Chicago's RB situation (1 Viewer)

Just curious as to what you guys think is going to happen with the Chicago running game this year. Is there still a chance Thomas Jones gets traded before the season starts??? I read he has stopped attending workouts and has gone on record saying he doesn't want to play in a RBBC with Benson. I just took Benson at 3.4 in a dynasty league. A little early i know, but he was the best RB available at the spot! What happens in Chicago this year and long term???

Jones wants a bigger deal, one which the Bears will not give to him. I believe he has two years left on his current contract. Rosenhaus is probably advising him to sit out in an attempt to force the Bears to deal him. If Rosenhaus/Jones find a taker, and the Bears are willing to deal him, I think your Benson pick will be a steal.

LOL, i just took Thomas Jones in the 4th as well! Hopefully they both end up in different situations. Jones is a GREAT back in my opinion and Benson will be!

Long term I have to believe Benson will be the RB. Short Term I still thing TJ is the starter for one more year as long as he stays in line. There's talk of a RBBC but Chicago needs the best RB they have on the field to help protect and Support Rex Grossman. If Jones is the best RB then I think Chicago will want him out there as much as possible for Rex.

Based on what I saw last year I don't think Benson can beat out a healthy happy TJ in camp this summer. For Benson to be the starting RB this year, I see one of two things happening:

1. Jones continues to complain and have a bad attitude and pisses off coaches enough to wear he is cut, traded or benched. He'll have to keep this up for a while though because it's not in Chicago's best interest to cut or trade him due to his salary.

2. Jones gets hurt and Benson takes over the starting job never looking back. I have a lot of faith this will happen since Jones gets banged up every year.

If one of those situations don't happen, I think the RBBC will be closer to the Holmes/Johnson or the Martin/Jordan RBBC from a few years ago where the backup get's some carries, but not enough to hurt the starters production. I just don't see this being a Mooch type RBBC where neither guy is worth much Fantasy wise. Jones is too good to take out of the game, and Chicago's offense is too fragile to risk too many Benson mistakes with Benson's learning curve.

Glad I picked up Benson in my dynasty league so I have both Bears RBs locked up. Actually, have Peterson too for that matter. I'd love to see Jones go to a place he can start so I get 2 starters out of it.

But unless TJ actually does hold out, I think it ends up a RBBC. I think the Bears coaching staff would be fine with using both so they can run a lot without overworking their RB.

I think there's a couple threads on this if you use the search function and I think you'll find more results.

I think the job is Jones's if he doesn't hold out. If he does, he may never see the job again. Then he can cry when he's a highly paid backup. Jones is foolish to hold out, but I wouldn't doubt if this was a prolonged holdout (the current contract is more than likely the last 'big' contract he's going to get & he realizes this and wants to cash in now).

The Bears are smart to stand pat....he's not getting a new contract elsewhere either (that's the reason Indy pulled away from him the second he held out from the minicamp). Without him playing under his current contract, Jones has little trade value. Jones or no Jones, the Bears running game will be fine.

Benson's value could go from RB3-4 to RB1 very quickly. It won't be until the Jones contract/holdout situation is resolved that you can get a feel on how things will really turn out.
