***Chicago Cubs Thread*** (2 Viewers)

0-4 while attending Wrigley

Next game is Cubs/Sox at the cell.

I haven't seen the Sox win one either, so something has to give

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Yankees and Cubs have agreed to an Aroldis Chapman trade.
New York will get shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres, outfield prospect Billy McKinney, right-hander Adam Warren, and one other player. The trade feels like a huge score for the Yankees, but this is the go-for-it of all go-for-its with the Cubs, who haven't won a World Series title since 1908. Chapman will take over at closer in Chicago, with Hector Rondon shifting to a setup role. The flame-throwing 28-year-old left-hander owns a 2.16 ERA and 590 strikeouts in 350 1/3 career major league innings.

A lot to give up.  Nobody will care if they win it all though.

Holding out hope this doesn't end up like Storen/Papelbon for the Nats.  Rondon was not the problem.  It seemed like the players knew this was happening last night?  There was some awkwardness after Rondon closed it out.

I think I'll try to stop analyzing and just let myself be excited for this.  Watching this baseball team for the rest of the summer and into October should be a fun ride.

The Jason Heyward think pieces are all over the place. Am I crazy or is he just not the right fit for this team? I mean, he'd be a fine player, for sure, but I feel like he'd kind of have to be wedged in. I've said this before, but I think the Cubs are much better served going after Denard Span and using the savings to bolster the bullpen. I like the Rex Brothers signing. He's only 27, so I think he can bounce back and regain some of his former glory.
Memories. Instead, we paid Heyward 180M and dealt Gleybar Torres+ for a couple months of Chapman. ay ay ay

I was almost upset when they put the 5 spot on the board in the 8th.  Everyone in that stadium wanted Chapman to come in for a save.  The breathing room was nice though.

With Edwards, Strop, Rondon, and Chapman they have as shut down a bullpen as anyone.  I still think they should trade for another starter and an outfielder.  Wonder what the Rays would want for Matt Moore and Desmond Jennings?

Let's be honest here. Pinch hitting Hammel to lead off the 3rd, when trailing, isn't strategic. It isn't creative managing. It's sucking at your job, which is what you've asked your team to try not to do.

Pitchers making ivy grabs in left and Jon Lester laying down squeeze bunts with his eyes closed are genius moves.  Genius.

I didn't expect Kyle Hendricks to be their most dependable starter.  It's just fantastic to watch him pitch.

The Contreras finger wag on Dee last night was awesome.

I missed this and have been trying to find video. Apparently Dee finger waved at Contreras first when he tried to pick him off first base? Awesome, if true.

Also, can I just say that Javier Baez has the best swipe tag I've ever seen. Seriously, I can't think of another player with a glove hand that nimble.

I don't know where Fowler ends up this offseason, but his one-year deal with the Cubs is looking smarter and smarter. Guy is gonna get paid.

To be fair, that's not how the front office game is played.
We'll see how this plays out.  The preception and reaction of players should be part of the equation in front office decisions. I think it's unlikely Coghlan will be of any significant value to the Cubs going forward.  IMO, he's not worth the upset.
