles in Charge theme song as text. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends, he was a gem.

There are people who knew him well who are taking steps in that direction. In the meantime, I don't think anyone should try to contact the family directly or make any overtures in that direction. This would be a way uncool thing to Wheelhouse.

Wow. I don't know what to say outside of what has been said already. Things are a little less shiny after hearing the news.

 Yup. That was it.

wow.. just wow..

One of my favorite posters all the way back to 'Ol Yeller' days.. Had a charm about him that, even if you disagreed with him, you couldn't help but like him.. Smart, funny, and irreverant.. I'll miss him here

wow

To f'n young.

Hopefully many years down the road the Survivor crew will be able to once again..."joining path for a beer".

Very sad news. I always appreciated him as a part of the board. My condolences to his friends, family, and those of us who knew him well on the board. His contributions - and he - will be missed.

Bakes/Capn.
