Christmas Bonus or not (1 Viewer)

Bonus = continued employment. And my company is a not for profit, so no profit sharing, either.

Though this year we are going from vacation to PTO and they are buying out extra vacation hours (which never happens otherwise). I am at max, so when the reduction happens I'll get an extra paycheck out of it. Not really a bonus, as I lose 2 weeks, but at least it is cash coming in.

Either you guys are getting stiffed or we're giving #### away here...

We do a Christmas bonus. Give them out with the first paycheck in Dec. Its all contingent upon the company having a good year and we did this year.

10 total employees, 8 got bonuses. 2 Just started in Oct.

Most got in the 4-8% range of their base pay. We also have a profit sharing that will get funded pretty good this year.

Run my own firm. So...... yeah, no. No bonus. At my last firm I got a massive one my first year and then nothing for years. One of the reasons I left.

No Xmas bonus, but my annual review is supposed to be in late Nov, but typically happens late in the year or in the subsequent year. I probably need to ping my boss about that again...

So after our second record year in a row I got just shy of a 7 percent bonus this year. That sure helps make the holidays a little brighter.

No Christmas bonus - annual bonus pays out in mid March with raises Apr. 1

Do have 2 week off though. I think we average around 18 holidays to go along with a liberal vacation/sick/personal/comp day policy.

Started at a Jewish firm.

No Rosh Hashanah bonus, no Hannukah bonus, but I'm holding out hope for Shmini Atzeret.

Company pays Christmas bonus for non-exempt employees a week or so before Christmas. Somewhere around $100-$200. My bonus paid in January (and March, if big enough). Performance based, so anywhere from 0% to 30%.

We do xmas bonuses every year the tuesday before thanksgiving. Everybody gets a bonus. Even when we have had people that started the day before. We gave them a $100 gift card. It is always a fun party and the owner literally tells the employees he expects them to be irresponsible with some of the money and splurge for their families. Stresses that this is a bonus, not salary.

We have discussed taking it away for a couple years since several employees have lost appreciation for it. We would still give a bonus to high performing employees, but it wouldn't be a public party where we call people's names and have them come up and get their check.

Last year we had a driver that rolled a truck and missed 4 months(workers comp of course) followed by 2 months of light duty due to the injury he sustained from it. He was driving too fast and totaled it. 100k down the drain. His reaction when he got half of what he got the year before was disgusting.

Get a Christmas Bonus every year equal to two weeks of pay.

Also get a performance bonus in February which has been around 18% of yearly salary the past few years

Very blessed.

Heh, now I feel guilty.

Got called in a few days ago and they kicked me a grand. I've only got about 5 months in, so was quite surprised and pleased.

What crap stories in here.

If my company ever takes off everyone is getting a bonus no matter how long they work here and it will come out of my pocket if it has too.

Don't know if this counts as a Christmas Bonus or not, but my wife's cousin who works for the Packers gets 2 tickets to each home game (nice seats) and a couple years ago when the Packers won the SB, she got a ring. From what I understand, every full time employee gets one; if you wanted a full size ring, same as the players, you could get one, or they had a smaller version. The previous time they won, she was only an intern, so she missed out!

Even as a Bears fan, I can't think of a reason to quit, once you had a job!!

I am a teacher so no bonuses for me, but my husband used to get one from his employer every year, until this year. It was bad form by the owner too, every year they would have a small Christmas party at the shop, some pizzas, some beer and just hang out for a few hours. The owner would go around and hand the bonus checks to everyone and give them a hand shake and thank them for all the hard work. A few years ago a couple of the employees thought it would be nice to get the owner a card and everyone chip in and get him a dunkin doughnuts gift card, I guess he comes in everyday with a doughnut and coffee from there. So this year they give him the card with the gift card at the start of the party and shortly after everyone is done eating and just hanging out the owner announces that their would be no bonuses this year, but kept the gift card.

Awkward..... We receive performance (Overall corporation, my particular company (trading), individual performance are all factors) bonuses in March. They are relayed early in March and paid during the last pay period in the month. I've had some good years, some really good years, and some GREAT years. I have no pension associated with this job, so bonuses are a de facto one I guess. At least that's how I look at them anyway.

I'm sure there was a reason why no bonuses, and he did address it publicly. I also think it would be more awkward to give the gift card back.

Wasnt the gift card....a gift?
It was, but it was just the way it was handled. The owner knew that he would be getting a gift and instead of telling everyone before the party that the company had a bad year or whatever and no bonuses would be issued he just let everyone think everything was going to be the same. My husband says it is because the owner's father died. The father started the business back in the 70's and was always good to everyone, and even though he handed it down to the son roughly 10 years ago, he was still involved and made sure the employees were taken care of. The rumor is the father kept the son from cut wages and bonuses and such. I guess we will find out shortly.

Pay everyone a fair wage and give a bonus for good performance that is aligned and supporting the company's goals.

Bonuses/gifts for attending is hooey
