“I’m not going to stand here like Brett Favre and tell you I need compassion, I need a hug," Childres said. "I’m aright.”
Seriously?? Your QB just threw for more yards then he ever has in his career. Just saved your ;) job and you go out and call him out??

What a Donkey..

Chilly ought to drive Favre everywhere he needs to go for the remainder of the season after what Favre did today. I don't know why I'm surprised he continues to act like a dolt but I am.

I didn't see it but I'm betting it was a joke.

I have no idea whether or not Brad Childress is a good coach or not, because I don't watch the Vikings enough to even form an opinion on that. But's here's what I DO know. I have never seen a coach whined about as much as this one. For a guy who has, up until this year, maintained a winning record and playoff appearances, he sure gets called out a lot.

I'm not Childress fan but I think he was joking, referencing a Favre comment made recently.
Then  as you are saying.. or at least after saying give a ;) or crack a smile.. He said it with a straight face, didn't smirk or wink even after saying it.Now, because of what is in the article we know Favre said something about getting a hug earlier in the week, but 90% of the public doesn't know that.

Well.. I'm going to side with Tony Dungy, and the rest of the NBC crew here..

None of them took it as a "joke".. They felt it was wrong and in bad taste.. Basically Childress's coaching career.

but they do if they take 30 seconds to read halfway through the article...just sayin.

Snogger, obviously you are more tuned in to local talk, but is the consensus that CHildress has lost the locker room? Does he have supporters? It seemed like the locker room talk after the game, his players genuinely liked him.

Right on tim- whatever he does there is a legion of creeps out there just waitting to jump all over him etc. they totally forget about him being a father good man and everything else all that matters is that they can go to work tomorrow and try to use ripping on chilly as a way to sound and feel important when it reality they aren't and are just smal people and its say, really.

You need to watch more games.. They have won in spite of his horrible coaching decisions. Today was a prime example.. Cardinals Defense has been Horrid vs. the Run and yet ADP carried it a whopping 15 times.Only because Favre pulled a 1996 game out of his #### did the Vikings pull this one out.

I'd say he is close to losing it. had they lost today it would have been over. Reading and listening to ADP, Favre, Harvin, Klewue and others they have so much as called Childress out when they have been questioned about play calling.

IMO I think he tries to hard.. He needs to let the Offensive Coordinator be the Coordinator. He thinks he is some master mind Offensive genius and he screws up more games then he helps.

it was a joke. a joke with a delivery as dry as the sahara, but a joke nonetheless.

and since when do we give credence to what those hacks on the nbc show say? talk about worthless, especially harrison.

OK, I didn't see it, and I have no reason to not to believe you. It's just that, from about 1994 through 2005, there were a contingent of Steelers fans who always wanted to fire Bill Cowher. No matter how many playoff games the guy won, everything was always his fault. It got really tiresome to have to listen to these guys complain week after week, year after year. So now I always get defensive when I hear coaches get ripped apart. And I can't recall EVER hearing a coach get ripped like this one does.

Were you watching the same pre-game show I was watching? Dungy asked Harrison if he thought Chilly was joking? I pretty sure Dungy was amused by Harrison's serious reaction.

Harrison is a joke, and it's a shame Tony Dungy has to listen to his garbage every week. Classless, cheating, dirty player, and a horrible analyst.

if it doesn't fit thier agenda they will twist it however they want so it does... so whatever guys like that watch, it doesn't matter because they will see what they want to see anyhow and then go and try to sound like a big shot about it.

Don't forget that Chilly also got into a heated argument with Percy Harvin on Friday when he questioned Harvin's effort. I think Childress is just on a quest to see how many of the most important people in the Minnesota franchise he can piss off before he gets fired. I expect to read a report next week about how Childress ran over Jason Allen's dog.

You don't know many Dallas fans, do you?

Here is my question, and I defer to Vikings fans on this, but what is Childress supposed to do? he thinks a player is exaggerating an injury. Should he let it go? Randy Moss has absolutely zero character and has been a pain everywhere he has played. Yes, even New England. He cried his way out of there, and then cried because he was used as a decoy that game in Minny. A game in which he stopped running on what would have been a sure td.

So Harvin has an issue with Childress. Who else on that team? The vets on that team have struck me as high character, professional guys. Has an actual leader of the team said anything?

