Watching the game, thinking I've watched every browns game the past 12 years... The question is every single year is... What are the browns missing? They have Richardson... Which i think HAS to be their focal point in their offense in the future. Quarterbacks, Weeden just isn't a natural born leader. i really wish theyd sign a more mobile quarterback (Vick?) or draft one.

Receivers. Little may take a few years to learn from his mistakes (or hell be a COMPLETE bust) and

I liKe Benjamin. Cribbs needs to stick to special teams... So he can do his thing. And they need to beef the line up.

What do you think they need for their offense?

I don't think I've ever seen a collection of wide receivers with worse hands before. Take tonight's game for example. His receivers must have 5 or 6 drops. When your offense is struggling, every single one of those are drive killers. It's hard to get into a rhythm or gain confidence when you expect a slew of drops.

Time. Weeden will never be an all-pro, but he's serviceable. WR's are all young and wil grow/improve. Stud RB, young lineman. Decent Defense.

Be patient Browns fans...this team will turn the corner as early as next year.

Why browns? That's such an odd name for a team. What's the origin?
Named after original owner, Paul Brown.I think they need everything but a RB and LT (not sure about rest of O-line). Weeden has been decent at times this year but I'm not a believer. WRs are very unimpressive. For Richardson's sake, hope they get better on offense while he still has good years in him.ETA- Gordon and the kid from Miami look pretty good for rookie WRs. Little is talented but I've seen more drops from him than just about anybody else the last two weeks and I don't watch the Browns that much.

To spend more money and add receiving talent (WR & TE). Also, Weeden is pedestrian at best. I don't see much of an upswing in the next 1-2 seasons. How many passes can receivers drop in one game? 5 in this game so far. Little is a joke! He is the NFL's Mr. Drop pass poster boy!

Ditto. Browns have a great opportunity to be good with Richardson. They just need to get him some help. Defense is actually not bad.

More than anything else, the answer is experience.

There's talent there but the problem is that the entire passing game is extremely raw. With a year of experience under their belt Weeden, Little, Gordon and Cameron should be much better.

They have made questionable draft choices dating back to forever.

A 2nd on Gordon (not good).

Weeden was a mid round prospect by more than one draft expert. But due to QB supply and demand, he's a first round pick. The gaffe of not getting griffin was huge. If Griffin is a authentic NFL jersey, then Weeden is a cheap, inexpensive replica - that is the Browns right there, always getting the replicas.

Little's hands are well documented right now.

Benjamin is an undersized guy who can't really be counted on for full time snaps.

I don't like their offense at all, but it's never all because of the system. It's also an odd mishmash of players. They have a QB who can make the throws if he sits back in shotgun and even better if he has 3-4 receiver routes, but they have no receivers for this, insist on running the West Coast offense (under center). They make Weeden spend a crazy amount of time doing other things rather than take shotgun snap, quick read, good throw. He seems to have to run a playaction fake and deep drop before he looks downfield on every single play.

Meanwhile, they have a stud RB that they're not really sure how to use yet. I assumed that having Trent is a big reason they don't let Weeden in shotgun more, but when games are close they spend more time calling reverses and bubble screens to get the ball in the hands of guys like Cribbs and Benjamin who are both WRs who can't seem to play conventional WR so they require the offense to go out of there way to get them touches. The roster compilation seems to be completely random.

The receivers are just awful. I do think the play calling makes it worse, but ultimately you need to find a way to get open to complete the catch. It's not rocket sceience.

If it were me, I'd start trying to figure out how to develop a shotgun running game so that you can keep Weeden comfortable and mask your WR weakness without wasting Richardson.

A WR who an actually catch the ball.
:goodposting: It may seem overly obvious, but if I'm an opposing DC - there isn't anything that scares me even a little bit (bo pun intended...well...) other than Richardson. We're putting 8, maybe 9 in the box, we're run blitzing the gaps, we're crowding the line of scrimmage. Go ahead and try to hit one of your WRs deep with the group you got there and Weeden throwing it.

Wes Welker. He'd never choose Cleveland, but a reliable move the chains target to balance out the inexperience of the rest of the group.

I'm shocked at the Browns run:pass ratio...

Richardson is clearly the best thing about their offense and yet they seem incapable of calling two running plays in a row. And what does Ogbayanna provide on 3rd down?

I thought Weeden looked alright, for a "rookie" QB making his 4th start ever against Balt D on the road in the rain.

His WRs aint doing him any favors.

This. Weeden isn't going to be a NFL stud QB, but he could be very serviceable playing alongside an elite talent RB in Richardson. Little should have had over 100 yards receiving last night. Little has speed, is pretty good at running routes and can get open....if only he can catch the ball consistently. WRs dropping passes will affect a QB's psyche.CLE could use a big fast TE. On one play last night, the corner jumped a simple out route and was able to recover and make Weeden overthrow their slow TE. If that TE was say Hernandez, he would have been wide open and Weeden would have hit him on the sideline for a 20 yard play.

