Spiller has an AC sprain. Minor. Very unlikely to play Week 4, Week 5 is a good shot. Very good result for Bills.

I seem to recall AC Spain's taken longer than that to heal, especially if catching the ball a lot (raising arms over head) like spiller does. I'll wait until I consult with our Dr.

No official word yet from the Bills. Still waiting. At least CJ Spiller himself thinks it's minor. Says it's a 2 day injury lol. He's not playing week 4, I think.https://mobile.twitter.com/Bills_Chick/status/250068415954423809?photo=1
I think he'll be out this week as well, but there have actually been a few rumors slipping out from Bills sources that have said a few days as well. Those could all be traced back to Spiller though so who knows. But how crazy would it be if both Spiller and Jackson end up suiting up for a big game against New England?

I guess it's now confirmed. Sprained AC joint.

News: CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports Bills running back C.J. Spiller has a sprained AC joint and not a separated shoulder. He will likely miss 1-2 weeks.

Analysis: Bills coach Chan Gailey said Sunday after Spiller got hurt that he didn't believe it was a long-term injury, but hinted Spiller probably wouldn't play Week 4 against the Patriots. La Canfora is also reporting fellow injured running back Fred Jackson (knee) is on track to return Week 4, but if Jackson and Spiller are both out, then Tashard Choice will pace the rushing attack. Fantasy owners should probably put in a waiver claim for Choice this week and track Jackson's progress. As for Spiller, he is looking doubtful, so look toward healthier alternatives for the upcoming scoring period.

Hmmmm? Could it be that the 2 day time table was right?"Bills coach Chan Gailey says C.J. Spiller's shoulder injury isn't "as bad as originally thought," and there's a chance he could be active for Week 4.Gailey allowed it was "unlikely" Spiller suits up against the Patriots, but it's notable that he's yet to be officially ruled out. How hard the Bills push Spiller could depend on how Fred Jackson (knee) looks in his return to practice. There's a lot of sorting out to do between now and Sunday in the Bills' backfield. For now, owners should expect to be without Spiller for at least one week."

Between him and Fred Jackson, the Bills have dodged two really big bullets.
No kidding. Bummer they'll likely be down to RB3 for the Pats, though.
If Spiller misses the game and we lose a close one, I'll be sad. But part of me figures that we're going to get stomped this week anyway, so maybe it's just as well that he's missing this one as opposed to a winnable game where his presence on the field might make a difference. Sorry if this makes me a pessimist, but I don't see how anybody who follows this team could be anything other than a pessimist given their track record over the past decade. The ancient Israelites spent less time in the wilderness than these guys.

We are a 3.5 point underdog without him. It is absolutely one of the worst games to miss.

Bills | C.J. Spiller not ruling out Week 4 Mon Sep 24, 07:31 PM

Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (shoulder) is not in a sling and said he has full range of motion in his injured shoulder. However, he's dealing with swelling and pain, but says there is still a chance he could play in Week 4.

More on AC joint sprains (which, contrary to Jason LaCanfora's comment, is the same thing as a separated shoulder) at the FBG Second Opinion blog.
"As with any sprain, there are grades of severity of AC joint injuries. Grade 1 injuries are relatively minor, and involve mild stretching and microtears of the ligament fibers. Grade 1 injuries are usually treated with ice, sling immobilization and anti-inflammatories and players are at low risk of missing snaps the following week."

Spiller needs to sit a week. I know, I know easy for me to say as FJax AND Spiller owner but for the long term prognosis, sit PLEASE?

So FJax is going to play this week and Spiller might as well. Sounds like two guys who know that if they have the stage to themselves, they can excel and maybe keep the other guy on the bench. Too bad it could very well be that both of them rush back to get on the field. This could be bad all the way around....

Or it could be two guys who had injuries that weren't as bad as everyone thought and who both want to get out there for a crucial game against a division opponent.

Yep.The way I see it is once they're both healthy, I think Spiller gets the carry edge, likely 60/40, maybe 55-45. That's enough opportunity for both to be considered starters. At that point, it will be about what each does with those carries.I only own Spiller right now, but as long as he gets around 15 carries, I'm good due to what I think he'll do with that number. I'd probably prefer that to him being overworked at 25 carries.

So is anyone picking up Choice or are you rolling with FJAX?
Own Fred and Spiller - if I had only one, I would addChoice but not wasting another spot for all three. If both Fred and Spiller do play, not sure who is more valuable. TD leagues I think Fred, yardage heavy Spiller.

My personal thought about Spiller is that he gets so many yards, that he even eclipses freddie in TD heavy leagues. Unless you are playing TD only, all health equal, I think Spiller out produces Jackson.

