Chiefs at Chargers (1 Viewer)

Serious question, couldn't Norv still have challenged that? The replay guy decided not to even review it, he clearly didn't know the rule about the wrist/forearm. If the ref (who presumably knows the rule) sees it he would likely rule him down.

I forget if it was Mike Pereira or Jim Daopoulos (another former ref doing TV broadcasts now), but one of them said last week a wrist would be considered part of the hand.
Wasn't that in regards to Dez Bryant's play? Maybe it is different for establishing a catch and determining down by contact? I know I've seen the wrist ruled down. Maybe the rule has changed?

Yeah, something along these lines changed this year. I'm pretty sure the change was that the wrist would be considered the same as a hand, in terms of being down. I can't recall for sure, though.

Actually, strike that... it was Pereira and he was talking about a receiver getting a wrist down and how that counts towards fulling 2 feet down or 1 other body part when making a possession. Though... hmm. Not sure, you might be able to read out of it what I said originally.

How does Bowe not draw calls from the refs. There are at least three calls that could have been PI not called today. he always gets murdered on the field and he never gets calls.

I've not heard that before, but either way it was his forearm, up from the wrist.
Actually, now that I think about it... It probably should be a ground-forced-[no]fumble either way. If you are going down and the first thing that hits the ground is the ball, and it is jarred loose it would be a ground-force, no fumble. Why would it be different if the hand hits first? That should still be a ground-force, no?

Kinda awesome to see DX back in the league. I know he'll never be able to take more than 20-30 snaps a game but the guy is a major talent.

At least next week we'll finally get a good Thursday night matchup: Colts and Jags.
I don't know wtf you're talking about -- I hate cutler+n and the bears, had stl d everywhere, and currently have gates and sd d.monday night football on thursday has been awesome!!

The ground can cause a fumble

Hand is not considered down, a player can use his hand to catch himself and continue running, having the back of the wrist hit the ground and force a fumble is a fumble.

"The ground can't cause a fumble" is a saying, not a rule. And a bad saying at that. The ground can certainly cause a fumble. What it can't do is cause a fumble when the contact with the ground makes you down by contact. That is, if your knee, elbow, back, etc (any body part but hands or feet) hits the ground, you're immediately down and the ball coming out because of that contact doesn't matter because the play is already dead. But if the contact with the ground does not yet make you down by contact, then it certainly can cause a fumble. If you're tackled and the first thing that hits the ground is the ball, or your hand holding the ball, you're not yet down. So if you fumble it's still a live ball.
