"Cobra Kai" -- The Karate Kid Series sequel (3 Viewers)

By the way, I read all the reactions in here before booting up the second installment of this final season, and I’m glad I did. My expectations were so low that I came away surprised that I was moderately entertained. Thought the new baddies were fun, if cartoonish, and there were still a few great Johnny Lawrence moments (including his suggestion to shorten the plane flight).
But how did you feel about the beach running

I think you can clock her 40 time with a sun dial.

I am a huge Buffy fan.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has limited athletic ability. But because she is shaped a certain way, her stunt double made her look athletic since they could find athletic stunt doubles with a similar build.

With Mary’s build, they really can’t find even a stunt double to make her look any better because no female with that body type is typically athletic, at least in the most basic ways needed for a martial arts show.

Yeah it’s mindless fun. And it has reached its end here soon.

It was a pleasant surprise and then took on a life of it’s own.

A fun nostalgic mindless ride.

Johnny Lawrence ruled from beginning to end.

I am all in!! lol

At least the kid can lift his leg to kick :)

From what I have read this is all set in the same universe, post Cobra Kai but does not appear to have any Cobra Kai actors in it so far besides Macchio.

uhhhhhhhhh WTF? They are combining the Jackie Chan Karate Kid with the originals???

KARATE KID: LEGENDS - Official Trailer (HD)
Looks good if you ask me.
Yeah it kind of does.

Interesting timing, does Cobra Kai feed into it?
Was Chan's version that good that they needed to combine the two?
Chans flick was damn good IMO. But it was Kung Fu not Karate.

The title was very odd because of this but it was a specific choice by the creators of the movie as it was set in China where Kung Fu is far more prevalent than Karate as a martial art form.

Yeah, the whole movie, the Jackie Chan character was referring to kung fu as what he was teaching him. I always thought there was an easy way to fix it. Just have Jaden Smith using karate early in the movie and all the other kids making fun of him, calling him the “karate kid” and it becoming his unwanted nickname. Problem solved.

I guess this fits here....My son went to GalaxyCon in Columbus a couple of weeks ago. He took his black Cobra Kai tshirt and got autographs and pics with Miguel, Hawk, Torrie and Sensei Kreese. He was thrilled. Since he had to go to each one individually, he played each one trying to get a better quote as he went. The best was Torrie (Peyton List) wrote "Kid Peak, I'm coming for you *****!" :lmao: He said he got to talk to her the longest since there was no one in line for her at the time. Said Kreese stayed in character the entire time and was very intimidating.

He has some room left around one shoulder, so he's hoping to get Zabka or other actors - whoever comes around this way again.

If the actors play it up. The unfortunate part is sometimes they are just douchenozzles and ruins the whole thing.

Zabka does the convention rounds. I saw him in Boston or Rhode Island last year (I forget which one).

Very true. His friend ran into this scenario with a voice actor. He was very excited to meet him only to find out it wasn't worth his time.

Sounds like the Cobra Kai cast (at least the kids) were all pretty normal/down to earth and fun - which just makes that experience so much better.

I would have to think it would get old pretty fast for the actors. I am sure they get the same jokes/comments/questions over and over and over. It would get annoying pretty fast. So the ones that enjoy it and have fun with it are really to be appreciated. I couldn't imagine having to deal with the public like that.

You definitely need the right mind set as an actor. But it can be rewarding at times as well.

Here were two that stuck out to me:

1) During a Star Trek TNG panel that Gates Mcfadden (Dr Crusher) was a part of, a 20 something year old girl got to the microphone to ask her question but she only had a statement, not a question. She said she watched TNG when she was a kid and that Dr Crusher made her want to become a doctor, of which she had just completed her residency and drove 7 hours to the convention just to tell her in person. Gates almost started to cry. It was very cool.

2) During a Marvel panel in which Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) was a part of, a teen-aged girl got to the mike and told a sad story about how she was about to kill herself (she did not say this specifically but every one understood what she was alluding to) but then before she did it she ended up watching a movie in which Stan was in that convinced her to get some help. Everyone was in shock but Stan handled it great, jumped out of his chair, ran down the isle and hugged the girl tightly. It got quite dusty in the room :)

Show up in a shower curtain costume and they will come to you - in bunches.

Huh, hard disagree here. I think the decision to age down the kids while making them more evil was a bad one.

All because Daniel's mom had to be selfish and move him in the middle of high school from New Jersey to SoCal so she could wait on tables at a Chinese Restaurant located across the street from a group of privileged bullies that want to tear her son apart the minute they land. His life would have been so much easier had he just stayed in Jersey

-Macchio is now a ripe 63 years old, shouldn't he be about ready to play Mr Miyagi in a movie reboot? Yes he was like 22 in The Karate Kid

The Rocky training scenes were fun - 1 day until fight and they'd be tuckered out for the ~60 year olds. Zabka still kicks pretty high for the age. Oh to be the 'take clapperboard' for the scenes. LOL
Good ending and well played out. Less cheese than normal and that is just fine. Most importantly = re-watchable series for the chuckles in 10+ years.

Still wanted to see a Hilary Swank cameo. But alas it was not to be.

Posted in the streaming thread. I really enjoyed the last five episodes and spoiler alert. I really thought the cream kick was coming out

We enjoyed these last few episodes, as well as the majority of the series. Some cool fight scenes, some predictability. Fitting ends for some of the characters.
First episode had a very dramatic feel, then it got fun.

Could definitely see the tie coming. Wasn't sure how they'd do the tie breaker though. And also, fitting ending as it is called COBRA KAI

Anyone else notice how little we saw of the younger Larusso? I think he was in one seen in the penultimate ep then had a line in the final and that's it. :lmao:

The Tooth Fairy

Agree with all of this, very satisfying last few episodes, they did a good job tying up storylines and still paying homage to the characters. The Miyagi stuff was wild and Zabka has some acting chops. Loved that they finished with him and Cobra Kai, it's really his story. I also noticed the lack of Larusso's son, kinda odd. Great start, great finish, some detours in between but a ton of fun!

His son was a little ****…...not missed at all.

I thought the ending was solid. More Johnny being Johnny but also the growth Johnny realized in applying the Cobra Kai mantra.

All in all a solid show and one I probably shoulda had on my top 70 list

Sure it tailed off a bit, but it's just a fun show. First season was great.

On a side note. Just bad parenting. If my child got into a karate brawl everytime they left the house the hammer would fall on them.

And who was the real estate agent at the end?
'Little Stevie' from S6 Ep 2 when Johnny and Chosen were looking for houses. Has about 5 minutes of show time and owns the house Johnny wants (and gets at the end of the show).
- Middle schooler that used to moonwalk to class that Johnny didn't know but thought he might have kicked his ***. Knew of Johnny, the champion in high school.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2012635/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t100 (13 second mark on his video under his name to see a few moments from that episode)

Totally agree and glad he was limited with screen time. That's good writing.

Super cheesy and super fun. Nice cherry on top for the end of the series.

Although the ending for Silver and Kreese seemed overly dramatic.

Yeah and not a word about it ….it’s like they were vapor.

Glad it’s over…went two seasons too long but cheesy as heck fun.

My sentiments exactly - it kind of got more and more preposterous as the seasons went on but always was a fun watch. Which is what it always was supposed to be.

Preposterous is an understatement.
'Yeah, this is a kids tournament, but I want you to cripple the kid you're fighting. Remember, he had a broken spine, if you hit in the right spot you'll paralyze him again'.

I don’t know about you, but my whole town and family center their entire lives around kids’ karate.
