CJ Anderson (3 Viewers)

Looks great...raise your hand if you dropped him when he fell down the depth chart after holding him for the entire season.

:bag:
I drafted him. I dropped him like you refer to, then somehow won him back in our blind bidding just recently.

Hillman's 20-25 pounds lighter. If Anderson knows his assignments he should be the better blocker. You also aren't going to give Hillman the ball 30 times in a game.

This thread is filled to the brim with full #######. One should NEVER go full #######.

Seriously, one particular poster should take up crochet. Or at least needle point.

This was my theory before about why CJA would rise above Hillman when Ball went down. And yet Hillman was the man, why? (that's an actual question btw).

I honestly don't know why. Maybe Anderson's still weak on his assignments? Or the coaching staff doesn't like that he's brash? Or maybe he really did show up to camp overweight and they wanted to make him earn his way back into things? Or John Fox really is as conservative as we think he is? One of those things that's just not knowable to outsiders.

Weird that the NFL's yardage leader over the last three weeks, averaging 25ppg over that period, isn't getting more attention.
I think most people, including me, are waiting for the other shoe to drop (Hilman/Ball return, Thompson to be more involved). But until then it appears to be the CJ show!

I find it curious that even after Ball went down, Thompson barely played. No rushing attempts and only one reception/target. Agreed that Anderson needs to play better to keep the grip on this job, but given the fluctuations in this backfield, don't be shocked if Bibbs gets carries ahead of Thompson. I don't have any inside information, but reading the tea leaves tells me any active RB could emerge at any time in this backfield. They clearly like Bibbs, carrying him on the active roster to protect him from being sniped by the Bills. Sunday will be the first game he's active. Just saying...

how is this kid not starting since day 1? kid looks amazing and has looked good every time I see him.
he running thru clear lanes and facing 6 man fronts. its a joke how easy manning makes it.
And yet, Montee Ball can't do it.
Again. Montee Ball was fine last year to the tune of 4.7 YPC and another 20 receptions.

He was bad to start the year. IMO there's a plausible explanation for that which has been discussed ad nauseum, yet it's conveniently tossed aside for comments like this.

To reiterate:

1) he got too heavy and said so himself (and coaches' comments likewise echoed this)

2) appendectomy was likely never fully recovered from

3) appendectomy caused him to miss the majority of training camp and reps with the OL

CJ has looked great - and I always liked CJ (been all over this thread from the early going). I'm pissed I dropped him when the Broncos inexplicably buried him on the depth chart, and the rosters in my league are too small for long-term bets on talent. Beat to him on the wire due to waiver priority when he exploded against Oakland.

It's not an anti-CJ post; but I do believe it's a bit deceiving to completely chuck Ball under the bus. Coaches evaluated all the running backs all of last season and all offseason, then all preseason and for the first month of the year, and Ball was the guy. He likely won't be getting it back this year, but I'm not ready to close the book on his dynasty value.

I'm happily riding the CJ train, just like I rode the Hillman train before that, but at this point, would anyone be surprised if the wheel turns again and by Week 16, Ball, Hillman or even Thompson is the guy putting up 20/120/2?

If CJ runs like he did last game, I can't see anyone else used as more than a COP guy. If he struggles any or fumbles, perhaps.

Hillman looked great for the games before he got hurt. CJ's looked great since he had the gig. I maintain Ball was too heavy and wasn't fully healthy (though that's a minority opinion around here). I've owned them all (currently own Ball and Hillman in dynasty, CJ in some redraft leagues), but I believe it's CJ's gig until he gives it back.

Yeah, I believe that's the most likely outcome, especially since both Hillman's and Ball's injuries are the type that are likely to linger (and Denver has a strong incentive to make sure they're healthy for the playoffs). I was just saying that, at this point, nothing would surprise me. We've gone from assuming Ball had the job all to himself, to thinking Hillman was running away with it, to now believing it's Anderson's to lose. Whenever we've thought we had it all figured out, circumstances changed.

Random factoid: For the last three weeks, the ascendance of CJ Anderson has meant that three of the top five fantasy RBs are from Cal. (Lynch, Forsett, Anderson). Go Bears!

I have an offer for him of Sims/Mallett in a start 3RB and 2QB league. Got no answers from the AC so I figured I'd put it here. At the very least it helps gauge his market value.

