Colt McCoy (1 Viewer)

amnesiac

beer is good
didn't get to see the game, but i heard part of it on the radio, and it sounded like he did OK.

for those of you that watched the game, how did he look?

Looked ok, particularly when you consider he's a rookie starting his first game on the road against Pittsburgh.

Yeah, he didn't look too bad. The handcuffs were on but he was pretty poised, all things considered. Even with Harrison earning some head-hunting fines (I assume) he wasn't shaky. It had to be encouraging for Browns fans despite the loss.

He looked good, but I wouldnt exactly be running to the waiver wire for him. Id say for fantasy purposes he's still a QB3

Had happy feet a little bit in the pocket but he improvised well and didn't embarrass himself by any means. I always liked him at Texas, I think he will be a good NFL quarterback in time.

he looked fantastic considering the circumstances. that said, cleveland has a pretty good oline and gave him time to make plays and find open catchers.

I was impressed with McCoy today, no doubt. Not a fantasy option this year but if today's game is any indication, he has a chance to be a decent QB for Cleveland.

If I'm a Cleveland fan I want him starting from here on out. Let him learn now instead of sitting on the sidelines. Can any Browns fan say that Wallace or Jake D can lead them to a playoff spot anytime soon? I doubt it. McCoy played alot better than what I expected out of him.

Also they showed his family more than once during the game and his sister or gf/wife needed some more screen time. Smoking.

 It would be nice if he had a decent WR to throw to.

is he pretty much a lock to be the QB of the now and more importantly future of the Browns?

for Dynasty league purposes ....

 There's no doubt he should be the starter from here on out. I might even consider cutting Delhomme (the human turnover machine). It would be nice if he had at least one playmaker at the WR position though. There have to be a few guys on the waiver wire at least as capable as what they Browns are putting out there right now.

If they leave McCoy as the starter then he will become shell-shocked within 5 games and it will destroy any hope of him becoming a viable player in the NFL. Better to let Wallace take the heat this season and then re-group for 2011 with a better O-line.

Fine, "better receivers", "better running backs", whatever you want to call it. Either way, this is a lost season for the Browns and it will only HURT McCoy's development to put him out there right now.Besides, it was just 1 game. Zip your pants up.

Just like you I didnt watch any of this game. :football: But the Brown's OL is good, Hillis is good, the D is a bit underrated. If it wasnt for Jake Delhomme theres a very real chance this team would have at least 3 wins right now. If he can play about as well as Wallace then they should put him out there. The receivers are bad but Hillis and the TEs can still catch.

well, their best recievers got knocked out by harrisons helmet. in general, steelers get away with that bc its hard nosed tough football. if other teams do it, its a cheap shot. lol nfl.

I hate this thinking. Does Sam Bradford look "shellshocked"? He's playing behind a much worse O-line with worse WRs. Only thing he has going for him is a great RB. The guy either has it or he doesn't, might as well throw him out there and find out.

Was impressed. Was expecting similar #s to Todd Collins last week
i think most people were. that's why i'm interested in some opinions in how he looked out there.i honestly wasn't very excited about him when they drafted him, but now i'm wondering if he may develop into something over time.and you can put me in the camp that thinks they should let him play the rest of this year. let him get some experience as long as he's not completely stinking up the joint.

I thought he did OK for his first start. He had some happy feet and really didn't look down field all that much (training wheels or inexperience). He was hurried and hit a lot, but he seemed to come out of it no worse for the wear.

IMO, the Brownies have something there. He's not Otto Graham, but he's closer to a Brian Sipe FWIW.

Wallace is a much better QB right now, but Colt showed me a lot more than I expected. He left Massaquoi out to dry on the play that knocked him out and showed his inability to read defenses on several occasions, but he held his own in the pocket, stood strong under pressure, and was decisive in his decision making, even when it wasn't the right one - none of which I expected.Jake can rot in bench purgatory regardless of his ankle for the rest of the season - let Colt work out the kinks now, throw Seneca back in there when he's ready with Colt in reserve and go into 2011 with the same plan (and AJ Green split out wide).

Even the best has shown inability at times to read LeBeau's defenses. Colt did well and earned another start, whether Wallace and Jake are healthy or not.

I thought he did excellent given the context. Not a tougher spot to go into for a young QB than PIT on the road. He looked calm and definitely did not look like the game was too big and fast for him. I'd be very encouraged if I were a Browns fan. (Or at least as encouraged as you can get after 1 good showing).

When was the last time a true rookie passed for 281-1-2 in his very first game?

edit: answering my own question: Ryan Fitzpatrick, 2005. Before that it was Peyton Manning in 1998.

I remember that game, they were playing the 1-11 Texans or something who were up 24-3. Fitzpatrick came in relief for Jaime Martin and inexplicably threw for 3 td's to win the game 33-27. That was when people starting suspecting the Texans were throwing games to get the #1 pick and draft Reggie Bush. Good times.

Their best receivers have been Watson, Stuckey and Evan Moore. None of them were knocked out by Harrison's helmet.

Actually, he didn't. Link

...and kris brown missing 2 or 3 chip shot fgs down the stretch too. still seems fishy

McCoy impressed me. Tough spot to make your first start. He looked a little rattled in the pocket a couple of times but overall made good decisions and good throws.

He won't have a tougher start this year, so it was a really good showing. If he can be respectable in that environment, he has a chance to build some confidence in 2010. I was impressed he didn't melt down.

I hate this thinking. Does Sam Bradford look "shellshocked"?
Bradford >>>> McCoy. The best players are capable of making progress in tough situations.
And what exactly do you base this comment on? I see them comparable in every single aspect from college stats to measurables to career situations.
While they aren't as far apart as Joe probably thinks, they are very much not comparable in all of those aspects. McCoy is thinner and shorter than ideal, and doesn't have the arm that Bradford has. That said, it doesn't mean he can't be a great QB in the NFL. It just means he will have to work harder to accomplish it.

McCoy is smaller and slighter and doesn't have the arm that Bradford has but one thing that stood out to me in the game was the armstrength that Colt displayed, it was much better than I was lead to believe that he possessed.McCoy threw and completed a dozen passes for 10 yards or longer. Six of them covered 20 yards or more.

My understanding was that McCoy came in with a reputation of being a high-completion QB with a career average up over 70% and I noticed that he just wasn't getting balls out to recievers but he was placing the ball and spinnning it into tight corners.

That is what I was looking for but the way he was looking downfield and completing those mid-to-long throws really impressed me because I wasn't expecting that from Colt.

I don't care if Colt is like Bradford or isn't like Bradford.

I look at Colt McCoy in terms of what Colt McCoy brings to the table.

Who gives a rats pitutie about Sammy Bradford?

He has nothing to do with what Colt McCoy brings to the table and from what I saw, Colt shows real promise.

So any word on if he's starting again this week?
It's looking like it, although Mangini has not said, "Yes, McCoy is starting." One thing that surprised me last week was Mangini naming McCoy the starter so early in the week. Usually, Mangini will play head games with his injury list and make the opposing team guess. He didn't do that last week, which I found a tad bit strange.

Like comparing any two great college QBs if you're going to compare their college stats and project that into the pros. Based on performance, he could have gone 1 or 2 with Bradford-absolutely. Tebow could have been mixed in there too. Those are three special college QBs.We're not breaking down the tape and looking through the scouts' microscope. I think we're going to find they were too critical of McCoy.

well saidI wonder if he and Bradford both thought their college team was better than their NFL team during their first start.

McCoy was vastly underrated coming out. There's not one thing I don't like about him. He's not Bradford, but nobody is.

Cleveland got a steal, IMO.
