For goodness' sake, Cincinnati puts cocoa powder in their chili and it still tastes good
Objection: Assuming facts not in evidence.
They do put chocolate in their chili, but it doesn't taste good. It's basically meat water on pasta (sorry shuke)
Add this to the list of things you and I disagree on. :boxing:
:lmao: I had some at a local diner type place that was pretty good. It was spicy....most of it up there isn't. I tried and tried while I lived there, but couldn't ever get over the hump.

What is the FFA opinion of chili over pasta, like Cincinnati? Forgetting opinions of Cincinnati chili.
As long as it's not Skyline, it's open for discussion.
To pick nits, does Skyline represent all Cincinnati or do you just not like Skyline?
I never really saw much of a difference between Gold Star and Skyline. If we are going to more local then ok. Never had them.
Gold Star was edible on a hotdog/coney. I had zero use for skyline in any shape or fashion...too sweet and cinnamony for me.

I've been eating Skyline 2-3x per week since I was old enough to ride my bike there. And Gold Star

I have never eaten chili but if someone handed me a bowl I would assume there would be beans in it.
How is this even possible?
It is just that food that's never appealed to me. Everyone has a popular food they don't like for some reason. I see friends putting chili on hot dogs and it makes me want to puke. Why would you put something that looks like dog doo on your hot dog? People love it though, i get it. Enjoy your bowl of slop.

Official International Chili Society sanctioning body is pretty clear on the rules of what constitutes Chili:

The Rules and Regulations for cooks at the World’s Championship, State, Regional and District Cookoffs are as follows:

1. Traditional Red Chili is defined by the International Chili Society as any kind of meat or combination of meats,
cooked with red chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients,
with the exception of BEANS and PASTA which are strictly forbidden. No garnish is allowed.

2. Chili Verde is defined by the International Chili Society as any kind of meat or combination of meats, cooked
with green chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients,
with the exception of BEANS and PASTA which are strictly forbidden. No garnish is allowed.
They are the preeminent authority on the dish, sanctioning over 200 events worldwide with over 1 Milion attendees annually.

There is a "homestyle" chili category that allows for "whatever you want" (aka beans), but it is not considered one of the 3 main categories (salsa being the 3rd), and no "World Champion" is crowned. Homestyle chili category is basically there to placate the people can't afford to make real chili, and have to resort to cheap fillers like beans.

I thought your initial comment about chili was shtick.

It appears it wasn't.

Many people have a popular food they don't like. I would not say that very many people have a popular food that they've never even TRIED.

Live a little, dude. It may be the best thing you've ever tasted.

Thank you. Thread's over hippies.

Actually getting hungry. Might have to make Judge's chili today.

I don't add beans to that recipe but I do add cilantro and chopped onion and drink it with beer so I'll be sure to call it:

Meat Soup with Cilantro/Raw Chopped Onion and Beer
it is not judge's chili, it is random googled chili. He would never waste that much time making chili

Seems weird to say "other ingredients" which could theoretically include...what? Crackers? Peanut butter? Cottage cheese? But let's be sure to exclude two specific ingredients that we know people use to cook what they refer to as "chili".

It's all politics.

you can put fruit (pineapple) on a pizza and it's still pizza, even though it sucks.

putting beans in a chili doesn't mean it's not chili.

it happened.

"4. Homestyle Chili is defined by the International Chili Society as the cook's favorite combination of ingredients resulting in a dish seasoned with chili peppers and spices."

so, by rules, the cooks put their favorite ingredients in this one. I'd say that probably makes a pretty awesome batch of delicious chili. bet it's loaded with beans too!

You're missing out on a lot of great food if you judge it by how it looks. One of my favorite foods is an East African/Indian dish called khichro that looks absolutely disgusting.

Maybe I tried it many moons ago. I really don't remember. What I do remember is that I don't care for chili. Any foods you don't care for?

There is no global sanctioning pizza body that expressly prohibits pineapple on pizza. ;)

You beans guys are free to flounder in the minor leagues. let us know when you're ready to make the step up to the majors. :coffee:

Based on what you have said in this thread, you are in no position to be a judge of anything in the culinary realm. But I'll overlook that out of my sense of sporting fun.

Here you go:

Sweet pickles

Pickled fish

Lima beans

A wide variety of Indian and Chinese dessert items

LOL at "global sanctioning body." When a group from Terlingua decides to create a "World Championship" its no more a global sanctioning body than when a bunch of guys from Memphis decide their competition is the World Championship of barbecue. Its a local group enforcing their own local preferences.

pretty sure the FFA Chili Society is clearly PRO-BEANS as we can see in this here thread. I don't think any other group has jurisdiction here.

There isn't anything even remotely common that I dislike that I haven't tried in the last 5 years, much less long enough ago that I don't even remember if I've ever had it.

Some of my favorite foods now are foods that I didn't like 20 years ago.

people are really fired up

i don't think you i would like cauliflower on pizza, but i am not about to try and rid the world of cauliflower on pizza, if you like it enjoy!

ditto beans in chilli

and ketchup on hot dogs