Mallett is out for the year per ESPN. I wouldn't do that. But move it to the AC.

held on to him since he was an UDFA because I saw the talent. Dropped him once Juwan Thompson seemed to pass him on the depth chart.

Sucks because even when I dropped him I think Hillman was starting and I thought he was a far better talent than Hillman.

A lot of Bronco fans have been high on CJ since preseason rookie year. The talent has been apparent since then. I am glad he's getting his shot and feel really dumb for having dropped him when he fell on the depth chart. He's a far more complete RB than any other RB on the rooster and don't expect him to cede the starting position anytime soon barring injury.

He deserved to take over day 1 when ball went down and is obviously the best back.

I held CJ for the first 6 weeks, then finally dropped him after the healthy scratch. I have a great team, but rb2 is my glaring weakness. GTate is my wr4 behind Brown, Cobb, OBJ. I have been offered CJ Anderson, Hillman, and Ball for GTate, my choice of Turbin or Sims, and my choice of Eifert or Ertz.

I'm tempted.

My wr4 becomes Kenny Stills, but I go from starting Vereen or Mckinnon at rb2 to CJ Anderson.

btw... if the reports that he's playing at 216/217 are true his measurables profile shifts from the comps I mentioned on page one of the thread to Frank Gore and Alf Morris. Anderson's got better long speed than Morris and probably isn't quite as quick as Gore (though with the weight loss he might be close), but he might be better in the passing game than both.

So no surprise that he's doing well and I expect you're looking at a long-term starter.

Nice quote from Manning

"C.J. has taken advantage of his opportunity," Manning said. "I think his knowledge of the offense has a lot to do with how fast he's able to play, and when I say fast, he's not thinking a lot back there. He knows the protections, he knows the pass patterns and he feels good about the run plays and the cuts on where to go. When you're thinking a lot back there and you're not exactly sure of what to do, you just don't play as fast. It's a real credit to him in being a student of a game in his short time here.

Anderson is the guy right now as neither Ball nor Hillman will play against the Chiefs because of injuries. And Anderson has done well enough in pass protection -- Job 1 for Broncos running backs -- to go with what he’s done on the ground, to have earned top billing when the other guys come back. The Broncos will use a rotation when everybody’s healthy. They believe Hillman’s speed is an enormous threat in the passing game -- but Anderson has seized the opportunity, and unless his play drops off, they’ll keep handing him the ball.

Fluff piece on Anderson that points out his difficult upbringing but also points out that C.J. has been trending well over the last three weeks and considering his tough roots that the success he's had will continue which is kinda nice to hear for anyone interested in whether or not C.J. Anderson's success can continue.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_27035500/broncos-c-j-anderson-sidestepped-pitfalls-road-nfl?source=rss

... Anderson had 163 yards rushing and receiving against the Raiders, 115 yards receiving and rushing the next week at St. Louis and 195 yards rushing and receiving last week against the Miami Dolphins.

... It wasn't given to him. He wasn't drafted. He wasn't given millions of dollars.

"That's why the kid is going to continue to be successful, because he knows he had to earn it."

One of the annoyin things about fantasy football. Basically whoever had $$ leftover in week 10 or so (whenever he has that big game vs OAK) just got themselves a free top 5 RB with no effort at all. Im not talkong about the guys who have smartly stashed him all year knowing how talented he was (many on here thought so). In my leagues, usually the guys who have $$ left are the ones who dont pay attention or ones with little injuries and no need to spend $$ on free agents. In one league, the best team in the league got this guy. Now he looks unstoppable. Im out of the playoffs anyway just one of the annoyances of FF.

This is true and frustrating, however, luck (Not Andrew) is a big part of FF. Going into FF any regular long time players know and accept that, it doesn't make situations like this better, but I think we all understand they can and do happen.

Frustrating for sure. At the same time, there are some things to learn here. First, it's good to be early on players like CJ (RB in a high powered offense). Take a flier the week before and spend $5 on him. He might turn out to be Charles Sim or he could be Mason, Crowell, Anderson. Also I would try to keep some powder dry specifically for players who might break out late. You might not be able to based on injuries but I would treat every free agent dollar as a precious resource