Spiller has scored tds in 6 straight games he played, granted Freddy hasnt been healthy in them, but Spillers TDs are of the long distance variety usually

News: Bills running back C.J. Spiller, who suffered a shoulder injury Week 3, said Wednesday he will play Week 4 against the Patriots if he feels like he can help the team. He will test the shoulder this week and see how it responds in drills. "You don't want to be on the sideline for these types of games," Spiller said. "Hopefully by (Thursday) we'll have a better understanding." Spiller was held out of practice Wednesday, but coach Chan Gailey said he is hopeful Spiller will practice by the end of the week.

Analysis: It's amazing Spiller even has an outside chance to play Week 4. He looked like he sustained a pretty serious injury Week 3 after watching him writhing in pain on the ground, but the team said his injury isn't as bad as initially thought and now he is talking about suiting up Sunday. Although, it is probably more likely he sits at least one week. Injured running back Fred Jackson (knee) might return Week 4 as well, so Fantasy owners need to keep tabs on the situation in Buffalo. If Jackson and Spiller are both active Sunday, then it could be a crowded backfield situation that could also feature Tashard Choice. As of now, Fantasy owners should plan to start healthier alternatives over Spiller.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk.com C.J. Spiller (shoulder) is "healing faster than expected," and could return to practice later this week.

Spiller was limited to pad-less side work in Wednesday's session, but it sounds like he could be ready for at least a limited practice as early as Thursday. It's excellent news for the Bills, but makes for a muddled fantasy situation with Fred Jackson (knee) expected to return against the Patriots. It's a situation to monitor closely over the next 48 hours.

If FJax is ready to roll, I would prefer Spiller sits this one out if he isn't 100%. This offense is so much more dangerous with CJ and if there's any chance of him making his injury worse, take a seat. This game is huge but there is still a ton of games left. And I'm a Spiller owner

Choice got claimed in my league this morning, but Fred has a history of great games versus the Pats. If Spiller goes, TC is a wasted roster spot.
I was wrestling with this very conundrum. I have a sure start in ADP, but my other RB's are Bradshaw/Wilson, Shonn Greene, and both FJax/Spiller. Bradshaw is going to play, but how much? Greene sucks. So I really need these guys, but I have decided not to add Choice. Brown is already gone. We have another WW window tomorrow. I need to see who's practicing and might have to pick up Choice. It's a salary cap league, so this will cost me some cash. I only have $1.3 million under the cap and TC would cost me about $400K. I don't want to burn that much on the guy but if I have no other starter, I might have to....

 Am I in the AC forum?

;)

But since you and your family take summer vacations in my beautiful peninsula, I'll break the rules with ya. Love FJax this week based on his past games versus the Pats. If Spiller can raise his arm comfortably by Friday, I think he's a decent flex in PPR. I wouldn't waste the cash on Choice. Ahmad is a warrior, and I think he takes his job right back, but I get the hesitation - Brown did look good against a very bad Carolina D.

They will sit him.he's the stud of the future. why risk further injury in a young player when you have an old horse(Jackson) or a very capable backup (choice) who can step in. It's a one game fill-in.

I know this is the CJ Spiller injury thread. But I think the news regarding FJax practice today is relevant. It doesn't sound like FJax is optimistic about his knee. Which could push Spiller to suit up this weekend in a huge game vs NE. Choice will probably rotate in.

Fred Jackson (knee) "wasn't overly pleased" with how he felt in his return to practice Wednesday.

"There were some things that I liked, but there's a lot of stuff that I've got to work on, too," Jackson said afterward. "It's a good thing we've got a week. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully, it will continue to get better." It sounds like Jackson was greeted by more soreness than anticipated. How he feels Thursday will likely be the key to whether he plays Sunday. With C.J. Spiller's (shoulder) status also up in the air, Tashard Choice shouldn't be dropped just yet

I actually took Jackson's comments to mean that he couldn't make the cuts he wanted to make more than any pain.

IMO, tomorrow will be the biggest day before practice even begins. If his knee is sore and swollen, he will be out this week. If it's not too bad, then they'll take things a little slower and he'll be a go this week.

As of pre-practice Thursday, the Bills website still considers C.J. Spiller (shoulder) a "long shot" for Sunday's game versus the Patriots.

"I'm just taking it day by day," Spiller said Thursday. "We'll see how it goes. The main thing we don't want to do is rush it. It's Week 4 and we've got 16-plus if we get to the postseason so we'll do day by day and see what Sunday holds." The Bills website considers Spiller "more likely to return" in Week 5 versus the 49ers.

Thanks for the input. That's what I was thinking. Our WW has come and gone and I used similar logic in not taking Choice. And I really wasn't looking for the AC advice. More like venting to semi strangers.

I'm rolling with FJAx and Bradshaw....
