Chris Ogbonnaya (1 Viewer)

"Montario Hardesty drew the ire of coach Pat Shurmur after dropping another pass in Browns practice Friday.

This is notable because Hardesty leads all NFL running backs in drops this season, despite spending most of the year as a part-time player. Shurmur yanked Hardesty off the field, replacing him with Chris Ogbonnaya. "He dropped the ball and we don't want him to drop the ball," Shurmur said after the practice. "We work on catching." Hardesty is still expected to start Sunday's game against Seattle, but Ogbonnaya will be the third-down back." Oct 21 - 3:26 PM

With Hillis in doghouse/injured/whatever, and Hardesty on his way to the same place potentially, is Ogbonnaya a good pick-up? I've heard he is good in pass protection and can catch the ball well.

Shark move?

I know that Chris O. is a very pedestrian talent from watching in the pre-season and very linited regular season work, so if he gets a chance i would surprised if he is anything more than a FF fill-in.

seems to me like one of those guys that does everything well, but doesn't really have that excitement factor. Really the type of guy that you can count on as a back-up RB. Obviously he was leaned on heavily in the preseason and held up well. The Browns could do worse as a long term back-up to Hardesty

I picked him up in 2 dynasties last week after realizing that Hillis's situation might be more than injury. I think he's protecting himself for Free Agency next year and the coaches are on to him, he's not pushing through anything.

Hardesty was an injury waiting to happen.

Chris O's not the best start with that ugly browns offense, but if he gets a big workload he'd be useful in ppr big roster leagues.

I picked him up in a couple of leagues after the Sea game after seeing Hardesty look awful and knowing his injury history.

In terms of the game in SF I am very encouraged. 11 carries and 5 receptions (on 8 targets) is a nice workload for a ww guy at this point in the season. More importantly his 3.4 y/c average is actually solid considering how stout the 49ers D has been so far this year. Dropping Vick's 8/75 performance against them opposing teams have averaged 3.1 y/c for the season and 2.9 y/c in the previous 3 home games (even with Vick's performance they are holding teams to 3.5 y/c).

The Browns rushign schedule isn't exactly great the rest of the season but they do have STL and Hou on the docket and he could be starts against those 2 teams. The rest of the schedule is brutal though- Cin (3.3 y/c) 2 against Bal (3.3 y/c) 1 @ Pit, @ Ari, Jac.

If Hillis and Hardesty are out next week, he is probably worth a start in PPR leagues. He would probably be worth a start week 10 vs STL in 12-team leagues, though there are no teams on bye that week to water down your options. He's likely just a mediocre RB, but his ability to catch the ball and lack of other options make worth keeping an eye on the injury situation in Cleveland.

I have him in a deep league and am holding on, but I fully expect Hillis to be active this week.

I'd happily take pre-injury Ryan Grant like production out of him.

Nothing special, just an average ypc with 4-5 receptions mixed in.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur revealed at his Monday press conference that Montario Hardesty is in a walking boot, and "going to miss some time" with a pulled right calf muscle.

Hardesty can be all but ruled out for Week 9, forcing the Browns to turn to Chris Ogbonnaya if Peyton Hillis (hamstring) doesn't return. Shurmur said Hillis remains day-to-day. A third-down back by trade, Ogbonnaya was plodding in Hardesty's absence Sunday, rushing 11 times for 37 yards. Although he was able to add five catches for 24 yards, he'd be a poor fantasy bet against Houston's sixth-ranked run defense in Week 9.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur said at his Monday press conference Peyton Hillis (hamstring) remains day-to-day.

Hardly a ringing endorsement for Hillis' Week 9 prospects, though he'll now be under extra pressure to return with Montario Hardesty out with a calf injury. After not practicing at all last week, Hillis' chances of playing against Houston will go down dramatically if he's unable to practice Wednesday.

Browns | Chris Ogbonnaya could start Week 9 Wed Nov 2, 11:23 AMCleveland Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya could start in Week 9 if RB Peyton Hillis (hamstring) is not able to play in the game.

