"Cobra Kai" -- The Karate Kid Series sequel (1 Viewer)

Damn, guys- what's the rush?
Ironically, I got sucked into a 6 episode binge last night.

The show is good fun, but honestly if it wasn't for Johnny I probably would have stopped watching a season + ago.   His stuff is $$ and it more than enough to offset Kreese and the over-the-top teen battle royale fights that break out every other episode.  Looking like next season we are setting up for some movie 3 stuff.  Do we get Karate Bad Boy Mike Barnes' kid in the mix for the tourney too??

The scene with the little girl that Daniel saved, all grown up now, that was one of my favorites of this season and of the series.
My favorite part of this show is finding all of the original actors to reprise their roles even if they are no where near the business any more.  It makes the show feel "authentic" for lack of a better term.

It’s possible I flip-flopped it with another.  Binged it all and frankly they run together after awhile. Which did you enjoy the most?
The Facebook/laptop stuff and the scenes with Johnny and Daniel looking for Robby were hilarious.

Hashbrown me too.......its like a cross between karate kid and the becoming my parents progressive commercials.

This is nothing more than a rumor but I have seen some reports that the Cobra Kai producers have reached out to Hillary Swank to gauge her interest in reprising her role as Julie.

OK, Finished up season 3 last night.  Got a little cringy a few times, but overall awesome.

When they show Johnny in that white Jacket, I said to my wife if he gets sauce spilled on him, I am turning this off.  Then they showed sauce/pasta getting delivered to the tables and I thought,  oh no, please don't do it.  Then the waiter almost bumped into him and he was like, "Hey Jerk, watch it"  I laughed out loud.  Well done.

Journey's Open Arms playing when Johnny said goodbye to Ali was a nice touch.  Fit so well.

The fight scenes are a little too over the top, but I can live with it.

The Okinawa scenes were very well done, Daniel meeting the little girl again was a nice touch and I enjoyed the scenes with Chozen as well.  his like, "for your collection" when he gave him the scroll made me laugh.

Wrap up was done nicely with Johnny and Daniel joining forces which seemed to be coming.  Some background on Kreese was good.  I was fooled as well as I thought the pony-tail guy was Terry Silver.

Looking forward to season 4.

the movie was pretty bad but Swank was actually quite decent in it.   She was far more believable in her role than Mouser is as Sam, in terms of being athletic.
IMO, the key to Cobra Kai is nostalgia. And absolutely no one is nostalgic over the Next Karate Kid. It also features the worst final fight ever.

p.s. Sam’s fight in the Season 2 finale isn’t great, but it’s still 10x better than the Swank final fight.

Thought season three was great. Was probably the quickest binge watch I have ever had. At one point, paused things, figuring I would "save some for later" not realizing I was already into episode 10.

Have some specific thoughts, but will save until a few more have watched and we can post spoilers out in the open.

I thought I would hate that stuff when I saw in the previews he was going there, but I didn't.   Chozen does look a bit like Gilbert Gottfried now though.
I did a double take there. Could almost be a twin.

I did the same. Weird way to end I think but it's clear there's a season 4 on the way.

The kids fight scenes were a bit too much but in a decent way.

Hawk's redemption was completely not surprising, but still was nice to see. Only thing less surprising was Demetri finally getting some action.

I still think that he was let off the hook a little too easy.  He broke the dude's arm after he had a chance to let him off and in fact was begged to let him go.  If I am Dimitri there is no way I let him off that easy.  That is almost unforgivable.

I did the same thing (without the turning it off point) but they have done a great job throughout the series of reminding you what happened originally and bringing you up to the brink of a repeat only to change it up (Daniel with the rubbing of hands and then calling for the medic was another instance).

One very minor nitpick I have is the writers did not add in some simple or clever way to indicate the passing of time.  It felt like Miguel's spine much too quickly heeled and similar could be said about Dimitris arm.

I know he was just a side character but I missed Sting Ray this season.  His epic beat down of the kids while playing security guard during the school rumble was great :)

I hope he is written back in with Aisha in season 4.

Did the school fight happen at the end of the previous school year? So Miguel was in a coma over summer break, recovered in fall, and ready to fight by Christmas?