And I understand Vikings fans frustrations with him as an in game coach. As was pointed out today, his best player got 15 carries and was taken out in some key series. But to say he has lost the team? I guess I am just not seeing it. He lost a big baby, whining receiver who he cut, and also a receiver he believes has been dogging it.

Chilly isn't half the coach Cowher was.

YOur probably right but how could you tell -- they dealt with different players in different times and Cowher never had to deal with a weiner-texting bckchannel press assasin like brett John Edwards II favre who not only thinks but acts like he is bigger than the team but the indeed the whole NFL as wel...so hard to say, hard to say. Cowher had plenty of calls for his head even without the sideshows chilly has had to deal with, and Cowher also had real veteran leadership - actually leaders not just Brett holier than thou come get me at my house and give me my own special lokcker area favre - who would say something and smack down a rook like harvin if he dogged it. chily had favre and moss -- super.

You'd have to have been reading each article after each game to catch them..One example.. After they lost and the reporter asked ADP why he wasn't in the game on 3rd and 4th down when the game was on line ADP responded along these lines:

" I was fine, ready to go, but the call is what the call was. Not sure why it didn't include me but we do what we are asked to ".

We all know Favre and Childress haven't seen eye to eye and Favre has called him on it.

The other Veterans like the Williams don't talk much so it is hard to get a read on them.

There have been others but I can't recall right off the top of my head.

The way he handled Moss was wrong. Should he have been waived.. Sure, he was messing with the locker room and becoming a cancer on the field. But you don't make a decision like that without at least letting the owner and the Front office know.

I'd be willing to chip in $100 to get a Dungy, Cower or Gruden here.. anyone else in???

Defensive end Jared Allen, part of a defense that sacked Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson six times, laughed when asked if the players were motivated to win and save Childress' job.

"We won one for us," Allen said.

Hard to tell how to take this, as you read it in print, but my impression is that the players have little respect for Childress the coach.

Thanks. I obviously haven't been following it as much as Viking fans.

It's past the point of Childress simply being a liability as a head coach. He's now embarrassing himself, and the organization which he's supposed to be one of the leaders of.

Door, Childress. Childress, Door.

Anybody (else) feel like a lot of this is fabricated? There’s just too much drama for it all to be real… this whole Minnesota soap opera is starting to smell a lot like the stuff Favre and Coles were cooking up in New York to screw with the media there.

As Maxwell Smart would say, “AH-HA… The old create a diversion to detract from the distraction trick!”

All these stories about Chilly losing the team… watch the Dallas Cowboys… now THERE is a team that has stopped listening to the coaching staff.

Say what you want about Randy Moss… I believe there are enough “locker room cancer” stories floating around throughout his career for at least some of it to be true. He committed treason after the Pat’s game… he should have gotten his walking papers (and I think he wanted them).

Obviously a joke. Problem was Childress overestimated his audience. Post game podium never a good place for dry humor when you have eighth-wits like Tony Dungy needing to fill air time.

Agreed that it was a joke. But as a guy with the myriad of issues that Childress has, it was a terrible time to try to be funny. He's lucky he's still employed. Cracking a joke about your QB who already has disdain for you just shows how truly clueless Childress is.

Joke or no joke, he isn't afforded the luxury of humor. He is in the middle of a ####$torm and he is the captain. Good riddance.

It was awesome when Childress cut Marcus Robinson on Christmas Eve, right after Marcus was quoted in the Newspaper expressing displeasure with the communication between the players and the staff.

Actually Childress didn't cut him, he had somebody else call him at home on Christmas eve to fire him.

Classy, stand up guy that he is.

Maybe he'd like to be fired and kick it with 5 mil a year for the next few years
Exactly. Not sure what his contract situation is, but it's almost like "Chilly" (####ed up nickname) is TRYING HIS BEST to get fired.

Just remember who encouraged his firing first. And it wasn't this year. Or last year. Or the year before that.

I don't even get why he did this? I'm guessing it was a joke, but it makes little sense. I have no dog in the fight, but the guy just seems like he's lost control of the team.

He was joking as to endear himself to Favre. Obviously people didn't get it. To think people are up in arms over it though is 100X more hilarious than the joke itself. Talk about a mountain out of a molehill. They just had a huge, come from behind, semi-miracle win. Guy's been under a little stress and tried to crack a dry joke. Everybody exhale.