Our view: We could see both Ogbonnaya and the newly acquired Thomas Clayton get the carries for the Browns as they face the Texans in week 9. 'Silent G' Ogbonnaya is a versatile back, and the former college WR makes for a good target out of the backfield. Clayton is a big, bruising RB with good straight line speed.

A large part of the reason that hardesty and or Hillis get yards is because the OL is so good. Face it they are both very average/flawed bacs Any scrub can put up yards, and if Colt McCoy can pull his head out of his ### a back (especially the hghly motivated already been cut a few times kind) could have a nice day.

I think it's a terrible match up, but if hillis really sits and they give oingoboingo the ball 25x he's probably decent ppr filler if he catches 6 balls.

I believe he's a converted wr.

maybe if you're lucky, houston beats the hell out of cle early and there's some good garbage points.

Not to mention a back that Colt connected 46 times with in 2008. A little history together might help here.

The Texans cut him a few weeks ago. Motivation, no?

Rotoworld w/ a bit different take than I've heard from most around these parts...http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4965/peyton-hillis

Updating a previous item, Peyton Hillis (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday. It can't be a good sign for Hillis' Week 9 availability. The Browns initially hoped Hillis would practice Wednesday, but it appears he's not healthy enough yet to participate in drills. If Hillis can't play against the Texans, the Browns would have to roll with Chris Ogbonnaya and Thomas Clayton. Ogbonnaya was terrible in Week 8, getting Colt McCoy sacked twice on blown blitz pickups, dropping a pass, fumbling, and averaging under 3.4 yards a carry
Seems kinda harsh considering the D they were up against, but its always good to at least consider contrary opinions. Maybe Clayton is more interesting than it seems.

Rotoworld is good to get quick information-- like if someone practices or not, or quotes from a player or coach. Sometimes for information from beat writers. It would be wise to look at anything that additional written in by their staff in blue text with a grain of salt.

A week of being the #1 back at practice may help him being better prepared as well.

The guy has put up some decent #'s in limited playing time the past two weeks and against very good run defenses.

He has a higher yards per carry than Hardesty and has caught 10 passes (5 in each game)

I thought Hardesty was a decent flex play and Ogbonnaya could be a little better.

No shame in not making the Texans as a RB ... they have some pretty good RBs

The Ogboner is going to win that job - mark my words! I bid half of my remaining FAAB on him, and I am starting him with confidence!

This guy is going to be money with 20+touches.... these random midseason guys are how we win our leagues sometimes

better use him up vs. STL

W9 @Hou - tough

W10 vs. STL - played a lot better last week

W11 vs. Jax - tough

w12 @ Cin - tough

W13 vs. Bal -though

W14 @ Pitt - tough

W15 @ AZ

W16 @ Bal -tough

W17 vs. Pitt - tough

Are we possibly looking at a situation like Blount was in last year? I know the two guys ahead of OgbiWon Kenobe wont be out as long as they were for Blount but if he puts in a good showing is there any way he could force himself in full time with Hardesty and Hillis if they are healthy? Neither of those guys is elite so is possible. Im willing to take the chance. And in Dynasty, this guy is pretty young, maybe even a more valuable pick up in those long term leagues.

The O.G. could I suppose but there's no reason to risk your fantasy season on that contingency.

Trivia Question: Where did Hillis start 2011 on the depth chart? That's right: at #3. Then Hardesty tore his ACL and The Ghost turned into a turd. Boney G. has a golden opportunity here: Hillis and Hardesty are both dinged up, and both have other issues. Hillis is surrounded by controversy, and Hardesty can't catch a cold. Boney G. has hands and burst, and he has good size. Dude is primed for a breakout.

Oksana Baiul is just keeping the seat warm for Hillis who faded at the end of the season last year. This is just a ploy by the Browns to keep him fresh for a very difficult stretch run.

I thought my RB bench was deep, but with Peterson on a bye, Ingram injured, and Best both injured and on a bye, I'm stuck with Og Bon Pain as my RB2...

Same here ... with Taiwan, Ware and Grant as my other options. I think the "safer" bet is the big "O"

The thing with Hillis is he wants a big fat contract. If Oggie Oglethorpe can prove he can handle the rock, they may just let Hillis play out his current contract and walk which means finding out if Oggie can do it...
