He spent the entirety of Super Bowl 52 gushing over Tom Brady and complaining about catch/no catch rulings. It was unbearable. If I want to rewatch my team’s one SB win, I have to find a different audio source.

I've always liked him.
He does go over the top on praise a bit and I roll my eyes, but he knows football and is well spoken.
Broadcasters are easy to take shots at.

I think he does a great job. The nature of it leads them to glaze everyone. I don’t prefer it and wish they wouldn’t, but they aren’t there to make me happy.

There is no need for all the color guys to comment after each play and keep rambling on. Romo and CC talk too so much that you just tune them out after awhile.

I almost had to turn the sound off last night. Hearing Tirico calling the plays is enjoyable, then having to listen to Collingsworth ramble on until the next snap is pure torture.
Tirico, "Gibbs up the middle for a 3 yard gain, second and 7 for Detroit"
CC "Well Gibbs got the ball from Goff and saw big Chris Jones standing there and said no way I am going at this monster and cut it to the backside, now if the rookie guard from Georgia Tate Rutledge had chipped Jones there might have been a yard or two more, speaking of Rutledge I know the kids dad..great guy, great family, loves to hunt and fish and his Georgia Bulldogs, speaking of the Georgia Bulldogs ran into Kirby Smart at golf outing last week..blah..blah..blah"

Same with Romo. When both these guys first started they were just thrilled to be doing it. Excited. Their tone was blissful and reactionary with bits of good info. Now it feels like a horribly scripted movie. Just bad.

Romo was horrible from the beginning. I thought or hoped he would settle down over time and that I wouldn't have to feel like I have to get up and move from a barstool every time I hear their scratchy voices telling endless stories.
But no, there is just no stopping them and they think they are crushing it, which only makes the blathering worse. I thought the mute button was made for commercials, nope.

I think Collinsworth would propose to Stafford. For real. Like if it was just the two of them on a faraway beach, Chris would get down on a knee for Mathew. Which is fantastic, btw, good for him.

Let's all zone in on "scripted" because it's a word I really have turned a blind eye to in the booth, i usually just rip them for making stupid comments but lately I have started to hear it more
Tirico should be nominated for one of the worst offenders, he knew nothing about the Bucs back field so he made it up and when White took the field he said he was gonna be the lead back and carry the load for the Bucs except that Sean Tucker jogged out on the very next play and he seemed to be the RB1 tonight even though the Bucs didn't do much with their RBs
I never want to believe or think about the games being rigged or players doing similar things like what has happened in the NBA and MLB recently
But I'm starting to have some concerns about the announcers seeming hell bent to stick with the narrative they came in with rather than just calling the game as it is happening in real time

Usually Troy, CC, there's more but they don't shut up about it. "Yeah, we met with the team this week and took a shower with everyone and they just can't say enough good things about blah blah blah"
That's usually when Collinsworthless will praise some player about 2-3 seconds before they turn the ball over
They tell the audience they met everyone and they told them what they were gonna do...
If I were an NFL head coach, i wouldn't allow for too much access and just for fun I'd give them plays we will never call in the game
What irked me a bit was that that on one play Collingsworth was praising Diaby for his disruption and being in the backfield every play. The next play he zones in on Vea saying he is the only guy doing anything and really needs some of the other guys to step up. So which is it? Just totally contradictory from one play to the next. That happens a lot.

I have no problem with Collinsworth as an announcer but the whole production of SNF I'm not big on.
Basically they have their production meetings and decide ahead of time what will be their talking points and which player(s) they are going to fawn over all night. Would rather they let things come to them a little more organically.

The ideal (alone) football watching is on my laptop while working and checking my ff scores. Pause the game- work for 5-10 minutes and then buzz through the commercials- watch one play, fast forward 15, 15. Play. 15, 15, play, 15, 15 play, injury, skip commercials, find out how hurt he is, play, 15, 15, penalty, 15, play, 15, 15 timeout, pause. Back to work for 5-10 minutes. I get a lot of stuff done during the games. I watch live for less than half the game. Even then, I let the sound run and let the mindless blather queue me into when to put the game back up.
Most of the announcers are just occupying space which is- as they say- the last skill to erode.
Playoffs and while watching with friends/ relatives is a different story. I find them very repetitive and will get pretty peeved if I perceive that they're rooting against my team. They bring almost nothing to my experience. I will say that when you're new-ish to the sport, they add a ton and are pretty important.

First. It's not the cool thing, it's reality as a fan of the game.
Second, you definitely had me that Collingsworth is a former player, but then you lost me when you said "add a great deal...", "or extremely skilled play-by-play announcers"...neither of which Collingsworth is. For that matter, Aikman, Brady and Romo are technically color-commentators, but are infinitely more skilled than Collingsworth who simply loves to hear himself ramble on and on. He never educates on why something is may happen or did happen, he just jokes around with Tirico about having breakfast or lunch with this player or that in their weekly meetings. And it's too, he focuses on two or three subject areas and rambles on about that all game.
I definitely think that Aikman, Romo and Brady know the technical side of the game very well and can explain it so that the layperson understands it and it is educational. At least for me. I enjoy all three. Moose Johnson also does very well. Brady had a rough start, but he's doing very well this season. Collingsworth can't hold a candle to any of these guys. Total blowhard
