Christmas Perry.. If he is so good, why hasn't he (1 Viewer)

For a non starter, those are good numbers over 16 games, especially as a receiver. 63 carries, mainly in passing situations, isnt enough to judge Perry's potential as an every down back.

Perry was drafted to be the third down back and potentially an every down back. Partly because Rudi in only considered good as the 2 down back he's been. There was a need for better 3rd down production and they saw that in Perry when they drafted him. Clearly Perry is better than Rudi in passing situations.

Perry wasnt an elite prospect. I believe he was touted as an early to middle second round prospect. Most scouts had him in ranked in the 3-5 slot amoung rookie RBs. He was considered a good at everything, great at nothing type. The NFL is full of good players and has plenty of great ones. Being good, even all-around good doesnt always put a player into a starting job. I think if he could stay healthy, he'd make a good but not great starting RB.

Perry hasnt stayed healthy. The Bengals are competative with Rudi as their starter. Rudi is good and maybe better on the first 2 downs than Perry. That's why Rudi is the starter.