I have never seen The Next Karate Kid. I should put that in the queue.

She was very good in Million Dollar Baby. She was athletic, coordinated and looked like she could throw a legitimate punch.

It could be a good storyline with her arrival on the show, maybe spark some jealousy with Daniel over their shared relationship with Mr. Miyagi.

I watched that Netflix After Party show that had the cast on and Ralph Macchio said the writers view Karate Kid like their Star Wars. They're the very shallow Karate Kid equivalent of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni lol.

I don’t think realism is something the writers are overly concerned with, to be honest.

So in this day and age, why are the parents not calling the cops on Kreese?  For example, the fat kid that Kreese lets Hawk destroy.  He gets in the car after "class" and his parents are going to flip their ####, file a lawsuit and possibly go to the police.  Don't be a p+++y or not, the parents would be livid.  At least that's how most parents are these days.  However, if it was realistic it wouldn't be much of a show.  It's just one big thing that bothers me watching.  At least throw it in and explain it away instead of completely omitting these things.

There was the PTO/PTA scene at the school after the fight, but that was it.  The insane beatdowns continue with no charges ever involved.

Agreed, that feels like the correct time line.

I think some times months pass between certain episodes.
Yeah you have to just look beyond the time thing :)  The fight was definitely at the end of school, they said Miguel was in a coma for 2 weeks, and school started back, so it was a pretty short break.  Not a big deal but every time Miguel hit the ground immediately after surgery I just cringed.

Overall a very good season, probably my favorite of the 3.  I would rank them 3, 1, and 2.  Finally got what I was originally looking for after the end of season 1 with the last episode (won't say for spoilers).

Just finished the Dee Snider episode, come one how come they didn't at least show the groupies after the show celebrating with the make a wish kid??!!

Enjoying the season, hashbrown me2 still cracks me up...

"Hashbrown" is my favorite line from the show.  It came out of nowhere the first time Johnny used it and was spot on to his world.  I loved it more than I should have.  It was so good I am surprised the "don't become your parents" people haven't done something similar.

In the aftershow the said the fat kid lives with his epileptic grandfather who is half blind. So that explains wwhy his parents were not involved. It was in the summer so he didn't not show up to school drinking out of a straw and lastly they indicated the Kreese picked up cosmetic surgery on a 18 month tour in Honduras so it was assumed that Kreese was able to work on the fat kid throughout the middle of the night to make his appearance a bit less looking like he got got waffle stomped by 4 dudes.

I made that all up but come on man....a 16 year old gets 18 round house kicks to the face and shows up to school the next day with 1" band aid...instead of looking like the elephant man.

Suspension of belief...come from heart bshell27son

Some of the subtle, quick stuff is the best.  We'd do a 15 second RW just to catch them again.

The other one when Miguel still couldn't walk... "Stay right there...  heh, heh, stay right there".
When Johnny slaps the books out of that one kids hands and as he’s walking away, rolls his eyes at himself and says “Sorry kid. Old habit,”

I definitely need an Eagle Fang shirt

and Im a little embarrassed to say I noticed Peyton Lists upgrades as well. I asked my 13 year old and she said it’s just a push up bra. I’ll take newly retired word for it.

Definitely needed a music montage or two.

I am no expert on what miracles push up bras can perform but this was her in season 2.  That is an enormous difference imo from the watermelons she lugged around in season 3.

It was so cringe worthy watching her play.  She could barely run with the ball.  I guess the show does not believe in stunt doubles which is probably for the best.
They did for Kreese!!! LOL!

Anyway we binged this in 3 days. Could not stop watching. Season 3 was my favorite thus far. Not only was all the curtain calls from Karate Kid II great, the sheer saturday afternoon Kung Foo Theater campiness is simply awesome.

Easily one of my favorite/guilty pleasure shows in a long while.

What is not to love if you were a teenager in the 80’s when Karate Kid debuted in 1984 (I was 14).

Just flat out great fun, executed really well. Johnny and Daniel are having a blast on screen. And Johhny Lawrence’s character is the best. hands down, not even close.

Looking forward to Season 4 BIG TIME!!!
