RB Brashard Smith, KC (1 Viewer)

Maybe the best pass catcher in the entire class. He's 5'10 196lbs. Not too many years ago people scoffed at RBs under 200lbs, but the position is changing (see James Cook 5'11" 190lbs). Smith had 235 rushes for 1,332 yards and 14 TDs, with 5.7 avg. He had 39 receptions for 327 yards and 4 TDs, with 8.4 avg. He used to play WR, but transitioned well to RB. Could be a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Tyrone Tracy proved that the WR to RB transition can be beneficial in FF production. For two years I have undervalued Achane because of his size.

An under the radar name to keep an eye on this weekend is #SMU RB Brashard Smith in the ACC Championship Game.

The Miami transfer is having a breakout year (1,157-14 TDs) since being converted from WR prior to the season.

Lots of Tony Pollard vibes from Smith. Really good player.

Great comp. #SMU RB Brashard Smith is the definition of versatility + burst. Good test vs. the defense of Clemson.

Love him for same of the same reason I loved Irving…he’ll be drafted in the 3rd by me……

One to watch after only 1 season as a RB starter. His progression from the start to the end of the season with BMU was excellent in my opinion.

If he continues to improve, he will be a day 2 or 3 draft steal. He's going to see the field early on regardless of who takes him just for his receiving and return skills.

of course Andy Reid just got one of the best receiving RBs in the class who doubles as a special teams returning ace

RB Brashard Smith:

#1 in class 25% target rate on his routes

#2 in class 1.68 yards per route run

#1 in class with 1,317 return yards

4.39 40-yard dash

Brashard Smith was drafted in round 7 pick 228 in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 7.21 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 588 out of 2106 RB from 1987 to 2025.

Certainly a great burst in highlights, along with some expansive receiver skill. Interesting fit here for sure. Andy find his new McKinnon?
Do you see any long term fantasy relevance? His profile doesn’t seem to show that to me and a McKinnon comparison isn’t exactly a glowing one for long term fantasy success as a RB. He just looks too small to me. People will shout Achane, but I still have my doubts about him long term.

I do not think he is a “carry the load” type player, but I absolutely see him being used in similar fashion in the pass game. He made some really nice down the field plays and is a joystick with the ball in his hands. Not someone I am grabbing, but someone I will keep an eye on.

He weighs ten pounds more than Achane. Same weight as Gibbs and Kyren Williams. And he's a rookie, who just converted to RB last year, and coming from a smaller program (they normally don't have the same level of staffing with regards to nutritionists/weight training). I'd be shocked if he isn't putting weight on his frame, there's certainly room for it. Might not have time to throw 10 lbs on between now and September, but it's not something I'm worried about. And +10 lbs puts him 5'10 210lb; same weight as about half of the top 20 rbs.

Considering he's basically free, a waiver wire pick up in redraft; and not too far off of that same price in dynasty rookie drafts (mid 4th round earliest I've seen him go and it was to myself in 2 leagues, so who knows how much further he'd have fallen) I'm not sweating the size thing in the slightest. I'm barely expecting him to reach 50% touches by end of season and would consider that a huge win for 7th round of the NFL draft RB.

The fact this guy is even a blip on the radar is already a win. Hopefully he entrenches himself as a top special teams guy to secure his roster spot and game day active status so he's within eye line of Reid should something happen to Pacheco.

This is an excellent point. I like the McKinnon comp, in the sense that he brings that type of skillset to an offense that has a void there* and knows how to use such a back. Unlike McKinnon (or Perine), however, Smith lacks that veteran leadership and reliability in pass pro. He may have to cut his teeth on ST, but Hunt is on the wrong side of 30, Pacheco is coming off an injury and doesn't seem entrenched as the Chiefs' starter, and the RB depth in KC is definitely not insurmountable.

*Edit to add: I had forgotten that the Chiefs added Elijah Mitchell this off-season. Mitchell (if he can stay healthy) may be a serious impediment to Smith's path to playing time.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid on Brashard Smith: "He's a good receiver and route runner."

Mentions this is a hard portion of the offseason for RBs and LBs.

Brashard Smith

“[hauled] in a deep pass down the sideline delivered by starting QB Patrick Mahomes. No. 15 put enough air on the ball for Smith to run underneath on a wheel route and haul it in for a monster gain.”

Smith could be the passing down back for this offense out of the gate if he keeps this up.

Think Jerick McKinnon with MORE upside

I have never ended up with a player in every single dynasty draft until Smith. 9 for 9 this year and felt I only reached once (2nd place this year was Higgins at 4 drafts and Milroe/Harvey on 3... did pick up Arian Smith in 6 leagues off WW).

I think the KC offense evolves once Kelce retires to more 3 WR sets and Smith being used like McKinnon/Keaton Mitchell... unless he bulks up and can run between the tackles and pass protect