Not to pile on Little, but there was a point last night when Mayock sounded like he was scolding an eight-year old kid:

You. Have. To. Catch. The. Ball.

Lol @ this. It's sad that it's true

WR. The Browns have not had a decent WR since............

I cannot even remember the last good WR in Cleveland.

Can someone explain why the heck they didn't have Richardson on the field for the last play of the game? He's clearly the ONE guy you want on the field going for a touchdown at that spot of the field. It makes me sick knowing I'm about to watch another season of this.

I hope Haden comes back an balances out that D a little bit.

Besides the abysmal hands of Greg Little et al, I've been very frustrated with the play calling this season. Here is the typical Browns drive:

First and 10 - Short pass for no yards or a loss

Second and 12 - Handoff to Richardson up the middle for 4 yards

Third and 8 - Pass to Little who drops an easy catch

Fourth and 8 - Punt

Why not run on first down? Why not run on second down too? Heck, get yourself third and 2 and run again. Pat Shurmer is from the Andy Reid school of play calling, and it is absolutely driving me crazy. :wall:

I think Weeden needs some time to mature and it's been said already but they need someone who can catch the ball and get open. They have BY FAR the worst receiving corp in the league.

Mayock's generally terrible. But in this case his Captain Obvious routine was spot on. What we needed last night was Gruden so he could give Little a ridiculous nickname:

"I call him the Dropper. Cuz he's always droppin' the ball. Gotta make that catch, young man. Or your career in the National Football League. Will be over real quick."

VERY :goodposting: Their plan has been to just throw darts and force feed their system then see what fits and build around them, the problem being it'll take 5 years to get that developed. 3 years in and it looks like the defense is on its way but the offense is still way behind the curve. With the ownership change, they're out of time. I'm tired of the lack of urgency from these guys, so I welcome change.

WR that can catch.

I think TRich looks good, Weeden looks solid and their D is playing well. Look at the amount of drops their WR have been getting, it's awful and Weeden is still putting up respectable numbers for only being 4 games into his career.

I was generally impressed last night (surprisingly). I fully expected a blow-out, but I thought the Browns D held Rice in check for the most part. Boldin's third quarter drove me nuts. I think the front four played really well and put pressure on Flacco for a good part of the game. TRich is awesome and the silent G came in and did his job as the outlet and also blocking. Weeden is the man. Sorry to all those who think differently, but I have had enough with this carousel of QBs. A team can win the Super Bowl with Dilfer and Johnson, then a team can win one with Weeden (who I think will be better than both those guys). I also think Little, Benj and Gordon WILL be a good trio of WRs if the Browns (and fans) can give this offense time to get better together. I loved most of the play action because the Ravens were keying on TRich and thought Weeden made some really good reads (but still has room to improve).

So what do the Browns need? During the game they were talking about Newsome and the type of players he has drafted...with that in mind, I think they they need a undisputed leader(x2?) (and if it's not too much to ask them to be a top football player as well). They need a T.Brady, R.Lewis, ...someone who sets the tone every game; who leads in a way that the WRs are going to make that catch or that linebacker is going to pick the ball off in the endzone because if they don't they'll be held accountable and don't want to let this leader type person down; someone to say things aren't going the way we want right now and we're going to do something about it...then go out and do it. Someone who won't tolerate losing and won't let his team tolerate it either.

I don't know if this sums it up or not, but I think the Browns need some balls.

Go Browns!

Yep, and no chance that happens with the current coaching staff. Fix that then try to build team leaders around them. DQ can be that guy, so can Richardson - they can't do it all themselves though. They need direction from the top and these guys don't have it, they have guys scrambling trying to save their jobs by impressing the new owner.

Qb maturity.
And WR maturity and guard maturity and RB maturity. It is amazing how many rookies this team is starting. A few years this could be a pretty good team.
Depends how many of them are left after the new guys are brought in.
Who would you cut? With the new rookie scale it makes sense to stick longer with the guys you drafted.
Way too early for that. As it stands right now this is how I see these guysCornerstone - RichardsonStarters - Thomas, Mack, SchwartzEarning a role - BenjaminHas a chance to earn a starting job over the next 13 weeks - Weeden, Gordon, CameronNot developing as planned, needs to step it up - Little, PinkstonNot married to, adequate depth - Colt, Ogbonnaya, Massaquoi, Ryan Miller, Greco, Norwood, Alex Smith, ThadNeed to upgrade - Lauvao Cut - Watson, Cribbs, Maresic, Cousins, Hardesty, Jackson
