It's going to be Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta for the first three games, as far as I've heard. Not sure if Lester goes again in Game 4 next Thursday or what the plan is there. That would be four days rest.

 
Arrieta has already been announced as the Game 3 starter. Obviously, Lester is Game 1. I believe Hendricks should go in game 2. I realize Hammel is the veteran, but Hendricks has been better - especially lately.

My Game 4 guess would be Maddon goes with Hammel and if he's looking shaky, quick hook for Richard. Bullpen is nice and rested going in. I am a bit worried about Arrieta. He looked gassed to me late and his velocity was down to 93-94 by the 7th. He'd dial one up to 95 here and there, but I really thought he was laboring and was lucky to get out without any damage. Surprised Maddon let him pitch the 9th. I love the historic aspect of it, but damn.

I agree with everything you posted. Luckily it seemed that both Arrieta and Montero realized that Arrieta couldn't spot his fastball very well. In "need a strike" situations, Montero almost always seemed to be calling for the breaking ball. Arrieta did mention in his on-the-field post game interview that he was a little over-hyped and was completely exhausted - something he said he never felt during the regular season.

But I guess that's part of the positive aspect of the Cubs making the playoffs "early" - experiencing the difference (or learning to make it a non-difference) of playoff baseball.

In some ways, the team he is facing today is not the same he faced Friday. Rizzo and Bryant seeme to have broken out of their slump, Soler didn't even face Lackey Friday, and the Cub hitters have their collective confidence back. The Cubs will not be shut out today - and I'll be surprised if Lackey makes it to the 6th inning.

I think the wind was blowing in 10-12 MPH that game IIRC. Won't be the case today.

That too - and Lackey wont have the crowd behind him this time either. And Lackey's on short rest.

I always thought bringing a pitcher back on short rest is a risky proposition for two reasons:

1) The pitcher is out of his routine, and also might not have his usual control/stamina/velocity

2) The hitters just saw him a few days ago (which usually works to the hitters' advantage).
