-A lot of times these stories never come into fruition or are overly exaggerated
Coffee shop where I typically just buy their bagged coffee and make it at home, the barista there told me about this and I kind of chuckled and thought no way
But now I read this story and think he might know what he was talking about
As a consumer and lover of coffee, I wonder if there is anything you can do to get ahead of this
How long can coffee last? What happens to coffee beans 6-12 months later?
I guess if consumers actually stopped drinking it then the prices would fall, like a "gas" out? Fat chance that's gonna happen

-What impact if any will this have on your coffee consumption in '25?

Or another time in the morning that was suggested was around 10am vs 6-7am and that should carry you thru the afternoon without falling asleep

-I enjoy filling up my Buc-ees coffee mug and go for an early stroll around the block, no more than 20-30 minutes just to get the blood moving

Obviously they are pointing at retail prices or the "Starbucks" cost of a cup of coffee
Seems easy that a big cup of their non traditional coffee with all the fixings and whip cream and extra shot of espresso, those types I could see rising to over $10
What does one of these frapmapslapuccinos with xtra shots and all kinds of sugar, what do they typically run?
I make most of the coffee I drink at home. Right now I have 5-6 open bags of coffee around my moccamaster, I like some variety
My current favs have been coming from "Sweetwater Organic Coffee" and I get it at SProuts for around $15/lb. "Brown Sugar" and Good Morning Gainesville" are the ones I grab

I have to pour in a couple spoonfuls of organic half n half but I never like sugar in my morning coffee

You could probably cut your coffee expenses in half buying ground coffee and a device to brew the coffee yourself. It’s super simple, doesn’t take much longer than a k-cup and will give you a better tasting coffee. Just one way to maybe combat price hikes. And if you like the routine of it, it’s kind of nice. I made the switch maybe 5 years ago and never looked back.

My wife bought 4 containers of 48oz Folgers at Costco for 9.95 each on sale a couple weeks ago.

We go through one every 6 weeks or so. That should take us into May-June.

I am not a coffee snob, can handle anything fresh brewed.

I need to do something more, love my moccamaster. I also know that it's just step-1 into a better cup of coffee without leaving the house.
I think we were saying on the board that the avg cup at your house is around 50 cents a pour these days depending on the beans you buy.
I enjoy Sprouts house blends or their house brand which can sometimes run about $8/lb and that cuts the cost a lot. Some of the ones I buy and I'm sure others, $18-$22/lb easily
Jupiter/Tequesta are home to Oceana Coffee, they also are sold in Whole Foods all over Florida, not sure Nationwide. They charge about $20 for a 12 oz bag...good local coffee but pricey
I do like to visit their little roasting shop which doesn't have a lounge to hang out in like their other location but they do all the roasting there, the smell is intoxicating when I grab a. cup/bag

Paradeco Coffee Roasters in St Pete is one of the funkiest coffee houses in Florida, nothing like what you see on the West Coast
Downtown, very bright with a lot of glass to see in and out of this place and some of the best coffee I have ever had, just their basics are incredible
They also make an "old fashioned" that will knock your socks off, no alcohol but it looks like the drink it's named after. Cold brew concoction that goes perfect in the Florida heat

This is what I do in a way. I like my coffee stronger than most (for those that are familiar think AA strength). I have a Keurig, but I bought one of those custom cups so you can brew a whole pot. I buy Folgers strong, fill that cup up and brew a 16 oz cup with my mug. Don't use any k-cups

Those should be banned or heavily taxed, what a waste of plastic.


K-cups cost more than regular drip, they are worse for the environment, and they taste worse.

It is a rare lose-lose-lose situation.

No need to wait for a pot to brew, which then seemingly either runs out when I want another cup or I pour 1/3 of it down the drain the next morning.

That said I do have a chemex which makes a great cup or two of coffee. In retirement, with time not being an issue in the morning, I can see having that be part of the routine.

I go to a local roaster and have them grind a pound of beans for me. Lasts about 10 days for like $15. One cup for each of us comes out to 75 cents a cup. Worth it!

Re this article It has to be remembered that the Australian dollar is worth about $1.61 US.
So comparimg the US would have to get to $7.50 a cup

It also has to be advised that Australians dont like chain coffee like Starbucks.
They are extremely fussy about that and will pay more to get from a local independent barista who makes it the way they like

I've read similar articles about holding off on my coffee consumption until late morning. Not a chance in hell. Those two cups shortly after waking give me reason to live

Good stuff but I just wanted to address some of this and I really appreciate you promoting reusable K-cups, that's a positive for the environment
In the Moccamaster, whatever might be left over stays in that pot until the mid-late afternoon, in fact since we live in FLorida, many times I keep it in there overnight
Next morning, grab a big cube like you might use for an adult beverage and pour the leftover coffee which I make fairly strong to start with and we have a terrific iced coffee to guzzle down

May be a local thing, but watch the ad. Once very 2-3 months it drops to $30, comes out to $0.25 per cup. Like you, it could triple, and it won't change a thing for me - one black coffee in the kuerig then I go. It isn't hard to not spend that much cash on coffee.

I brew about 30 ounces everything morning and drink about 25 and am done by 8am or 9am and then I’m done for the day.

A month or two after the roast date is optimal. When you get towards 6 months you have to adjust your grind.
