CJ Anderson (3 Viewers)

Short week,o-line problems,in KC, not a good week to start Broncos
- Since joining the Broncos, Peyton Manning-led teams are 6-0 facing Kansas City. In those games, Manning has averaged 289.3 passing yards and 8.6 yards per attempt with 16 touchdowns to three interceptions.

- Demaryius Thomas has scored or gone over 100 receiving yards in all six of those games.
There are some DEN players I feel more confident in then in others. I'm so-so on CJ and Manning but think DT and Sanders will get it done.

Also, the O/U opened at 42 but has crept up to 46 then. It's oddly lofty considering what we've seen (sputtering DEN offense, a great DEN defense which KC has historically struggled versus).

ETA: The experts dont like me playing Lewis at flex either, but I like the guy and think he will do well so Im starting him this week

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports C.J. Anderson's (questionable, toe) status is "up in the air" for Thursday night's game against the Chiefs.

No matter what side of the fence you lie on CJ, you have to hate the persistent flow of misinformation from these beat writers and journalists.
Seriously. Here's an update not even 10 minutes later...

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports C.J. Anderson (questionable, toe) will be active on Thursday evening.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier Thursday that Anderson's status was "up in the air," but that went against everything the Broncos and local media have been saying this week. Perhaps Anderson will lose some work to Ronnie Hillman, but he's going to start at Arrowhead Stadium. Anderson will be more of an RB2 than RB1 as Denver looks to shake off last week's rough start. I'm still going to start either Rashad Jennings or Chris Ivory over him. If he goes off tonight I will still be happy that my 1st round pick isn't a bust. This is a difficult matchup, so I am glad I have options.

Ivory, advise from G-Men fan. (Vereen will be the one this week)

tough physical defense; raucous crowd; fired up opponent

Not a good situation for CJ.

And if Hillman outplays him again, watch social media explode.

Also keep in mind that he does not play on special teams, so it's foolish to activate him and waste a gameday body unless he's ticketed for a large role in the offense.

I'm not sitting my 1st-round pick in week 2 when he's active. Whatever happens, happens.
RN, I was with you and just going to ride it out and see what happens. With RB choices of CJ, Randle, Dion Lewis, Gio Bernard and Cunningham in a 14-team, PPR start 2RB/1Flex league, I was prepared to roll the dice with CJ and trust he will have the relative same number of carries as he did previously and have the upside of some catches.

But the more I think about it, the more I think it's safer to bench him for other options (Randle, Lewis and Gio, perhaps swapping one for Cunningham if Mason is out, but I don't think he will be). While I still believe CJ has the talent to earn his high ADP, facts are that he's dinged on a short week with an effective back running behind him. SNap counts were largely slanted in CJs favor last week, but you can't ignore Hillman's performance on a narrower opportunity set.

I think it's more probable that CJ starts, plays the game but isn't able to play at 100%. They may need more of a credible threat than CJ can provide dinged as he is, which leads me to think the splits lean more towards even than staying the same.

Hopefully CJ can overcome the injury over the next week+, but there just seems to be more probability in success looking to other options I may have.

To paraphrase a previous poster, I would rather watch him do well on my bench, than watch him drop a turd in my lineup. I figure it's a 50/50 chance either way and I would rather play it safe early in the season. I own CJ and Hillman, and will likely start Roddy in flex over both of them in a PPR. Ivory and Ingram in ahead of them as well.

If Hillman outplays him again this week, CJ's value will plummet.

CJ is playing the role Montee Ball; Hillman is playing the role of Hillman; Thompson is playing the role of CJ. We all saw this play last year.
FTFY

Hillman is straightline fast, but below average laterally and doesn't have good instincts for slipping hits. Those attributes combined with a smallish stature are why he doesn't last as a feature RB.

All of the above is assuming CJ has turf toe and tries to play with it. If healthy, CJ >>>>>>>>>>>>> Montee.

Weather reports showing high speed wind preceding a storm that is predicted to get to Arrowhead after the game.

But 25mph winds in the stadium already.

Expect a LOT of carries. Broncos will need both backs regardless of who gets more carries.

Agreed, but easy to lose sight of the fact that CJ Anderson has less than one half a season's worth (~7 starts?) of experience as a feature back himself. To me, he's still on the fence between bona-fide workhorse and, "Rememember that nice run of games that __________ had back in _____?"

Dumb question--but what about the viability of playing both CJ and Hillman today? Unless Denver is going to go into full on pass mode--is there a possibility that there is enough meat on the bone for the both of them today? I know there are some leagues with double flex spots--I play in two of them myself--and in one of them--I own both CJ and Hillman--and I'm really considering playing both.

Bad match up, one guy injured, questionable qb play on a short week? Why wouldn't you want to double your exposure to this game if you could?

One thing to remember Hillman got 35 of his yards in that 17 play 10 minute drive. Maybe the Ravens D has a little gassed. Think that was the drive CJ got hurt.

IIRC, someone looked back over a few years and found that players with a Q tag who actually play perform as well as players with no injury designation. The danger is that they don't suit up -- once they do you're in the clear, on average.

Would love it if someone could find this.

Majority of that came immediately after Suggs went off, too.
Exactly what I pointed out in real time and I got lambasted for making an excuse.
Problem is that none of this is true.

Kubiak explicitly addressed this in the presser. Reporter asked if Hillman got those carries because of CJA's injury. and Kubiak responded that Hillman earned those carries. It had nothing to do with CJA's injury.

Also, Hillman only had 2 carries on that drive after Sugg's injury.

Maybe worse later in the year...but Thursdays have typically ended with some sloppy lower scoringvgames haven't they?

Broncos online not playing well, I wouldn't think it smart at all to play both.

Kubiak is full of ####. He had 7 carries on that drive for 35 yards. So his 5 carries for 6 yards before CJ got hurt earned those carries?

CJ is playing the Montee Ball role. Hillman is playing the Hillman role and when he craps out again, CJ will come back and play the CJ role.
It seems like people have already forgotten that Hillman was a starter and lost his job to CJA who went on to be the #1 RB the rest of the season.

Edited: FWIW (FF Champs) Denver Broncos running back, CJ Anderson, will play on Thursday night despite a toe injury. But Denver coaches indicate Anderson will play on a snap count and will rotate with Ronnie Hillman. Analysis: Its not an ideal situation for Anderson owners considering he was likely your 1st running back taken in drafts. If you have Hillman, he may be the better play for Week 2.
