Closers, Closers in waiting, and Middle relief...... (1 Viewer)

The one (only) reason I enjoy my points league is you dont have to chase saves
I chase saves non stop in my total points league. In this case, a save and win both = 6 points. If I have an innings limit and can have someone average 6-7 points per inning pitched (closer) vs 2-3 (starter), I want as many of my innings eaten up by closers as possible.

I'd think Hanrahan is ready if Nathan completely falls apart and Joba blows his shot. Possible Hanrahan jumps Joba if he gets back soon enough. #proven

Joba's K-rate and effectiveness makes him borderline ownable in some leagues without the saves, I don't think you can say that about any other options (unless 2011 Al Al comes out of that pen).

Seems like it's gotta be pretty soon. Grabbing him today, unless I get outbid.
I need saves bad in a AL legg. Joba was already picked up so I went with Al just in case.
Yeah, no. He's not closing unless Nathan is actually dead and Joba has a beard attack.

Any other bright ideas?
Nathan will keep the job and then maybe hand it over to Chamberlain for a time, but then if he stinks I think Nathan would be right back in there. Hanrahan should be ready to go around the all-star break but I'd have to think it would take at least a month for him to be inserted as closer.

When you have a lot of closers do not trade them to fix other holes because then you will start to lose them.

Hector Rondon, down.

bellisario is so damn bad
Who would be next in line? Doesn't seem like many options with CWS.

Also, what are peoples thoughts on Addison Reed. He has looked pretty bad this year but doesn't have that many blown saves. Ziegler has looked much better.

I snagged Smith for the recently-deposed/nuked Jason Grilli and am pretty happy about it. Love the ratios/team/park/lack of competition.

You have Mike Redmond thinking Gregg is the 8th inning guy in Fla when Ramos has been great all year

Robin can't stop going to sorry-o despite giving up a run every time he toes the rubber

Collins - possibly the dumbest of them all using his closer in a tie game, in the 9th, while on the road

Amazing amounts of stupidity being displayed tonight

Petricka with his second save and he bailed out Bellsorrio. Webb can't throw a strike to save his life, Putnam is untested. Petricka must have some sort of chance to pick up some regular saves no?

I took a flyer on Petricka in TREauction yesterday. I've held Jones and Webb earlier but sometimes you have to keep casting your line in the same ####hole if you want to chase saves.

Was it? Mejia's good at keeping lefties in the park, bringing him for the 9th doesn't allow Alvarez or Davis to end the game against you, and they got an extra IP in the 10th out of him. And 4 K's in those two innings, mind you.

Granite, it precludes him from "closing" the game, but you also can't close a game you lose.

BTW, A's had Gregerson pitch the 8th on the road last night, and Doolittle up to pitch the 9th, even before Oakland scored at all.

Putnam pitched a four out save for the White Sox in spite of a ninth inning run. Petricka was warming up with the tying run in scoring position.

Bochy not committing on keeping Romo as closer. Casilla probably next in line.
Romo probably should have taken the contract he was offered.
Sabean is such a honk for his own guys, it'll probably only end up costing him a few mil. :lmao:

Brad Boxberger with a save for the Rays. Guy has had great peripherals all season. I've actually grabbed and dropped him a couple times, but now seems like a strong add.

I think it's mostly because they used Balfour and McGee on back-to-back days before today.
